Yesterday's £2/5 game was a good laugh and was captained by Sr Lintanon who sat with £4k and played every pot. I had direct position on him and then Pat, Simon and Ian and I was oop to Kurt, PJ, Keys and Sean. So me and Pete had the best seat draw, and basically any pot Linton didn't open or iso (which wasn't many) I opened, making PJ play even less hands that usual
I played two pots similar in size to the aforementioned quads hand vs Ian, which played out as follows.
PJ opens utg to £15, Sean 3bets utg+1 £45. Me and Sean are £2.5k deep and PJ is £1k deep. PJ's 4betting range here is ridic tight, probably just KK and AA, so I can cold call quite a bit in position here with huge implied odds vs Sean and also potential to make his life hell on some board textures. I found the
and cold called on the button, PJ flicked it in with two Jacks (confirmed lagtard).
, check, Sean bets £85, I call, PJ folds (good fold imo). I don't really expect Sean to fold to a raise here and I don't want to raise/fold a hand with such strong equity - 5 outs to the best hand, 10 to a flush draw, I turn gutshots with any 3,4,7 or 8 too and 9 clubs to bluff. Plan A) was to turn a 5 because that's the easiest way to win a big pot.
Unfortunately I'm not that blessed and had to do it the hard way.
Sean checks. Ideal card for be to start applying the pressure - £205. He calls.... Planning to bet £525 on loads of rivers. But I'd rather do it on a river such as the.......
(wiiiii). Check, I bet £525 and Sean beats me into the pot.
Last time Sean won a big pot off me he went out the next day and bought a new pair of jeans and always tells me how I paid for them. So today I'm going to buy something and do the same. Any ideas?!
Unfortunately it wasn't the last battle Sean and I had.
Last few hands of the night (sigh at my resolution to stop locking up at the end of sessions!)
I'm winning about £1.5k at this time from a peak of just under £2k. Sean raises, a few callers, I flick it in from the blinds/straddle with
.
(suits unimportant) check, Sean cbet £50, Ian raise to £200 playing £900 total. Sean's range is pretty strong in this spot, definitely stronger than Ian's who has Kx at best here the way things were going for him. Sean's cbetting range on this board is probably KJ+. I raise to £450 (mistake sizing - £350-£400 would be better), Sean unfortunately then moves allin (I think about £1500 but I didn't really look too much, it's an easy fold here), Ian sticks the rest in with KJ and I fold and Sean scoops with 55. Pretty annoyingly cold way to lose £450 right at the end of the night - and I could've saved myself £50-£100 with a more thought out raise size, Ians range is inelastic between £350 and £450 so I might as well save myself £100 the times Sean does move in and I fold. It may sound like a nitty fold btw, but Sean's never not got a set here.
Finished up £1.1k, good nights work. PJ lost £560, Sean won £1.6k, Pete was down £3k at one point, finished winning about £1k-£2k not sure.
Highlight of the night was this moment: PJ gets a lot of banter about having an absolutely incredible 39year-old scorcher Mum. He takes it pretty well (in before "so does she"), Ian had latched onto it last night and was on about being set-up with her and everything. He drops it for an hour or so and then out of nowhere, in one of those sombre moments of a cash game, when everyone's quiet after a big hand or something - BOOM
"Come on PJ let's have a look at your Mum"
Like a crunching punch in the gut, Ian was back and had the whole table (except PJ) in stitches. Brilliant.
Yo I've started reading your diary sometimes and think this sort of stuff is well written.
I don't know anything about the dynamics of the game you play but questions about the 2nd hand pls. This Sean fella has a cbetting range of KJ+ on the K high flop and only has a set when he jams the turn. Seems like a real polarised range for pokers? If Ian fella only has like Kx at best it seems like Sean fella is losing big value jamming £1.5k, esp if it makes his range so tight? I mean he got you to easy fold top two. Why does Ian raise Sean's cbet if he has a strong cbetting range? And if Sean's turn jamming range is polarised to sets why does Ian call with KJ? Btw not having a pop at anybody just don't understand anybody's thinking here.

Had/having a pretty sweet sunday. Jack/Jamie done/doing really well, I had a nice little bink a hyper (yes I know, another one) and had quite a few small cashes for <1k and am currently 7/368 itm in the $215 WCOOP
Been pretty fun, there was me, PJ, JK, Belton, Stato and Jack all in our living room - morale has been sick high all day, whoever has a sweat gets their laptop linked up to the bigscreen, has been a really fun day.
Don't really know how I've done, cos played the 1k highroller (barely played a hand, blinded out basically, annoying for my biggest ever online comp) and bricked a few other 300euros, so I've probably lost on the day, but have the WCOOP sweat to go
More disappointment on the way I'm sure, but hopes are high again!

