Bank with HSBC- and all their savings, investment accounts are basically instantly available to transfer money online to your current account- are their any accounts available that require 12hrs or so notice to move money? Obviously so its not so easily accessible to deposit bigger sums online when you probably shouldnt.
Trying to start 2011 with good intentions and cut back on leaks as much as possible and late night depositing and moving funds to do it is still the number 1 leak. If i was unable to move money without 12hours notice I could still deposit decent amounts when needed but wouldnt do impulsive reckless stuff

I don't know of such a product. Notice times are usually longer. Have you spoken to HSBC about putting a restriction on your account?

I dont want a restriction as such because as you said most accounts such as this require longer waiting times, and that isnt an option. Even a 6hour limit would be fine. Trying to think of a better solution, maybe opening a 2nd online banking account and giving the details to someone i trust and they can then ship me as needed- but just seems a lot of hastle
Only thinking of this as just discovered Stars 12hour exclusion thing- its brilliant, can play all day and soon as had enough click 12hour exclusion and cant play when tired, bored or been drinking. Wake up and repeat

Not sure HSBC due card readers? I certainly dont know anyone who uses one with them- and not sure where wouldnt be accessible in the middle of the night?

I have acounts requiring a card reader but if you have set up payee details once, there is no further need for the reader.

they can't grim you as the device is useless without the rest of the account details/password etc.

Disable online access completely to one of the accounts? Depends if having to phone up to transfer is a sufficient deterrent to spewing.
Or change to private banking, one of the boutique providers will probably do what you want.

I bank with natwest and nationwide, natwest transfers are instant, but nationwide often take a couple of days. I'm referring specifically to transferring money to other banks, not sure about gaming transactions. In fact for my nationwide account I'm pretty sure I only have a cash card not a debit card, so therefore cannot deposit on gaming sites with it. My only method of withdrawal is through the cash card (I have low daily limit on that), and via transfer to other banks which as mentioned takes a couple of days.

How about going into Ye Olde Worlde Building Society in the High Street? Open an account that doesn't offer online transfer (out) /ATM access functionality ~ an old fashioned passbook that requires a branch visit. If you degen money from that account, no account is safe...
