A pal of mine just won $2,500 on a Progressive Jackpot at a Table Game in Vegas, Palazzo I think, & he says the Venue are deducting 30% Tax.
That can't be right, can it?

It is right if he hasn't got an ITIN and they aren't helping him fill one in. slot limits are lower than poker limits as far as I know.

Think he is stuffed, as the agent will take a lot out. Ask him to try and get help from the poker desk at the Venetian. They might be set up to help given the deepstack festival is on, though I'd go when they are quiet and not when there is a 2 hour alternate list.
BTW The deepstack festival is back in the casino and not in the aircraft hanger.

I never knew that, I assumed it was $10,000, same as poker.
It was at Linq, and they refused to help.

Glad it's back in the cardroom proper, though it's a bit worrying as we have our SPT at Venetian this Sunday, and they usually give us exclusive use of that sort of little area in front of the cage. Looks like it might get a bit cosy.

Poker is $5,000, and slots is $1,200.
Linq I've no experience with, but makes sense now I know it's not Palazzo.

hmm, I never realised slots limits were lower than it is for poker.
Does he have losses at the slots to offset against the win and lower the tax hit

too late now, but would the best strat be to burn the additional for comps? Maybe not the best strat at the Linq, but could be at the Wynn or Palazzo?

When you bink over 1.2k in a spin, it triggers a 'call attendant' alarm, and they come to sort it out there and then.

Said he should try having a word in the poker room to see if they'll do him one up.
Failing that, I'd wander over to the H/L lounge and wave $50 about and see what that does. No dice, go back again on a different shift with $100. I'm sure someone will help.

Asking for a friend!! The Tikay staking thread has finally taken off!! Wish I'd taken a piece now
Everyone has replied "slots" but you clearly state table game. The progressive jackpot is the only element that throws any doubt on things, if that is somehow treated differently. At a craps table, just purely as a random example ofc, you can definitely be paid out $2500 in chips with no issue.

Hi Simon,
I saw the chap last night to clarify what's what. I was certainly surprised at first, as he did not strike me as a slots player by nature.
It was some form of three card (?) poker House Game, & he hit a Progressive Jackpot.
