My daughter is turning 14 next month. She's just dumped her boyfriend and is going "hottie hunting" at Drayton Manor with one of her friends (with their family)

Worrying times.

Tweeted this yesterday (gb2loose on twitter) yesterday and it's provoked some debate from the great man himself, whom I hope will respond on here:
"I'll never understand all you nits and rocks. How can you even enjoy playing poker?!?!"

Just some context behind why I posted this.

There's a player who plays at the local casino who has done the following in comps recently:

-Folded 10s utg 5 handed as he might run into jacks or ace king

-Raised to 3k with Kings level 1 because he doesn't want to get called by a rag ace

-Basically sits in the comp all night, plays zero flops. Waits for a hand and then just plays showdown poker

I'm not critiquing his play nor am I questioning anyone's strategy- just stating it must be a very boring way of playing.

I remember tom Rutter (numpty dumpty) once said to me being a rock must be a very unhappy existance. You can get immense joy from poker, yes winning tops it all but things like pulling off a huge multi street bluff, making a hero call or getting there with a bad hand fall into this category. Something which the aforementioned player probably never does (yes he's an extreme example but you get my drift)

Thoughts people?

I assume by "the great man" you refer to Lord Cos.

For my take, as it was you & I that briefly debated this on Twitter, bear with me, I'll let a few more Posts come in first which prove the point I made this morning, then I'll reply.

In the interim, please tell me......

1) What you had for dinner last night.

2) Your favourite book.

3) Your favourite football Team.

Wink

I love that you assumed the 'great man' was me (can understand why etc) but unless my memory is terrible (v poss) I don't think it was.

As a father of two girls (now aged 25 and 27) I think the best advide I can offer is to buy shackles and a pair of bolt cutters...

Use the shackles on the daughter whenever possible and show the boltcutters to any boys who the girls may meet.

They will eventually move out and you can [ ] stop worrying then.

The first time I went round to a girls house as a teenager, I was introduced to the girls father who was wearing nothing but a pair of y-fronts and holding a baseball bat, with a manic grin on his face like he was about to kill me and eat me. That was my one and only date with the girl, pretty certain that should do the trick.

I went out with a girl once her dad was a right mean s.o.b, always trying to intimidate me and stuff. first time i went round their house he showed me a tattoo on his chest of a Swastika. He was an Ex member of the NF, Ex because he married an Asian woman.. the guy was so dumb and i was always walking on egg shells, but after an all day drinking session with him and his mate we got on OKish... until one day when he read his daughter's diary and found out the stuff we had been getting upto, from that day forward i was never allowed in the house again, he refused to look at or speak to me and apparently my gf and her little brother were not allowed to mention my name in the house. It lasted 9 months after that. She was a mynx tho.

Point is depending on how much the boy likes the girl you might really have to up the horrible father routine.

May i suggest:

I was at Drayton Manor today and met the most adorable little girl. Told me she was turning 14 soon. I thought this was too freak a coincidence, so I asked if her father knew anything about poker. She said, "no" so naturally I assumed it was Bedi's girl and left immediately.

Believed all of it apart from the "left immediately" Reckon you hit on her mate instead

I've got two boys 14 & 12. Keeping them from going blind with redtube etc. is like the cold war arms race. Eldest is a smart git (worked out how to disable the filtering software on his laptop) but Dad's still two steps in front - for now.
