I was one of the 'bowl cats', so am out the back in the cheap seats!
I've got some friends who decided to hold off for the sale, rather than go through the rigmarole of buying miles, and then changing them up to buy a flight.

United prices are by far the best this summer. Everyone else is basically taking the piss.
17 hour flight time?
No sirree, flight times perfect for me. Short hop in from San Fran going out. Don't mind that to save £300. Can't eat value etc.

Found out today that you can get a Virgin flight from McCarran to Gatwick that is an overnight jobbie. I know BA does one to Heathrow but now you can get a Virgin one, too. Apologies if that's common knowledge!
Overnight flights home are the nuts. You're pooped and are facing monstrous jetlag, possibly with a drive home or at least a journey back. Having some shut-eye helps put a dent in the gruesome consequences of a holiday in Sin City and the time zone wonkiness.
Obv if you can also get an upgrade to Upper/Business and a lie-flat bed, all the better. Got that once with BA. The lady came round with the dinner:
"Fillet steak or guinea fowl, sir?"

Sigh...all the flights back to the UK from Vegas are overnight jobbies.
In fact nearly all the flights from the US to UK are generally overnighters cos of the timezones. The only ones that arent tend to be from JFK, leave at 8am in the morning and land at Heathrow at 8pm that night - they only take 6hrs.
I was lucky enough to fly Busines class on BA once as well as Tal described above -

Well, I know that they're all 18 hour equivalents, so there's darkness in every flight, but flying in the evening from McCarran means you can go to sleep roughly when it's normal to do so.
That menu was real btw. Those were the two main course options. No idea what the veggie one was. I just heard "Would you like a meat you've never eaten before, sir?" and the poker losses all seemed to be a distant emotional mirage.

Indeed Tal
As Adam stated though, all direct flight to the UK leave Vegas late afternoon and fly overnight

BA actually have a night flight that leaves at about 9pm.
I got it back in 2011, and I definitely wouldn't want to do it again. You have all day, so it's tempting to start drinking, but you daren't get messy before the flight.

Can't be accused of after-timing when I told you how to do it when the promo was running!
Poker players generally enjoy a nice freedom, waking up, deciding to sneeze and go back to bed, or get up and do something, play poker sometimes, or just head to the airport. A very good perk it is too, but unfortunately when it comes to Vegas, the luxury of doing things last minute comes at a premium. As in premium cost, not premium class, you understand.
For those still getting the lot playing, I don't suppose it matters too much and the freedom is better than the extra few hundred. But for those that have forgotten how to win, or otherwise on a budget, then planning ftw.
