Is the longhorn room not what was previously referred to as Benny's Bullpen ?

The significance of which (for those that weren't playing poker 10+ years ago) is that is where the WSOP used to be spread.  With a few satellites running downstairs.  Little bit of a contrast to the Rio...

No. The room in that photo is exactly the same size as the Amazon Room. They just have bigger tables and chairs.

Correct, this photo was during the 2003 WSOP.

Is that Red-Dog leaning on the rail, in the left foreground, with his back to the camera?

1/50 that's a non-holdem game, even in 2003

So better than last year, then?!

!

For those not familiar, Binions moved their Poker Room upstairs last year. It was accessed via various back staircases, & endless, long-abandoned & deserted corridors, which eventually took you to the Tourney Room.

The Room was completely unfirnished, & bare, nothing in it at all, though it had the bonus, oh-so rare in Vegas, of no music or slots, so it was at least peaceful & quiet.

The Bathrooms were immediately adjacent the room, but were a perfect health hazard, quite disgusting really.

The famous Binions Cash Room was still there, though, downstairs, & seemed to have quite a nice atmo.

No idea where this new Tourney Room will be, though 10 Tables suggests it is fairly small.

Or you could just take the elevator upstairs, and walk around the corner to the cardroom Wink

I actually liked that tourney room upstairs, it had a small bar with food available, too.

As you said, it was nice to play without the 'ding ding ding' every 5 seconds, and things were nicely spaced out.

It's a shame that this year their series finishes a couple days after I arrive, so I may have to test the batteries and head to the strip for some tournaments...

bit of important info for those that stay downtown :  am at the Plaza myself.  Reckon i might be having to shoot off to the chinese laundry to wash my sheets and towels!!   Room only could really mean Room Only!!!

Union members working without a contract for nearly a year say they’ll strike at nine downtown casinos beginning June 1.

In a news released posted today, the Culinary and Bartenders Unions said its restaurant workers, hotel housekeepers, cocktail servers, bartenders and other members would walk off the job at 5 a.m. June 1 and start round-the-clock picketing of the nine downtown casinos where they don’t have a contract.

The targeted casinos are: The D, Four Queens, Binion’s, Fremont, Main Street Station, Plaza, Las Vegas Club, El Cortez and Golden Gate.

A strike would last until a contract settlement is reached with the properties, the unions said.

“For nearly 80 years, our unions have made casino jobs good jobs in Las Vegas,” said Geoconda Arguello-Kline, leader of the Culinary Union. “Our members downtown deserve to earn a decent living by working hard under a fair contract. They should not be left behind as hundreds of millions of new investments pour

Members authorized a strike in a vote March 27.

Union officials said Monday a majority of the 3,000 union members at the nine casinos along the Fremont Street Experience have signed up for strike benefits and picket line shifts.

The Golden Nugget is the lone downtown casino to have settled on a contract with the unions. Culinary Union spokeswoman Bethany Khan said that five-year contract, ratified by members earlier this month, was retroactive to the previous contract with the Golden Nugget that ended in June 2013.

Culinary Workers Local 226 and Bartenders Local 165 represent over 55,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, including at most casinos on the Strip and in downtown.

The last Culinary strike happened in 1984 and represented the largest in Las Vegas history. More than 17,000 workers protested 32 Strip resorts. Culinary leaders had carved out contracts with owners of 15 properties but couldn't reach an agreement with the others.

The strike ended nine months later when police arrested 900 picketers and six casinos severed their union ties. Though the dissolved relationships cost union members more than $70 million in lost wages and benefits, the Culinary saw the strike as a major victory.

Yeah trying to decide whether to cancel booking and rebook elsewhere.    Only reason go to plaza is that the rooms are good.  Casino itself is a dump.

Booked with expedia who seem to have horror stories about waiting months for refunds.

Anyone gt any good experiences about getting cancellation refunds off expedia reasonably quickly (ie 2-3 weeks rather than 3 months or so which a lot seem to experience) ?
