such a relief personally to see tendulkar out. twice yesterday I went onto the oval's ticketing system, twice the queue was long and I couldn't be arsed to wait. was really starting to think I'd screwed up and missed out on a historic moment

Love the fact that Tendulkar clearly thought it was inconceivable that any umpire would give him out on a marginal decision when he was in the nineties chasing his 100th 100.
You could see him turning away thinking 'that's not plumb - I'm safe'.

Shame really.
FYP Tendulkar has been shit all summer - the one Indian who has shone has been Dravid. Tendulkar scoring 100 would have seen Dravid overshadowed by Tendulkar again, just like he has been his whole career.

For Butt and Asif (and hopefully if they get enough evidence, the one who got away. No names here but he kept wicket...) definitely. Not so sure about Amir. From what I've read it appears he was young, immature and made a mistake. Definitely not an organiser, or got serious money from it. In court today it was made out that it was the "done thing" in the Pakistan team from 2006-2010, and I get the impression he was just a follower. I think 5 years is enough for him, and could feasibly see him play again.

I don't want to see any of them playing again. A life ban for Amir would send the strongest statement. No matter how young and talented you are, if you do this your career is over. He's a guilty man. He knew what we did was wrong. If he'd done it to stay in the team and turned down the money then a shorter ban would be appropriate. Not in this case though.

I think everyone's being super super harsh.
Look at international cricket today. There's been a lot of money flood into the sport and a lot of players are making a very good living from the international game, and the IPL.
However, Pakistan's cricketers are kind of left out of this - they're shut out from taking part in IPL ever since the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Pakistan can't play any matches at home, as no one will tour there because of the security situation, which hurts the finances of the PCB.
This must engender quite a bit of resentment on their part, so if someone comes along and asks them to bowl a couple of no balls for money (not fixing a result, like Hansie Cronje) I'm sure they could quite easliy see it as just going someway to redress the unfairness in a way that no one would really get hurt (a couple of no balls is not going to make any difference in the grand scheme of things).
Yes, they did wrong, but they are also victims of the cack-handed way that cricket is organised these days.

I like to be a reactionary quite a lot of the time but really quite shocked by the sentences for the Pakistani cricketers. Seems way over the top to me. Worse kinds of fixing have gone on before and nothing like this severe ever happened.
I'm not a good researcher so haven't been able to read what they've actually been convicted of. Anyone know ?
Anyway, summing up, send Harmison to Jail imo for THAT wide in Australia, it can't have been real

I think it's dangerous to assume what effect is has. If it's worth paying 100k for then somebody must be making more than this from it. If somebody is making money from it then somewhere somebody must be losing money because of it and we don't really know what the result of that is.
