Biggest flip lost?

Biggest flip swerved?

Equity in each of the above?

For clarity it was dinner / drinks flips that I was querying. Assume you knew I wouldn't be asking about poker....

How many times have you met the queen? Poshest person you are close friends with?

Who has been the biggest influence on your poker game?

Best restaurant in Cambridge?

Which have you done most, punting on the cam or trips to Anfield?

Most you have won or lost on a spread bet?

Logged

Most of the bets placed so far seem more like hopeful punts rather than value spots

Biggest % of your total net worth on the day in question lost on that day once you had a net worth > £5k?  ie not when you were a student and have feck all and lost close to the lot!  No absolute figures need to be given just the % if you want to reveal it obviously!  My fav question to ask pro gamblers.  I am surprised how few have a bigger % than me!

20%? That was a long time ago though, and that was probably losing 2k out of 10k kind of thing. Only had 1 day >10% in recent times though, that was painful.

Biggest influence on poker game: Mitch. Played more hands with him than anyone and was the alpha dog in the DTD games when I was coming up through the ranks so he was a big (literally) influence both in actual strategy and how to be a good for the games etc.

Best restaurant in Cambridge: pass, haven't eaten out there more than a handful of times in last 10 years.

Punting on the cam>trips to anfield, by some degree lol.

Never done a spread bet before. Ask me in 12 months time lol. Planning to go HAM. Will post about it here when I've got my bets sorted.

Boring answer but a probs a nitty £1k is limit and don't dine with super degen ppl so doesn't get to that level ever anyway. Always flip for 100% of meals, drinks, club entries, taxi fares etc still yes.

Lost 3 and swerved hopefully more than 3 around 500-800. Wrong diary for these questions, go to Lil Dave!

I had a degen moment in Vegas this year where me and a friend Russell went for a spin in the pit, going 50/50. He did his limit then stood by and watched me do $1500 on top on craps on a solo mission to get out of it. Vegas is the only time of year I'm at all degen. I just feel so stupid afterwards I hate it. I know how long it'll take me to make that back in terms of hourly so that puts me off (most of the time...)

@Adam, took me ages to dig this up! I actually still see him on EPT stops, same old same old, sitting joke deep, being rude to ppl, staff etc, not playing a hand...

Let me tell you about big Mike.

Big Mike is an Italian American as far I can work out. He sits with about 3k in our 1/2 games, and literally doesn't play a hand. He is without doubt the biggest nit/rock I've ever played with and pointlessly sits ridic deep to cover the table. He flats rivers with nut boats afraid of straight flushes, checks backs turns and rivers with aces (i swear I'm not exaggerating) He also makes a fuss about loads of little things, gets rulings in pointless situations, calls clock on ppl etc. He's also quite large so takes up loads of room and we always have to move around to accommodate him.

Nobodies ever even seen him put more than £200 into a pot, let alone stack him.

This is dragging on a bit so I'll spare the details, where the money goes in is irrelevant, basically I get AJ on AA4J4 vs his A4 and double up through him in a 2.2k pot. Mitch gets the rest off him shortly after flopping the nuts with QJ on AKTxx.

It felt like a group achievement that we'd all be waiting for but thought would never happen.

After months and months, finally, big Mike had been stacked.

Why not

Biggest put won and biggest pot lost and did you cry on both, neither or on just one of those occasions? Smiley

Think biggest pot won is boring, I just had Aces full against something, wasn't that memorable especially since I lost everything I won in that hand over the next hour lol. Biggest pot lost, however, certainly does stick in the memory.

I got it all in on the flop with a flush draw against a full house.

The game is £25/50/100 and we're playing the button game for £100 (each button adds £100 to the button until the button wins the hand and wins the money). The button money had build up to £1300 in this hand, so he had a £1300 extra incentive to win this pot. So everyone's sizings and ranges change when he's in the pot.

I make it £600 preflop with and get 5, yes 5 callers.

three clubs , I bet £1600, the button raises to £4k and I thought really? fk this guy, jam £15k total. He had Tens full. It was a mistake.

I played on and got coolered once for stacks, and bad beated another time for stacks. That was my biggest losing night ever by a decent margin.

I didn't feel too bad, I knew a day like that was coming, I'd avoided a nightmare session for way too long at these stakes. Even the night before I was in a hole not too dissimilar in size and managed to get out of it.

That session was mid May this year, and looking at my numbers, I've just gotten out of it, over two months later.

Biggest blind you've posted?

Biggest straddle posted...and how the action went?

Blind 100, Straddle is 400. Don't think anything exciting happened. I've played some 10bb deep heads up 50/100 vs Terry Jordan before which was fun lol.

Preposterous.

Questions/scenarios.....

- You can wind the clock back to the time when you were at University. Everything is exactly as it was then. Knowing what you now know, would you choose the same path? What are your reasons why/why not?

- You derive a livelihood in a manner many would believe to be glamorous / aspire to themselves. What would you say are the three most underrated elements of what you do for a living, and the three most overrated elements?

- You have a 10hr day to 'train' an individual who is a complete poker novice, but very bright/perceptive/hardworking, an IQ of 145 and reasonably strong emotional intelligence. After the day's training he will be sent to play £1/2 live NL with your money, on a 50/50 split after stake back, for the period of a month. Would you want to do this in any circumstances? What would you teach him/focus upon? How do you like his chances? What must he avoid at all costs? What must he never forget?

Should be plenty to be getting on with Smiley

Would I choose the same path? Surely you can guess at my answer there! If this outcome wasn't enough, what was I hoping would happen! In all the simulations about what could have ended up happening, this one has to be in the top 1%. Absolutely, wouldn't change a thing. Drop out sooner, if anything.

3 most underated elements- this is hard because I feel most of the positives things about playing poker are fairly obvious, so won't go with the standard doing something you love for a job, freedom, money, etc

1) Buzz - the adrenaline rush from big pots, big tournaments, big bluffs etc don't think can ever be rated highly enough

2) Getting inside people's heads - I love the psychological side of the game

3) Taxes, so huge not to get taxed! In the UK people earning over £32k get taxed 40%! Absurd to pay nothing!

overrated

1) Glamour - go to amazing places but spend most of the time in the casino. Life in London is not much different from a 9-5 except the office is a nice casino and you don't have to wear a suit.

2) Diversity - People comment about the huge range of characters you meet, but they're generally not lasting relationships (just a few hours or night at the table together). Your lasting relationships are pretty much exclusively with poker players or dealers. Would like to mix with wider circle sometimes.

3) Hours - Normal people really don't get quite how hard it is to work nights.

***

10 hour day to train poker novice

No I would not expect him to be profitable. Would waste so much time teach the rules/basics and no way you can just jump into any game with no experience and 10 hours of coaching and be profitable. No I can't think of any circumstances I would want to do this unless I was paid handsomly or it was an idol of mine (e.g. John Arne Riise) I had to teach.

If I had 10 hours and he was supposed to win at 1/2 live, I might tell him that betting without at least a pair is against the rules.  And always bet when you have better than one pair. Never call with worse than top pair. Keep it very simple basically. I think live 1/2 the most basic errors people make are bluffing people that don't fold, and calling people that don't bluff. So you can't go much wrong never bluffing and never (hero) calling and never trapping.

Bet double the previous bet (ppl get bogged down keeping track of the pot and don't know what to bet so get flustered).

I reckon I could do it actually!

Thanks for the questions!
