Starting weight: 14st 8lb.
Current weight: 14st 4½lb.
Loss this week:  3½lb.

It should have been more because it was my first week, but I've been away to a place where I was was forced to eat pies and cake.  Wink

I've been going OK this week but had a little set back today.

My son-in-law Harry, who is the Arfur Daley of all things edible, brought back some home cured bacon and my daughter insisted on doing me a sandwich.

I would have said no, but I didn't want to hurt her feelings.

Perhaps the best part this time was there were no fad diets, no real diet at all really, just making healthier choices at meal times and not eating late at night as often as I used to.

I'm very much taken by the healthier choices thing. I like the idea of making a change for life rather that going on a diet.

This week I've chosen well for the majority of the time, but when I haven't I've done it with my eyes open rather than because I couldn't resist. I think resisting everything would make me miserable and doom me to failure, either in reaching my goal weight or maintaining it.

This week I've had a home-cured bacon sandwich, and attended a wedding and a barbecue.

I'll be happy not to have gained at tomorrow's weigh in.

Perhaps the best part this time was there were no fad diets, no real diet at all really, just making healthier choices at meal times and not eating late at night as often as I used to.

This is so crucial. This is what it's all about.

I've recently seen some of my friends from school who have done what a lot of people my age do; they eat everything they see because when you're in your early 20's you can get away with it and then BAM! You're 25 now, you need to look after your cholesterol, your insulin, you need to choke back the occasional salad, and you need to move around a bit. Now what they want to do is hit a magic "REVERSE" button. They piled all this weight on without realising, and now they want to quickly get back to being trim.

"28 days to a leaner you!"

"Get ripped in 4 weeks"

"Take this juice diet"

Holy shit. I even saw someone selling meal replacement shakes to other people in bulk so that they can sell to other people in bulk. Pyramid schemes, artificial ingredients, deluded young girls. It's horrible to watch. This one girl posted her progress pictures, and granted she's lost plenty of weight over a few months. But guess what? She would have done that without this nutjob meal replacement fad. She was massive; she would have lost the weight she did just by taking a 30 minute walk every day and cutting out the soda.

This was supposed to be a short post, but I guess this stuff just incenses me!

This is not about "being thin," this is about "making good lifestyle decisions."

Drink water, eat smart, move around. Simplicity. Smiley

For everyone who wants long term fat loss and a healthy and happy life. That pretty much sums it up, well said mate.

Talk to me about water, please.

I've often heard it said it is good for us, but is that a fact, a myth, or a bit of both?

I currently consume, daily, approx 3 Coffee Lattes, 2 cups of tea, & 2 "Cup-A-Soup" things. I also sip, mostly at night, Lemon & Lime flavoured water (sugar free). Food intake is Ryvitas, Philli Lite, fresh tomatoes & fresh fruit, mainly grapes & strawberries.

I can't really drink "plain" water, though at a push I can manage sparkling water if it is ice-cold. Is it ok to add a dash of lemon, or flavouring, to pep it up a bit?

My health is fine, physical & mental, but I do sense some lethargy, & constant fatigue. Don't sleep too well these days either.

I am currently overweight, as per normal, but not excessively so. I am presently 13-7, my lowest normal weight is 12-7, & my highest weight is 14-7 or 15, so I'm mid-range at present.

Thanks.

All the liquid you consume is 99% water.

All this "You must drink 10 gallons a day" malarkey is cobblers, I mean, whales drink all day and they are nearly extinct FFS!

IMO of course.

The key thing is that decent daily water consumption has zero calories.  If you sub all drinks for water depending on your usual intake mix of drinks you can maybe strip 500/600 calories a day from your totals which in turn obviously makes losing weight easier esp if you have sugar in tea/coffee, drink fruit juices and fizzy drinks.

I don't use sugar when dieting, which is 50% of the year, or drink "fizzy drinks" as in "pop", cola, that sort of shite.
