Alex, as tikay and others have said you are fine as you are.

I work on contracts.  When I am working I am 12 hours at work, or travelling to work, every day if I am lucky.  If I am unlucky I am stuck in a dreary hotel for the week.  People do worse, I know people who do such long hours they pretty much work, eat and sleep five days a week and often find themselves with work to do at weekends.  I imagine a lot of these don't even #lovethejob.

By contrast when playing poker and not doing the day job, I see far more if the kids, have plenty of time to devote to real world issues and am significantly more relaxed.  Even then I don't get balanced enough to get time for sport and music.

This sounds a bit like an issue with playing poker, rather than the lack of balance in your life.  30 hours on your job really is nothing compared to most in the real world.

According to HEM I've averaged just below 27 hours p/w, are you playing 30hrs a week in total or just online ?

I don't play anywhere near as much as I probably should, and balance is definitely my biggest struggle with this poker business.

I think that is an absolutely splendid view. Tom says much the same to me frequently, though with, perhaps, a shade less eloquence.

also. I'm sure it would be nice to have X time devoted to your job, Y time to hobby1, Z time to hobby2, plenty of time for your friends and enough for famlily/girlfriends.

However in reality there are 24 hours in each day and only 7 days per week, so it's just so hard (almost impossible) to actually have this good balance that everyone says is so important, whilst realistically putting enough time into your livelihood.

IMO the best system is to sacrifice the balance now whilst your enthusiasm and energy is still high enough to sustain it, make boatloads of money and then in 10, 15, 20 years time when you want to spend less and less time working and more time on family/holidays/classical music/whatever floats the $1,000,000 boat you've bought with all the money you made in your 20's whilst everyone else was making sure they put 16 hours to one side to play badminton and attend pottery classes.

This, imo is especially easier with poker because of the opportunities for travel you get meaning you can deedicate this part of your life to your work whilst still having great experiences.

P.S Say what you like about not knowing your ave buy in, but we both know its pushing on $120 so screw you for claiming 200bi ds. I mean, between the 300e HIROLLERS and the 215$ LAPT sats, no real room for bowl comps on your screen :p

Erm this is not true! I still grind the $11 f/o on stars! Just looked on sharkscope, my abi on stars.com is $32! so in your face, OK on euro sites its like $90 but on average I guess its $50-60.

As an aside, I'm going to buy a second monitor for my desk so I can grind different sites easier and tile - I like to tile rather than stack, so I'll have say 9 stars tables on one screen and then 6 other ones on the other.

What piece of kit do you need to buy so that the two monitors link up so you just drag the mouse across from one screen to the other? I have a normal desktop computer btw.

As long as you've got a graphics card with 2 outputs you don't need anything else. Windows will recognise that you've got 2 monitors and pretty much sort it for you.

How would I know whether I have that?

Follow the wire from your existing monitor to where it connects to your pc.

It'll be plugged in to an HDMI or serial port slot on your graphics card. If there's a spare slot next to it then you're good to go. If not you need a new graphics card.

Thanks Matt. I fear it does not so I'll have to get a new graphics card, sounds pretty daunting!

Word on the grapevine is that there was a pretty insane 2/5 game at DTD last night, in which somebody won £7.5k!

Can confirm it was NOT one of the regs nor another professional. Always good to hear!
