I guess a review of the year is in order.
I should've written down some aims and goals for the year when I started this diary but never got round to it. Will do it this year for sure.
They were probably along the lines of a) not going broke/survival, b) 20k profit for the year - that seemed realistic for my first year c) have fun. d) increase my roll so I can play higher in 2012.
Obviously I'm over the moon at how it's gone overall. I've ticked all those boxes, I've made almost 3x what I aimed to, I've had the sickest time, been on some sick trips, I'm super comfortable with my roll atm. I've been very lucky.
I can't believe 6 months ago I was grinding the 50/1 underrolled with 3k to my name. How incredibly lucky that Monte Carlo was.
I think I can honestly say I've ran pretty bad in cash games over the year. But I've ran like Usain Bolt on speed in 1k donkaments and if you're gonna run good in one aspect of poker- that's a good place to start!
So yeh I think it goes without saying I'm ridic pleased with how 2011 has gone. More of the same next year please!

My top 3 hands of the year (in no particular order)
1) Stacking Big Mike.
Don't ask me to explain why, but I decided it'd be a good idea to get in £1k on a flop of AA4 with AJ vs Big Mike. Obviously he had A4. It was at the end of a brutal session, which was at the end of a really brutal week. I binked the Jack ball on the turn to suck out and finally stack the man who's impossible to stack. Never been done before or since. I can't remember ever being happier at winning a pot, seriously!
2) Winning monster flip vs Stuart Fox 3 handed in the Monte Carlo
Perrins opens, Stuart shoves or 3bets I don't remember. I find AK in the big blind and reshove. Stuart has TT and this is a huge pot, for 4m out of the 7m chips in play. The winner goes into heads up as the chip leader. I bricked the flop but binked the K on the turn. I remember staying totally still and motionless until the river bricked off where I had to let out a smile / sigh of relief as that pot was the difference between a really nice 25k payday and a life changing 77k. It's certainly not exaggerating to use the word "life-changing" because it certainly has been.
3) Winning a 1.2k 5way allin pot on the 0.50/1 vs Shaun King and others
In a totally mad hand, 5 of us each get between 200-300 all in pre. I had TT and I was up against 67, 56, KJ and AA. The board runs out K89-8-T and we scoop. It came at a really key time in that I'd had a 7k downswing in the 3 weeks leading up to that, and generally had been having a pretty rough ride since the Monte Carlo in July. Morale was pretty low. There was also some history with Shaun King from his comments on this blog and it was just a fucking sweet pot to bink. There must've been 15 or 20 people crowded round the table to watch it go down and it was an awesome moment.

This might actually be my favourite poker moment from the year. Absolutely incredible. I think the last time I celebrated as hard as I did when the kingball landed was when Manchester United came from 1-0 down in the 98/99 Champion's League final versus Bayern Munich to win the treble.
For those that missed the game, or the Monte Carlo rail, this is what it feels like to watch your best mate go from borderline busto to Monte Carlo champion:

Wouldntve worked anyway, cos the 67 guy made a straight so shauns aces wouldn't win anyway. Wouldn't wanna slowroll the 67 guy and there were so many ppl watching wouldve reflected REALLY badly on me to slowroll...
Agreed in theory it wouldve been so pure...

With exes for travelling to trips etc, surely u need to aim higher next year than 50k? I mean if u go on 4 trips a year and spend money on meals, hotels etc, thats a decent chunk gone. New years aims have to got to be to play online more?
