Whoops...

Posted 30 minutes ago by BenLudlow

A player under-the-gun raised it up preflop to 16,000. Alex Martin in late position re-raised to 37,500. After a bit of tanking, the under-the-gun player re-raised all in and got insta-called by Martin for his last 151,000 with KK. The under the gun player was obviously trying to make a move as he showed {10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}.

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{10-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} to give Martin the double up. He is now at around 315,000.

Kim Nguyen - 2nd Place

Kim Nguyen raised with the button, Darren Woods re-raised, Nguyen got the rest of her stack in the middle, and Woods called.

Nguyen: {k-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Woods: {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Nguyen was in great shape to double, and the {k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop kept her in the lead. The {j-Spades} on the turn was clean, and all signs pointed towards a double-up until the {4-Clubs} slammed on the river to give Woods trips.

All Nguyen could do was laugh - and she has good reason to smile. She bested 352 runners, and earns $131,900 for her second place finish. Nguyen was the third woman to make a final table at the 2011 World Series of Poker, but after falling short this is officially the 179th straight open event won by a male player.

However, with the recent success of female players, that number is surely in danger.

A third British Bracelet

Event #19: $2,500 Limit Hold'em / Six Handed

Congratulations to Darren Woods, Winner of Event #19: $2,500 Limit Hold'em/Six Handed ($213,431)

Two days ago, 354 players registered for Event #19: $2,500 Limit Hold'em / Six Handed. Today, the final twelve players of that field returned to battle for a World Series of Poker bracelet. It was a back-and-forth day, but in the end it was British-player Darren Woods who emerged victorious to claim the $213,431 first-place prize.

Day 3 saw an eclectic mix of players return for their shot at WSOP glory. Among them was the only bracelet winner left in the field, Matt Matros; online superstar Richard “nutsinho” Lyndaker; and last year’s 107th-place Main Event finished, Matthew Schreiber. Unfortunately, those players were among first half of the day’s eliminations, and ultimately missed out on the final table.
First Six Eliminations

Place   Player   Earnings
7th   Richard Lyndaker   $20,053
8th   Scott Stanko   $20,053
9th   Jay Pinkussohn   $14,866
10th   Joe Gualtieri   $14,866
11th   Matt Schreiber   $11,291
12th   Matt Matros   $11,291

By the time we reached the final table, six players remained including Kim Nguyen, only the third woman to make a final table here at the 2011 WSOP. She was joined by a very familiar face in Russian pro Alexander Kuzmin, who took down the World Poker Tour Southern Championship in Biloxi, Mississippi back in January for $575,969. Rounding out the final table was Woods, Gabriel Nassif, Andrey Zaichenko, and Samuel Golbuff.

It didn’t take long before we had our first final-table elimination when Nassif’s {A-Hearts}{9-Spades} failed to improve against the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} of Golbuff as the board ran out {j-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. The Parisian pro finished in sixth place, and received $27,720 for his efforts.

It took a long time before the next elimination, but it was bound to happen as the blinds just got higher and higher. With the blinds at 8,000/15,000, a short-stacked Zaichenko got the remainder of his chips in the middle preflop with {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades} against Woods' {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. The board ran {j-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades}{k-Clubs}, and Zaichenko was eliminated from the tournament in fifth place, taking home $39,317.

The next player to go was Kuzmin in fourth place ($57,236), whose stack slowly dwindled and was eventually gobbled up by both Woods and Nguyen, who ended up chopping Kuzmin’s final hand. Following the Russian out the door was Golbuff, who also grew shortstacked. He was eliminated in third place for $85,616, leaving Nguyen (1.5 million) to do battle against Woods (1.15 million) in heads-up play.

The Amazon Room was abuzz with excitement as the possibility of a woman taking down a WSOP Event was essentially a 50/50 proposition. Not since Vanessa Selbst took down the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament at the 2008 WSOP has a woman won an open event. Ironically, that event was number #19, the same event number assigned to this Event #19 $2,500 Limit Hold’em/Six-Handed.

Woods started the heads-up match with a bang, seizing momentum early and vaulting into the chip lead. From there, he never looked back as he patiently picked his spots and collected pot after pot. After about an hour and a half of heads-up play, the final hand developed when Nguyen raised on the button, Woods re-raised, Nguyen got the rest of her short stack in the middle, and Woods made the call.

Nguyen: {k-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Woods: {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Nguyen was in great shape to double, and the {k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop kept her in the lead. The {j-Spades} on the turn was clean, and all signs pointed towards a double-up until the {4-Clubs} spiked on the river. Just like that, Nguyen was eliminated as the runner up, an accomplishment worth $131,900.
$2,500 Limit Hold'em / Six Handed Final Table Results

Place   Player   Earnings
1st   Darren Woods   $213,431
2nd   Kim Nguyen   $131,900
3rd   Samuel Golbuff   $85,616
4th   Alexander Kuzmin   $57,236
5th   Andrey Zaichenko   $39,317
6th   Gabriel Nassif   $27,720

Congratulations to Darren Woods on becoming the latest WSOP Champion and third Brit to win a bracelet in 2011.

Event #22: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha
Day 1 completed

The first ten levels of Event #22- Pot-Limit Omaha are officially in the books! It’s been quite an exciting day of play today. We started with 1071 players today and somehow cut through the field rather quickly, managing to pop the money bubble right at the end of the night. That means 117 people will be returning tomorrow to vie for the gold WSOP bracelet and the $292,825.Towering above the rest of the field today is Cody Munger with 128,100 in chips. Other big stacks include Nick Binger (121,600) and Jeff Sarwer (90,900).

Today saw many players take their shot at the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha gold bracelet, only to fall short. Among today’s notable eliminations are Annette Obrestad, Shannon Shorr, Phil Hellmuth, Liv Boeree, Eric Froehlich, Jason Mercier, and last year’s champion of this event, Tex Barch.

That being said, many notables were also able to wade through the field today and progress on to Day 2 play. Among the notables that survived are Nick Binger, Ari Engel, Michael Binger, David Chiu, and Jeff Sarwer.

Event #23: $2,500 Eight-Game Mix

Day 1 In the Books

After eight levels of playing eight different games, we are through with Day 1 of Event #23: $2,500 Eight-Game Mix. 489 players entered this tournament, and of that, 248 will be returning tomorrow. 48 of those players will make the money, but all of them have one thing on their minds: the first place prize of $278,144 and that shiny gold bracelet.

The overnight chip leader is Abraham Mourshaki. He will be bagging 64,850 chips, and held the chip lead for the latter half of the day today. Right on his heels in second Nikolay Evdakov , who has 57,725. Other big names that are still in the hunt are Marco Traniello, Greg Mueller, Victor Ramdin, Noah Boeken, Eugene Katchalov, and fresh off their epic heads up battle just a few nights ago, both John Juanda and Phil Hellmuth.

Also in contention is defending champion Sigurd Eskeland, who bagged 18,150 chips tonight. Some of those players who weren’t fortunate enough to survive the day were Daniel Negreanu, David Williams, Mike Matusow, Todd Brunson, and Pokernews’s own Remko Rinkema.

Just seen a tweet from "kevmath" suggesting that the overnight's in Alex Martin's jobbie are as below......

"...Day 2 of the $1500 PLO resumes at 2:30 with 117 remaining - http://bit.ly/j7CK3Y ....."

I don't seem to be able to C & P the spreadsheet, though.
