As I'm a newbie on this, does anyone have time to work out what the playoff picture would look like as things stand right now?
The divisional winners all go through right? But I assume some of them have to play the wildcards. Are the wildcards simply the non-divisional winners with the best win/loss records? Can 2 come from the same divison?
I have an outright bet on Atlanta - are they likely to go through?
Cheers in advance!
4 division winners from the NFC, 4 from the AFC all make the playoffs (these are ranked 1-4 based on their record)
The 2 teams with the next best record in both the NFC and the AFC also make it, these are ranked 5 and 6.
Teams 1 and 2 from each side have a bye week, whilst teams 3 play team 6, and team 4 play team 5, the winners of those games will play teams 1 and 2. (with team 1 playing the worst ranked team).
Currently Atlanta (8-5) are IN but likely need to maintain a record as good as the Lions (also 8-5) and the Cowboys (currently 7-6) to gaurentee a wildcard spot.
The teams with the better ranking play the tie at home. (the superbowl is played at a neutral ground, Indianapolis this year)
