Back from the allotment, bit more time to delve into it...

~ £1150 is your ready reckoner for the cost of the flight... now to the hotel Smiley

I assume you will be @ Rio, if you are doing the Sky gig, but if not, ofc just replace 'Rio' with your chosen hotel.  In which case... enter Marky as now you can compare £1150 + the cost of the Rio with whatever 3rd party packages are out there... all you need are dates.

Thanks Simon.

I would work on the assumption that I will not get the Sky gig this year, as I have not heard any Vegas mutterings.

I still like using the Rio Media Centre though, so I was deffo considering staying at Gold Coast, which is only a 3 mile walk from The Rio.

If I go, I'll be playing Downtown a lot, I assume, so I'd consider that, too.

Think Gold Coast, or similar, is probably the most sensible for me. I'm really not at all fussy about my room-quality in Vegas, as I only use it to sleep, I rarely spend any other time in my room.

It's unliikely, but if I had my way, I'd go for the whole 5 or 6 weeks this year, so 40 or so nights merans if I only save $25 per night, it adds up to the entry of a $1,000 Tourney.

Playing downtown is an incredible experience. You play at Binion's and look at the festival schedule:

2pm $100 Stud
4pm $5 Bingo
6pm Countdown and Paul O'Grady
7pm Nap time
8pm $200 Stud 8 or Better

I love Downtown more with every passing year. The place has amazing vibes.

Happy to scout around when you are in a position to be semi-firm on dates.  It won't take too much doing, as there aren't many options downtown.  (assuming running hot water is a requirement...)  Toss in the Gold Coast and Rio, maybe a wild card somewhere.. pretty sure we can save you $25/night.

There's a new hotel downtown, the downtowngrand.  A short stroll away from the canopy of Fremont Street (which is not normally recommended) I think it is just past the Gold Spike.  I'd be interested to hear reports if anyone has been recently and checked it out.

Thanks Simon.

I'm sort of thinking Gold Coast might be the right answer for me this year.

Cheap, cheerful, clean, got some coffee bars & cafes, walking distance to The Rio (just....) that's about all I need.

If you're not going out with Sky, I presume you'll spend most of your time flitting between the Nugget and Binions playing.

Staying at the Gold Coast, so that you can  use the media room at the Rio works for savings in that respect. However, you'll do your brains on cabs back and forwards to Fremont.

I would think that the best play is to stay at the Nugget or 4 Queens, and then just cab to the Rio as required.

Alternatively, you could get a motor and drive yourself around?

BeeeJay is a guy who used to post his trip reports on 2p2, and still does on the VMB.

He had this to say about it late last year

Hey guys---

Just wanted to follow up on my earlier Downtown Grand rantings.

Borat and I took the time to give the place a walk thru on Friday night during prime time and in the interest of fairness, it was super nice. It seemed pretty busy but didn't feel like much "action" in comparison to the FSE places.

It kinda reminds me of Encore, not in design, but in the approach maybe. Boring half-empty casino full of higher-end clientelle (at least for downtown) and guessing they'll just mint their money off their huge pool-deck parties.

I finally get it. They are shooting for the downtown version of the dbag party-pool crowd from Encore Beach Club, Cosmo Marquee, Rehab @ Hard Rock, etc.

I can defnitely see that kind of Hipster crowd donning their fedoras in this place, and truth be told, I really hope it succeeds in pulling that crowd so that I don't have to deal with them at those other places!

Looked to book rooms here, didn't appear too good value for downtown and main hotel part is the "Lady Luck" which has been refurbed (it needed it!). Stay at Gold Spike normally but the hotel part shut Easter 2013 and the main "Casino" bit now is a bar and "chill out" area whatever the f*** that is Cheesy

Looks like Main Street Station for my next trip.

I posted what one of the other guys thought about DTG, but will probably have a look myself when I attempt to get to the Triple George Grill for what will be the 3rd year running.

What are your dates?

I've got 1/2 hour spare now, so will give it a spin for you.

Nice long trip!

I've managed 15 nights at the nugget for £30 a day this summer, but that was just blind luck that I spotted a 1 day sale an hour before it expired.

Yes long time. I hate going for 7 days as used to find flights most expensive element.

For this trip days might need rejigging as first week in March is a lot pricier than other weeks . (Is something big on that week? College hoops?).

Flights coming out at £211.37 each direct with air miles, though as I need 63000+ for two flights and I have 53K miles my mate 23K Im guessing he transfers 10K to me and I book it on my miles. Will be doing all the boking over this weekend.

I've never gone for less than 2 weeks myself,

20 nights at the D with booking.com for £560 + 13% tax and $400 in resort fees.

20 nights at El Cortez for £558 or £650 for a room with 2 large doubles + 13% tax

Yeah, they're both with booking.com

El Cortez is at the opposite end of Fremont to the Plaza, so a decent walk down.

I know that it's quite popular with the Americans though, because it is cheap for what it is.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the D is very, very loud!
