Can you run virus software in safe mode?  Or adaware or spyware software?

I think McAfee have an online virus checker too - or they used to have.

The link IFM gave is an online tool, its microsofts own and is pretty good, i ran it and it was easy to use

Just quickly scanned the replies, so forgive me if i'm way off base or this has already been suggested, Hijack This can be downloaded from the this link:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/HijackThis_d3155.html

Once you have the log that it produces you can post it on their forum, someone will tell you how to fix the problem, IF, of course, it is a virus/hijacker.

Sounds a pain whatever it is, Best of luck fixing it.

Smashed 1 keyboard up already, on tilt and i haven't played poker yet!

I do not get any messages when i start now, however i have no volume, half my programs still don't work. If I minimise anything it disappears completely, takes 10 minutes to start up, cannot copy and paste anyything, no links work and i just wasted £39.99 on downloading mcafee 2006 as it has completely been swallowed up somewhere on this @!&$ computer, still cant restore HAPPY SODDING NEW YEAR!!!

Did you do as i said?
If you get the error message for the drive (which you did) it is almost certainly a virus, get hijackthis and post the results on the forum and they will sort it for you.
