Easy night for Jon Jones tonight?
Sadly I expect so.
Hard as I find it to get behind Dan Henderson, who I've thoroughly disliked since the whole TUF / Bisping thing, I'd love to see him derail the Jones hype train.

Can't see it though Sad

Lolwot? Fight/event is off. Plus it was never meant to be tonight.

I understand they canceled the full event. That seemed a bit drastic as there was a lot of fights in the undercard. All the months of training all those fighters must have under gone will be so frustrating. I appreciate Jones was the main event but why cancel the lot?

The fans must be devastated. Looking at the rest of the card, there definitely wasn't another main event fight, with some of them even debatable co-main fights. I still think the fans would rather see some fights rather than none, regardless of the main event being scrapped. You buy tickets knowing fine well that fights are never 100% until they step in the cage.

A number of the other fighters have shown their displeasure: Brenneman tweeted something to Jones about how his bills needed paid. I'm the sure the UFC will have sorted anyone out who required it, they're good like that.

A good few of the fights have been rescheduled for the rest of September as well as October.

That right Jones turned down Sonnen as a replacement?

Yeah, they got offered Sonnen but turned it down - Dana aint too happy with Greg Jackson as it seems he played a big part in Jones turning down the fight. They then announced Jones/Machida 2 at 152 but that was before Machida had even agreed. He wanted more time to prepare. So we've got Belfort.

Ah. Well that's a win / win for Jesus then, who'll get the credit for what ever result we end up with.

Lol at the stream of middle weights who'd rather pack on the pounds and face Jones than continue to queue up to lose to Silva.

yep, 1st time any champion has turned down a fight and subsequently 1st time ufc have cancelled a card..... dislike jackson/jones with every thing they do or i hear about them

sonnen has so much heart to step in with jones on short notice, smart thing to do for his career after the anderson thing, but still shows lots of heart.

Frankie Edgar replaces Erik Koch at UFC 153 and faces Jose Aldo. Exciting fight but is this the first title shot given to someone coming off the back of a loss, never mind two losses???

although it seems bad on the face of it, the closeness of the fights with hendo wouldnt be discrediting losses, i thought he won the 2nd fight 48-47.... but anyways should be an amazing fight

I scored it 48-47 Edgar too.

A close loss is still a loss. Think it's first time someone has fought for title coming off a loss when the title fight isn't a rematch - as in Edgar also just fought for the title coming off a loss, but it was a rematch.

yeh def unusual, but should be an amazing display of striking .... will be interesting to find out who is better at that aspect. plus its not like he got gifted a title shot but he filled in as a replacement.

I'm sure if they thought the card was strong enough they would have kept it alive, especially given the money they've already spent on promotion and whatnot. The problem is that they have so many events these days that the cards have gotten weaker, and rely solely on a main event, and if that main event goes tits up, the event goes down the hole because there isn't enough interest in the undercard.

This didn't used to be the case, which is a shame, as those fighters now lose out on a payday (or, at least, will have to wait) because of one man's decision to not accept a gift-wrapped fight against a fighter who has even less preparation, and is nowhere near the calibre required to truly concern Jones. Even if he did lose, the rematch would make him a lot more money than his next match if he'd have accepted and won, so it's kind of a win-win situation.

Still, I guess it saves UFC 152 from being a flop.

Fight isn't judged on those "significant strikes" stats though.
I only gave Henderson 1 round.
Take downs, octagon control, aggression was all Frankie for my money.

Hope he terrorises 145

Also hope someone Knocks Henderson off his perch ASAP.
rubs me up the wrong way

Oh sorry, I forgot my post said that the fight was scored on significant strikes. Plus I'm not only talking about significant strikes, there are other statistics available other than the ones they chuck on the screen on fight night.
