i appreciate that but a lot of people don't realise how much sugar/calories they are consuming daily just in their drinks.

Yes, & I appreciate the steer.

It's just that I keep hearing "drink lots of water, it's the elixir of life", & I'm just looking for some substance to that.

I almost never accept things at face value, I always challenge stuff like that. I am pretty sure it's a good thing - water - but I just need something to help me understand why.

I'm genuinely keen to know more about it. For instance, if I drink water with added Lemon & Lime (allegedly "Sugar Free") to give it a bit of zip & make it drinkable, is that almost as good as pure but boring water? Does it have to be bottled water, or is tap water as good, or worse?

I am THAT close to trying it, but water tastes so damn dull. And drinking nice stuff is one of life's great pleasures, right?

Bottled/tap water is fine for health reasons.  Makes no difference which you choose.  There are numerous articles on the benefits of water.  You should give it a go for a couple of weeks and see if you notice a difference.  I have never drunk tea/coffee in my life so i am used to just drinking water/fruit juice mainly on a day to day basis but since the diet commenced i have just reduced it to water only around 5/6 litres a day (with the occasional beer to keep things balanced at the weekend!).  I would imagine someone like yourself might notice a relative big difference as your water intake seems relatively low and your body may have adjusted to this over time.

5 LITRES A DAY?

That's like a gallon, right?

Are you serious?

I'd be up all night.

Yes deadly serious.  I have a 2 litre water bottle which i sip from all day at home whilst i work and refill it twice a day.  A lot of people think it's odd but ever since my serious training days when you are forced to consume large amounts of water i have always kept up this volume.  I assume it's not bad for me.  The only problem i see is that it means when i go out boozing i have the ability to consume large volumes of beer because of my practice with water on a daily basis.  If for whatever reason i am out of the house doing stuff during the day and find it hard to consume water i do feel sluggish and can feel the difference.

See, there's the thing, I DO feel sluggish & lethargic, so thats why I'm looking at this water lark.

Having said that, I could just never manage 5 litres a day of anything, never mind water.

i appreciate my consumption is excessive however start with 1.5 litres a day and sip rather than try and drink in big gulps during the course of the day.  If you get into the habit of doing this daily during work/at your desk etc i would be amazed if you don't feel better after a couple of weeks.

5 litres? I'd need to relocate my office to the gents.

I don't do tea or coffee so get through 1 to 2 litres of fizzy drinks a day - always zero sugar versions.

Same here, I could never manage that much.

To be fair, it's all relative, & arbboy is quite a big chap, rather like Red-Dog I suppose, so to people like them it is not much, & is just like 2 or 3 litres to me, as we are far more petite.

That's the advantage of working from home i suppose.  The disadvantage is the Fridge is also only 4 steps away from my desk hence why i am on this thread in the first place!

Drinking 7-14 litres of fizzy drinks would worry me slightly even if it's sugar free because there is still excessive amounts of artificial sweeteners/colours etc in those drinks.

You could try stopping smoking, or moving on to one of those lectric fags. I bet that would liven you up more than drinking 5 gallons of water.

How do you know I still smoke?

I may have packed up smoking before I went to Vegas.

I think this is probably another reason why you feel sluggish.  I have never smoked in my life but getting you to stop smoking is probably as likely as stopping me having another beer!
