I'd bet the fees for the golf course are a goodly bit more than the price of their toy. Not to mention - those weren't 'kids'. They're old enough to know better and whilst it might be funny doing it to yer mates, it doesn't look like those were mates.
They're lucky he didn't connect better with the golf club imo.

I know they were only messing about but I think they learnt a pretty good lesson about why you shouldn't take the piss out of people.
You never know when it's going to go horribly wrong.
Young kids pick on 'weak' targets for japes. Oops, they've got big metal sticks and aren't afraid to use them!!

These kids were basically bullying 2 old guys because they assumed they were easy targets.
They picked the wrong targets and got what they deserved.

No sympathy as such, but its pretty sad that the old guys couldn't take the joke and thought that turning their golf clubs into offensive weapons would be a good idea. If they had connected and injured the kids, I don't think they would have had much sympathy from a judge if they tried to plead mitigating circumstances. The old guys would get done for aggravated bodily harm, while the kids would probably be done for trespass or some such crime.