Had a pretty bad end to the day, but have made day two - 284k going back to 10k/20k which is a top 100 stack with 116 left
Got like $1.4k in the bag, $250k ftw. Blondes have a piece so even more reason to run good tomorrow

I agree with you that Sean shouldn't be Jamming if alex has an easy fold with top2 (actually he should be Jamming QJ only in this specific spot if that is the case) It's actually a value-cut from Sean tbh as if Alex folding top2 then the worst hand he's calling is TT (perhaps QJ sometimes if he really fancies a punt) it's obviously a bit of a problem strategically from Sean's perspective if he has AK when he calls and 55+ when he jams. I actually don't really see why Alex raised the flop either.
I think the important dynamic to explain this out is that it was the end of the night, Sean winning and very unlikely to be taking off punting it in with AK or a striaght draw and sean prolly slightly happy to be just iso'ing Ian and shutting shop up booking a nice hassle-less win.
R.E Ian and KJ, from what we've heard Ian was running very poorly this night and was losing a bit, I imagine he knew quite well as he called the last bet off that he was prolly drawing thin vs Sean but end of the night/tilt/over it etc just flicked it in we've all been there, it's not a great play he's made but I certainly don't blame him for it and think a lot would do the same in his shoes there.

What if I had KQ? Do you think it'd be a good spot to merge and get Sean to fold AK/AA and Ian to call off with worse?

Yes. But you had KT!
Amirite in saying the range sean 3bets and 4bet the flop with are the same?

Forewarning: for those who don't like to read long blog posts - skip to the end where I tell the tale of Sean "zerofive" Belton getting in £478 preflop with an offsuited Jack and Four.
For those committed readers, start here.
Day Two of WCOOP.
6 minutes in, I found myself with
and 14 big blinds, in the hijack. I thought it was fairly close, but Stato said definitely jam and he is our house guru for this sort of thing so I went with it and lost to KQ. So that was fun.
Decided to take the day off the online grind after that and just grinded Prison Break with interspersed jams on the piano, in which I learnt to play Flash by Queen and Golden Brown by the Stranglers. Was pretty quiet boring day, but I really didn't feel like any more online poker.
Come 11pm was pretty bored of being housebound, so decided to go back to my roots- and do the monday night gala cash game grind. Just like my pre DTD, pre Monte Carlo days. Took PJ and Stato came along later, Zero Five is a frequents these games so he was there too.
I ran pretty damn well at the start, and made some good hands and was especially lucky in this pot vs Nick Eaton who is a dealer at DTD and general all-round (not literally, well actually...) good guy. I know it's my job and I shouldn't care, but I didn't exactly have a warm fuzzy feeling after this dirty one because I like him and he doesn't do it for a living...
Cliffs: Peel 3bet with
and float
turn
river
and I win a 700bb pot. I know I'll get questions like "well why play the hand like that if you're gonna feel bad", so I'll answer them now - I still play everyhand as best I can and make the decisions that I think are gonna make me the most money (in before, then flop pre lol), it doesn't matter who it's against, it's my job - but it doesn't mean I enjoy stacking everybody that I play against. Some I do (Mitch, PJ etc), some I don't.
I was winning about 600 or 700 at one point (deece for a 50/1 game!) then I got massively unlucky in two big pots to be only winning £200.
There was this comedy chinese guy playing who didn't speak any Enlgish, except for when he won a big pot, he'd stand up and say "YES" really loudly. Was pretty good for morale, and even when he doubled through me, I couldn't help but find it hilarious when he did it again. Here's him in a pot vs Peejay. We were all so happy when he minraised the river because we'd get to hear his cry again but it didn't quite turn out as planned...
Then the most...
unusual
hand...
The game is now 6handed £1/2, PJ, Sean, Stato, Me and two others. There's a limp and Stato opens the hijack to £10. I find
in the cutoff and make it £30. Sean makes it £74 on the button. Stato folds. I make it £140. Sean shoves for £478.
Yes. He really did have
, excellent timing because the board ran out with four hearts on them and he scooped the £1k pot.
I don't really have the words right now, maybe when it's not 7am I'll have something better to say. Not particularly happy anyway! It was a fun evening and was a really good laugh down there, but it was looking like being a very profitable one too, but sadly it didn't turn out like that. Wounded.

Bahahahaha
Correct.
Alex. I am all for poker think tanks with buddies and discussing strategy is simply the best way to improve our games full stop. I would, however, draw the line at taking advice during specific hands especially really close inflection points such as the
ICM spot. There really is no point. It's better to make your own decision and discuss afterwards in my opinion.
A great read as always.
Thanks
