Completely agree. I just can't understand it. People that play for living it's more understandable (playing like a rock that is, not the 20x raises with kings) as it's a job, their not doing it to have fun etc.

But the social player who plays a couple of times a week, how can playing that way be enjoyable at all?

I'd sooner stack off to an awful player who makes some horrible play and gets there than one of these guys.

Also, I find these are the guys that'll fold for 5 hours, then 3b shove with q9 suited and no fold equity saying "I was getting bored". Then they have one big blind and find aces king and queens back to back and ship the whole comp. Akskcjekwldmvmdksmakdm

Tweeted this yesterday (gb2loose on twitter) yesterday and it's provoked some debate from the great man himself, whom I hope will respond on here:

"I'll never understand all you nits and rocks. How can you even enjoy playing poker?!?!"

Just some context behind why I posted this.

Thoughts people?
I probably play to tight, especially in MTT's. The problem is whenever I try to loosen up I seem to do badly. I just don't understand how to make that style of play work. A few times I got some chips really quickly then don't seem to be able to keep them.  I played a local tournament a few months back where I was chip leader at the first break after getting up from 5K to 23K in the first couple of hours and manged to blow it all in 30 minutes after the break.

Generally I want to be competitive and give myself the best chance to do well and this seems to be the best way for me of doing it. How do you enjoy poker? I assume you mean live poker mainly as online you just open up more tables. To be honest if you are playing live a few times every week then I am guessing you don't enjoy it as much as a LAG player. I only play live poker about twice a month so it is a bit of a novelty I suppose. Also you get to see people you don't see very often so that makes it enjoyable as well.

Anyway, congrats on the results at the UKIPT hope you get a big score in one soon

Guilty as charged, & thank you for neatly proving the point I made to RP on Twitter this morning.

Tweeted this yesterday (gb2loose on twitter) yesterday and it's provoked some debate from the great man himself, whom I hope will respond on here:
"I'll never understand all you nits and rocks. How can you even enjoy playing poker?!?!"

Just some context behind why I posted this.

There's a player who plays at the local casino who has done the following in comps recently:

-Folded 10s utg 5 handed as he might run into jacks or ace king

-Raised to 3k with Kings level 1 because he doesn't want to get called by a rag ace

-Basically sits in the comp all night, plays zero flops. Waits for a hand and then just plays showdown poker

I'm not critiquing his play nor am I questioning anyone's strategy- just stating it must be a very boring way of playing.

I remember tom Rutter (numpty dumpty) once said to me being a rock must be a very unhappy existance. You can get immense joy from poker, yes winning tops it all but things like pulling off a huge multi street bluff, making a hero call or getting there with a bad hand fall into this category. Something which the aforementioned player probably never does (yes he's an extreme example but you get my drift)

Thoughts people?

I assume by "the great man" you refer to Lord Cos.

For my take, as it was you & I that briefly debated this on Twitter, bear with me, I'll let a few more Posts come in first which prove the point I made this morning, then I'll reply.

In the interim, please tell me......

1) What you had for dinner last night.

2) Your favourite book.

3) Your favourite football Team.
