Make the most of it cos being young does not last forever. Be lucky and I hope u win big, but even if u dont, I hope u realise jus how lucky u are to have such gud friends and to be in the position u are to have such incredible times. Make the most of it and I look forward to next episode of cribs or whatever other genius exploits u come up with. GL GL GL

yay blonde's back!

cliffs of last few days in Vegas

- More poker disappointments. It's been a brutal trip so far. I have 5 days left here to make a run at something. I'm at the top of my game, really in the zone and preparing really well for tournaments which is something I don't do so much of back home - going to the gym, swimming, relaxing and being well rested before tournaments which is helping me focus. I don't feel I've made any mistakes really all trip I've just been coolered and bad beated every comp pretty much.

Depsite this, I'm having a great time here! Every moment not spent playing poker has been awesome and I just don't wanna go home!

The team aren't doing great, thought Mitch bagged a 12k result yesterday, but I think that just clears his MU so it's not all that. I think Simon, Keith and Keys have bricked every comp like me, Andy too, except a 3x buyin cash in the $1500 yesterday. Bedi turned up yesterday though haven't seen him yet.

The One Drop has been pretty sick to sweat. How does Trickett do it every time! Confirmed absolute sicko.

When I bought in today for the $1500, I saw that it got 3000 runners and I got to thinking. Why can't they just take $10 or something out of everyones buyin and give that all to charity. That's 30k raised in a flash. There's so much money flying about in the poker world, it's shameful that more things like the one drop haven't happened already.

I just wrote to my Dad telling him about the one drop, and it's something that makes me proud to say "hey dad, the poker industry raised 5.3million for charity today". More initiatives like this please WSOP et al.

Moving to the Wynn tomorrow for the rest of the trip. 6 more days to go...

Why not also add 0.5% to the price of every Starbucks coffee sold.  That would raise a fortune as well.  Effectively you're advocating a raise in VAT from 20% to 20.5%.  (which may not be a bad thing depending on your views).

This is such a bad analogy, firstly I'm sure Starbucks as a company donate part of their profits towards some sort of "social responsibility projects" which comes out of the higher then average price of drinks .. I'm sure if part of the proceeds of a WSOP event was going to a non profit, then the WSOP would charge less in rake and have dealers working pro bono etc so effectively you wouldn't be losing as much out of the pot but still donating..

All in all I wouldn't agree with this anyway, I think (well at my age) most people have there preferred charities, so taking this choice away wouldn't be desirable for someone like me...

Of course they wouldn't - it would come straight out of the prize pool.

Any compulsory donation is taxation - that is my point.  I pick and choose my own charities.  I tend to avoid ones where the CEO earns a 6 figure salary from his cut of your donations.

True. It is "better" if everyone can decide how much to donate and to whom... the majority of well-known charities and NGOs have massive expenses in terms of sponsorships...advertising and salaries... I did some external accounting for Oxfam and it was just surreal how much money had to be spent in order to get 25-30% of the donations to the "real" aid projects. Sometimes it is better to donate to smaller NGOs if you know from a good source what their projects are and how the money is spent.
In respect to the "charity rake"... I think it was in 2006/7 that party started a series of charity tourneys during the summer... and because i have never heard about anything similar since... I have to assume they weren't too successful... :S might be a great idea for the sites to have it as an asset when the time for negotiation with the government comes...but again... as seen in .fr .es .it and germany soon... gov regulation makes everyone worse and they don't even donate the 0.7% so...

Givewell.org

A charity set up to investigate and review other charities, very helpful imo. Most of the big name charities score very poorly for efficiency/accountability/effectiveness/CEO wages, etc so worth doing a little research!

Just to keep the blog alive, I'm back in Nottingham in 2 days after my jaunt to Vegas.

Just busted right near the end of day2 of event 59, the $1k. Cashed for $4.2k coming 93rd out of 4500ish runners.

First WSOP cash, first US flag, one of the first winning days of the trip!

It's not gone very well at all pokerwise, but I've had a great time, absolutely loved it here. Will be back again soon! Probably before the end of the year in fact!

Pretty unfortunate that you only got one deep run considering some of the hands in the earlier tournaments
