If they don't have to be exact, might be worth going out a week later, and doing it that way.

From a quick scan through, tt's much cheaper if you want rooms 25th-5th

Even the lower end properties are quite ridic for that first period.

Has anyone stayed at the Vdara before?  Figured the Wynn was going to cost me near £200 a night after fee.  The venetian and Bellagio aren't far off. I managed to pick up the Vdara for £104 a night plus fees including 2 weekends, which wasn't much more than the Rio and palms place. I did read the reviews and pretty much every recent one for the Rio is stinking, the ones for the Vdara are pretty much all glowing?  It looks like a Taxi to the Rio should be pretty quick and the aria is next door.  Plus from what I read the whole property seems to be smoke free.

So why is it so much cheaper than the rest?

Pretty sure Simon Galloway has stayed there, and rates it pretty highly.

Cheaper due to lack of casino maybe?

I'm booked in at the Monte Carlo for a couple of nights in August.  We're going on quality of pool with a balance of not being rammed.  Stupidly left it too late to book MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay's pool is v v busy apparently.  Hopefully MC will be OK.   May look again for rooms at MGM just in case there has been a cancellation.....................just if anyone cares Cheesy

I've just come back from the MC and there is a reason their pool is not consistently rammed - there's always half of it in shade, which moves throughout the day. On the plus side the entrance is just beside the lifts from the rooms, so it's no big trek (like the MGM is).

Cheers Andrew, don't mind the shade so much - it may be a welcome break in the heat of the middle of August.

Was it a nice enough hotel?

Amazing. Loved the place. Basic room was excellent, all suites IIRC.

Generally cheaper because it has no casino and is set behind ARIA/Cosmo, so you have to walk through them to get to the Strip. There's an easy walkway through to Bellagio as well.

Spent a night at MC last time I went out non-WSOP. It was nice, rooms were good, but it was a bit boring.

Would stay there over MGM though for walking distances to rooms alone, plus the tram to ARIA should you want to get more action!

Stayed in Vdara twice. Superb value for money. Lovely not to have a lobby ringing with slot machine noise. You get a shop and a Starbucks instead.

Getting a kitchen and (if you don't have a basic room - $20 trick, ahem) a washing machine and drier is lovely. Can head to wallgreens next to Monte Carlo and stock up on basics for the fridge and bread etc to save yourself a fortune.

Immaculately clean, lots of bang for your buck and ideally placed between Aria and Bellagio.

First place I look for now.

Is it worth moving from MC to Vdara?  Seem to be similar prices.  Is the pool decent at Vdara?  Imagine yourself as a 12 year old girl, which would you prefer?

The MC is fine though they're doing building work for the new concert hall (so it's down at least one cafe that used to be there).
