I'm starving after having a look at that menu, will you be going for the tomahawk?

Love the wedding video, I'm not sure if I've seen it before.

That lifting up of the bride and groom in chairs also happens at a lot of Jewish weddings which is probably not really that surprising as many came from Eastern Europe, but I had always assumed it was a Jewish rather than an Eastern European tradition.

Enjoy your evening.

Cheers Ralph

I will do a full TR on the dinner Wink

Yh I have been to a few weddings now and the farmers hat symbolises the fact you will provide for your wife in the future with the bride wearing the maids bonnet to symbolise that she will look after the home and bring up the children and the tradition is at midnight all the "unmarried" girls form a circle around with the candles and then the chaps hoist you up with the happy couple being given one shot of Slivovice (ask FredW or just look back at Alex's montage from 2014) and a shot glass with water in and after you have downed the shot you throw the glasses over your shoulder with it being bad luck if both glasses do not shatter.

Luckily ours did and then another tradition takes place which is the broom dance with me dancing with a broom whilst the wedding guests throw notes and coins whilst dancing round you in a circle and us sweeping up the glass, notes and coins into a box that the bottom falls out of then another box and 15 mins later you have a few thousand euro ( to start you off as a family), some shrapnel and some broken shot glasses for good measure.

Another dance then starts with the folk band who play for about 12 hours and stop playing when each of the 4meals served are brought out and when the last guest or bride and groom leave but this dance is where each of the females dance with the groom and vica versa.

It was actually really nice and forutnately for us in Petra's circle of mums n toddlers is one of the owners wives so they treated us accordingly and comped a few things which was very nice of them!

We went for the French Platter to start with followed by

The Tomahawk Steak which is served medium (recc'd) and cut off the bone served on the platter in the photo below and we added 1/2 a lobster (must have been a small lobster) with sides of fat cut chips and greens.

Then Petra had the trio of deserts in shot glasses and I went for the Mars bar cheesecake

It's not cheap as you would expect and even with a couple of comped drinks, Gaspacho and a couple of sorbet palate cleanser's the bill still came to £150 pre tip but it was worth it.

Hope you enjoy MrDickie!  Are you local to Southend then?

Sunday was spent nice and chilled with a visit to my dad's resting place which Max albeit I am sure doesnt understand fully loves to visit and knows this as Grandad's tree plus a bit of playing in the garden with the kids (this is Max's Den)

Just outside sunny Basildon but an addicted foodie which is really tough now that MrsD found out that she was allergic to wheat 12 months ago. Thankfully a few restaurants that we like accommodate this and you just have to do a bit of research before going out. We even found a fab GF chippie in Leigh called Fish-a-Licious via google and you have to try it even if your not GF. Everything cooked to order and their chips are amazing. I am salivating over the pics that you posted and will also post a TR on your diary if you don't mind.

Bah…. trip report to Bourgee will have to wait for a while. I booked Thursday off work to visit a friend who was due to have a knee replacement at Southend’s Spire Wellesley Hospital and then kill two birds with one stone and have a nice relaxing meal afterwards. It turns out that the knee op had to be cancelled due her high blood pressure and the weather was so god awful shite so we just didn't feel like going out at all.  Friday was also off work and the weather was a different story altogether, clear blue skies and a really tough round at the London Golf Club http://www.londongolf.co.uk/Golf/International.aspx  .

Ha no worries put it up whenever you go!

Not really alot to report to be honest as have been grinding my little nuts off at work and life!

The Restaurant has come to a bit of a standstill as we are a bit short on funding after having had to walk away from 2 investors after their demands meant we really wouldnt be able to work together so were punting around for other investors and got about enough money sorted to open the place before the landlords became a bit tired of waiting and started to show other people around (I'm sure they had been already) and intimated that they had a "national chain" interested so then wanted to hold off any further negotiation which meant another 3 weeks wait.

Having spent a load of time in this building there are not too many "Nationals" that I think would be interested that arent already in the town or fit the size of premises/layout so I was hopeful of getting a response and then I got the email saying they were happy to proceed so I started to round up the troops to find that 2 of them had had severe changes of circumstances (which I know to be true as they are linked in a different circle) and another had invested elsewhere due to the wait so as seems to be the case with this project whenver I have had the ££ the landlords have not been ready and when I havent had all the cash they are ready.

This has meant that we cannot take the gamble on the lease without having the investment so I proposed a different agreement on where we would have a 1 year break clause as well as the other breaks at years 3/5/7/1- and would pay year 1 upfront but wouldnt carry out any building work until we demostrated xxx amount of funding of which we have 60% and I would spend 6 months doing some local "Crowdfunding" events to sell %'s or use a website such as Crowdcube with our plan as locally this building provokes conversation and is used on literature all the time so in my ind it's easier to get 200 people locally to put up a grand to buy a small piece of a business and get some benefits from the business ie 10% off on food or a meal free for bigger investors on a monthly basis plus priority booking etc.

Basically a few of us were prepared to risk £20k total to give us 12 months to raise about £200k of which I am 100% confident we would do it which means there is no risk to the landlord in terms of touching the premises and they get one year upfront which considering they have now had the building empty for 1 year and have a very hefty mortgage on the building and will now be responsible for business rate you may think would be attractive but they have currently vetoed the idea.

So it's a case of playing a waiting game and I will chase them in 2 weeks time with the same offer as they are still not under offer! The sad thing is I 100% belive I am the right person to make this happen and get it open but need to prove that to them or win a chunk of money and put my nads on the line!

