i just wrote out a really long post about  justifying it etc ..but changed my mind and deleted it to be honest deep down i am 50/50 whether i was morally correct or not

if you think i a scumbag then think that....but most of you dint even know me.

i started the thread cos one was not sure if i was wrong and i knew it would get a reaction   still unsure ..lol but good good debate

just for the record if the guy knocks on my door i would think again.... until then food on the table shoes/trainers on the kids feet (literally)

How can you have wrote a post justifying what you've said when you admit yourself you're 50/50 as to whether what you did was fair and correct thing to do?

What you've done isn't the worst thing in the world, but it was wrong. You know it deep down too as it's the reason you started this thread.

When buying an old car/van, you know that the MOT date is key.

If there's a newish MOT  you know you can legally drive it for nearly a year without worrying too much about the unknown, probably expensive, cost of a new MOT.
If there is no MOT, or very little time remaining, you know you are taking a big risk cost wise, unless you get it checked.

You told him the date due....its then up to him. Ok you have had an estimate done......but who knows if that is correct?

He didn't seem to care/ask any questions so, maybe he knows a cheap mechanic/dodgy MOT/run it illegally/ sell it on/take the top off and use it as a Greenhouse...........

Personally I might have said something like " it might need a bit of work to get through the MOT", but I don't think you did anything wrong.

If you wait 10 minutes before answering the door he'll either have gone or be really mad.

Maybe he has come to say he found a wad of cash in the back of the boot, a similar amount to what it would have cost to fix it in the first place, and was turning it in - just to make you feel even more guilty.

wow, cool plot twist.

Think you are left with a new quandry

Either your garage did try and stiff you (not sure why ten years means anything btw, I had a similar should be loyal experience with a garage that tried to shaft me once) or you now know that someone is driving around in an unsafe car and havent told them yet.
