Deepstack Weekend
Well for me it started on the Weds with a drive up to Nottingham after work to play the high roller as part of a package I had sold in the live staking board and had already made day2 with 15 bigs from the first online leg so I really fancied the HR and definitely felt it may represent good value as I sincerely thought it would be rec heavy.
I was wrong as very few rec recs turned up to play after we had started so my table consisted of Eleanor Gudger, Nish Hindocha (circuit reg), Dan Charlton, Willie Tann who was replaced after a bb move by Warbs, Ben Vinson on his second bullet, Cambridge Al and Liam O'Brien. In the £1k's I play I rarely feel like the value at the table and whilst I still just played my game I knew it was going to be tough.
Alex basically kept nicking by button from the hj and I only really had defendable hands so folded some and peeled others and then on my bb he was btn and he opened 90% and again I had really defendable bb hands (as most know I tend to defend pretty wide

) and I tended to flop a piece and ended up calling one or 2 streets before folding as his bet sizing vs me and others tended to be pretty big which may or may not be an adjustment he makes in position against sticky players and in other lowlights I got turned or rivered vs Nish who turned out to be my nemesis all day in two pretty sizable pots one were we had 8x on 88J510 and he had turned house.
I managed to win 2 pots vs Liam both with houses in the first where I rivered a house on a 4 flushing board having peeled a co open otb with 88 and called down on 842hhh

and put in a value raise on the river which he folded to and we chatted at the break as he asked me if I had it but he only had a Qhigh flush so folded. So the next time I rivered a house (yeah yeah I know) when I opened 1010 utg and he peeled from the big and we saw a flop of 108Jcc which I led into and got called the turn bought a Queen iirc and I led small as a blockng type of bet to leave just over pot back but was prepared to check back loads or fold if we didnt house up and he again called to see an 8 river which he checked for a 3rd time and this time based on the other hand I over bet jammed the river which in many rec's cases is never a bluff but I do use it as a bluff too (not that Liam would know this just for the benefit of any readers obv) and after a dwell he called to get us back to 40k but a few hands later I lost one pot to Nish before my exit hand.
As exits go it was pretty interesting hand and I think I made a bad river jam (without being results orientated but in game that split second it's different) as with 32k at the start of the hand and the blinds due to go 5/1000 in 5 mins I opened the button when folded to to 1800 with KJhh and Nish 3bet to 4900 which I called and we saw a 9910hh flop and he bet 3500 which was really small so I called and we saw in my eye what was the dream card of the Ah and he now checked to me but I had an awkward stack to pot ratio as now had 24k back and the pot only had 18k in it and i genuinely struggled to find a bet size but ended with 5800 which was called which really should have set alarm bells ringing and on a brock river he again checked and I put my remaining 18k in the pot and he just flicked in a 25 chip which I knew meant GG as he had AA for top boat.
As I walked to the toilet I knew I should have checked back as apart from AQ with the

or AK every other hand that calls the turn is beating me and with no disrespect to Nish I dont think he will 3b too light from the BB and against someone like Alex then maybe I can still go for value so I chalked this down as a mistake to be learnt from.
As it goes if they do put on the deepstack this month then I think there will be more value in playing it with everyone in Vegas. So back to the hotel I went and with being due to see my brother on thursday I hung around the area and for those that red the staking thread will know I played 1a of Leicesters 25/25 and built a stack for Sunday which meant getting home at 5am on Friday morning in that early morning brightness that we now have and driving past the odd milkman (they do still have them in our town) it reminded me of the good/bad old days when you saw it as a result if you were seeing milkmen on the way home. This also meant that I got into the house about an hour before Max was going to wake so he became my alarm clock at 6am and I was in the office at 8am as per usual and had a 4pm meeting so had to tough it out till 8pm when I fell asleep and woke ready to attack day 2 at Dusk