I thought I may have got the chance to win a chunk last night as whilst playing event one of my package for this weeks DTD deepstack week I decided to flick in the Big 11 and The Sunday Million now for those that know me they would know I maybe play 50 mtts per year on stars if that and may grind some cash on Sky  every now and again so would hardly be prolific in terms of volume and I reckon I have played the million less than 10 times lifetime and with 1000 left I was in about 750th and was trying to cash as had less than 15 bb's ofr about 2 hours then suddenly heatered and with 200 left was 7/200 and then I lost some and got them back and was 40/96 before making an average call for 12bbs with KJss in the bb and got rivered then lost AQ v A10 to leave me 4 bbs at 20kbb but pulled out a 2015 stop and go to a min open to dbl through and then got back to 500k before losing A10 v AQ me BB vs Btn for 10 bigs and eventually exited in 83rd jamming over an open with my final 12 bigs with K10hh and got looked by AJ which I outflopped but rivered myself 2pair and gave my oppo a straight so cashed for just under $1400.

This week sees me at DTD on Weds night for the HR and we made day2 of the main with 15 bigs having peaked at around 135k which I would have snap taken but couldnt kick on so will need a spin up on Saturday!

Sounds like it is a lot easier buying houses in essexshire to make money than opening food gaffs!!!  Sounds an absolute nightmare.  Hope you get it sorted.  I would be tempted to pull the plug tbh.

you might have already tried this route - but if you only need 200k in total - all main stream banks offer the small loan scheme which is underwritten by the gov - if you or your accountant have put together a strong business plan and you have say 20k capital to put in - the bank lends you 190k in way you can draw down providing you reach your targets - if it all goes belly up - the bank gets it money back from the gov

only problem is you need to nag the bank as they do not like promoting the scheme

Hi Mikey

Thanks for that and sorry it took me till now to respond to.

I will look into it further but have a feeling it may affect the SEIS/EIS tax breaks for other investors but will definitely check it out.

Deepstack Weekend

Well for me it started on the Weds with a drive up to Nottingham after work to play the high roller as part of a package I had sold in the live staking board and had already made day2 with 15 bigs from the first online leg so I really fancied the HR and definitely felt it may represent good value as I sincerely thought it would be rec heavy.

I was wrong as very few rec recs turned up to play after we had started so my table consisted of Eleanor Gudger, Nish Hindocha (circuit reg), Dan Charlton, Willie Tann who was replaced after a bb move by Warbs, Ben Vinson on his second bullet, Cambridge Al and Liam O'Brien.   In the £1k's I play I rarely feel like the value at the table and whilst I still just played my game I knew it was going to be tough.

Alex basically kept nicking by button from the hj and I only really had defendable hands so folded some and peeled others and then on my bb he was btn and he opened 90% and again I had really defendable bb hands (as most know I tend to defend pretty wide  Wink  ) and I tended to flop a piece and ended up calling one or 2 streets before folding as his bet sizing vs me and others tended to be pretty big which may or may not be an adjustment he makes in position against sticky players and in other lowlights I got turned or rivered vs Nish who turned out to be my nemesis all day in two pretty sizable pots one were we had 8x on 88J510 and he had turned house.

I managed to win 2 pots vs Liam both with houses in the first where I rivered a house on a 4 flushing board having peeled a co open otb with 88 and called down on 842hhh and put in a value raise on the river which he folded to and we chatted at the break as he asked me if I had it but he only had a Qhigh flush so folded.  So the next time I rivered a house (yeah yeah I know) when I opened 1010 utg and he peeled from the big and we saw a flop of 108Jcc which I led into and got called the turn bought a Queen iirc and I led small as a blockng type of bet to leave just over pot back but was prepared to check back loads or fold if we didnt house up and he again called to see an 8 river which he checked for a 3rd time and this time based on the other hand I over bet jammed the river which in many rec's cases is never a bluff but I do use it as a bluff too (not that Liam would know this just for the benefit of any readers obv) and after a dwell he called to get us back to 40k but a few hands later I lost one pot to Nish before my exit hand.

As exits go it was  pretty interesting hand and I think I made a bad river jam (without being results orientated but in game that split second it's different) as with 32k at the start of the hand and the blinds due to go 5/1000 in 5 mins I opened the button when folded to to 1800 with KJhh and Nish 3bet to 4900 which I called and we saw a 9910hh flop and he bet 3500 which was really small so I called and we saw in my eye what was the dream card of the Ah and he now checked to me but I had an awkward stack to pot ratio as now had 24k back and the pot only had 18k in it and i genuinely struggled to find a bet size but ended with 5800 which was called which really should have set alarm bells ringing and on a brock river he again checked and I put my remaining 18k in the pot and he just flicked in a 25 chip which I knew meant GG as he had AA for top boat.

As I walked to the toilet I knew I should have checked back as apart from AQ with the or AK every other hand that calls the turn is beating me and with no disrespect to Nish I dont think he will 3b too light from the BB and against someone like Alex then maybe I can still go for value so I chalked this down as a mistake to be learnt from.

As it goes if they do put on the deepstack this month then I think there will be more value in playing it with everyone in Vegas. So back to the hotel I went and with being due to see my brother on thursday I hung around the area and for those that red the staking thread will know I played 1a of Leicesters 25/25 and built a stack for Sunday which meant getting home at 5am on Friday morning in that early morning brightness that we now have and driving past the odd milkman (they do still have them in our town) it reminded me of the good/bad old days when you saw it as a result if you were seeing milkmen on the way home.  This also meant that I got into the house about an hour before Max was going to wake so he became my alarm clock at 6am and I was in the office at 8am as per usual and had a 4pm meeting so had to tough it out till 8pm when I fell asleep and woke ready to attack day 2 at Dusk
