UKIPT Nottingham at DTD: Schedule/Thread

One tour is run by a casino which never provide what you want, the other is run by an online force with a birrion people that can satellite in. Just let the grosvenor tour die, hopefully we'll get more poker clubs like DTD as opposed to management run profit hoovers.

Really don't get this attitude. If the GUKPT was to die, if grosvenor stopped adding £300k to the UK poker economy, that would benefit any of us how? Why would anyone, poker player or anything else, want that to stop?

I have never understood why if you win a sat on any site you should be expected to wear their logo.  You use your money to win the seat and pay them rake at every point.  If the sats were rake free or they added money then fair enough but they don't.  There is no other sport or game in the world where the players are exploited in the way that (unsponsored) poker players are.  Almost no casino ever adds money yet for every tourney that we PAY to enter we effectively sign away image rights etc.  My nephew is a decent footballer (sick brag I know) and ever since he first signed schoolboy forms has had control over his image rights and they are a decent part of his contract now.

Agree completely, I always thought u only 'had' to wear a badge if someting was added to the prizepool, like at teh WSOP I think Stars now give u a free room for the duration of the main event if u sign up to wearing their stuff, if u don't, then find your own hotel. Seems fair to me. That's why I was surprised to find out if I bought in to the UKIPT I would be 'forced' to wear a Stars badge. Obv, as has been said, they can't force u to wear it, and if they do, what's to stop u putting it on tour underpants, your tshirt under a hoody or whatever, but if events are to be televised, even if u aren't sponsiored, that kind of thing might stop u getting something from another site.
Poker is such a fked up game, when we are the only people who put up our own prize money, and allow people to see how we play with cameras looking at hole cards. I had a long chat to a Premiership player in Vegas and he basically couldn't believe that players risk their own money and still aren't paid when they're on TV and basically said u need to get a proper agent but that's just not how tv poker works unfortunately

your comments are valid and you continue to be respected by the majority of players in this country geoff. i agree zac is excellent and my personal gripe is with ian and not really the gukpt. ian continues to make stupid rulings that are at best wrong. i think on a p.r. level dena would be good for the tour and you wont have too many people in the manchester area wanting to put here in the boots of their cars when they disagree with her decision. i also feel that there are not enough chances to win seats and when you ante up £2500 for the vic in dec and £1000 for manchester it puts a big dent in the roll if you dont cash. i have always maintained that the gukpt is by far the strongest tour event in this country due to the higher number of pro players but people can only take so much before they say enough is enough and dont ante up

Jeff you have some valid points but it's clear that they are to defend your sponsor and not some random observation. Fair play to you- if I was sponsored I would be doing the same.

fact remains is that stars know how to run tourneys and grosvenor keep getting things wrong imo. I agree tho that I would like to see both tours flourish. Let's hope Grosvenor can get their house in order- numbers in Manchester suggest it's far from dead

mcr was buzzing i cant see the gkupt fading great when you win side event there is a 10k 20 seater comp the following week cant be bad. i personally want both tours 2 do well along with genting events no need 4 expensive flights and hotels. lets keep the poker in england

sigh - trouble tends to follow me wherever I go - Basically had been barred once for going mental at a blackjack table, then got allowed bck, took a "so called friend" one night, got them to join up, played some pokerz, cashed out, waited for the person to do there nuts on the roulette wheel, they got there money bck, asked them to leave as I was driving and had to be up early in the morning, they kept playing, moving table to table, I kept askig them to leave or said I would just go, they kept ignoring me, they then complained to the floor, said I was harrassing them?

The floor gtd me I would not be in trouble, as I asked them to check the cameras, we had come i together, I was the one who drove us up there, obviously, my name had been in the hot water b4, and 4 days later I got a letter in the post, been nearly 3 yrs now and after 3 letters, still no joy, so kinda given up on the whole thing....

We soon ended our friendship after that eposide lol - I was pretty offended by the whole thing tbh, trying to make sure a friend got home safe, and end up getting barred was never the plan !

This.  I'm heartily sick of airports.  I don't understand why people would want GUKPT to die when it contains the highest buyin regular events on the British schedule.  The UKIPT is a nice addition, filling the gap the GBPT left, but if all we have is the UKIPT and £500 becomes what people consider a high buy-in then you can consider british poker a failure.  I'm going out of my way to support the GUKPT this year with all the addittional money theyre pumping into it, despite them scheduling events against the EPT.

I also think its unfair to accuse jeff of shilling.  I have zero affiliation with grosvenor or any of the sites involved, but am equally baffled by people who want the grosvenor tour gone.
