Atherton, Gower and Hussein all say they would of done what Dhoni did on the field.
Well in that case it was obviously the sporting and correct thing to do. Yawn.

They were nowhere near the pavillion - Bell was only half way down the wicket and almost turned back when he realised what was happening. Morgan made damn sure he grounded his bat as the ball was thrown in from the boundary.
Cracking batting from Morgan and Bell at the moment though.

My God, he's not a 5 year old child who needs positive reinforcement. India did the wrong thing and corrected it, move on and stop noshing him off over it.

Respect to India and Dhoni this is cricket a gentlemans game, in the end they did the right thing.
Obviously under the laws of the game he is out and the umpires did exactly the right thing including asking Dhoni whether he wanted to withdeaw his appeal.
The only one who looks bad here is Bell for some pretty dopey cricket.
This. End of discussion.

By the letter of the law was he out? Seems to be a suggestion that if he thought it was 4 and therefore the ball was dead then he wasn't attempting a run and can't be run out. I'm not geeky enough to know.

Deffo out under the laws of the game. Ball was never dead at any point by hitting the rope or an umpire calling over/tea/dead ball.

I was a bit disappointed that it turns out our management team felt the need to go and challenge the indian team during tea. Bit pathetic and bottom lippy for my liking.
Don't think India did much wrong, spirit of the game is a load of guff really, how many times do fieldsman appeal when they know its not out or batsman not walk.
Just suck it up, let Bell know he made a bit of a balls up and go and play some more cricket.

Yes if you are out of your crease and the ball is live you can be run out, no matter what you are attempting to do. Of course this is where the spirit of the game comes into play. When I started playing cricket as a kid, it was drilled into us that cricket was a game of fair play. You didn't do stuff like taking the bails off when you are bowling, when non striking batsman is following up too much. You would at least warn them once before doing it.

Yup spot on, that's what we were always taught from day 1 too.

Prior is the man in these situations, just takes the game away from teams in a blink of an eye.
Just bought a ticket online for tomorrow, looking forward to it.
