I always find that cash is an issue to get back to the UK, but not for the reasons you're obviously thinking of...

Plenty of juicy tales behind that statement, I'll bet...

You can take as much as you want out, but just make sure that you declare it.

If you cash in a WSOP event, there are staff who will go through the process of filling in the forms to ensure you get your ITIN number.

I took mine in cash, but there are plenty here who have won sums large enough to warrant payment in other ways.

I always find that cash is an issue to get back to the UK, but not for the reasons you're obviously thinking of...

Cheers mate.

So it's ok to sort out the ITIN with staff once I've cashed my first event (if I do cash one that is). Is it an instant thing or do I have to wait a while before I get my winnings?

There really should be no problems taking like £30k plus through airport security stuffed in my pocket? Transferring at Newark which I'm guessing might be a bit more of an issue than if I was flying direct to Vegas..

Assuming the staff are willing they were last year at the rio. They will sort it out for you when you go to collect your winnings about a 10 minute form filling and then you get the lot nothing withheld.

The only issue you will get is if you try and conceal the fact you have 30k on you. Just be honest say you are going to wsop, you might get the Spanish Inquisition at us immigration but they are like that. It should be no problem in the end.

first time i went i took $25k in cash and the guy said to me at vegas airport on declaring it 'we won't care how much you bring as long as you tell us on the way in'  There will literally be hundreds of people bringing $20-100k in cash into vegas during the next few weeks so although it seems pretty crazy they will have seen it all before.

I think it's definitely worth taking bank statements to back up how you paid for the USD if this is possible esp if you ain't flying direct to vegas.  Don't be a nit next time if you are going to vegas with $30k in cash to punt you really should be flying direct.  It's a lot easier.

You could wire transfer it to the rio or to the casino you are staying at ??

You may get a room upgrade ??

Taking bank statements is a very good habit.  The MAXIMUM hassle you can get is to fill a form in, have a 1 minute conversation, show the bank statements on request.  Why? Because you simply aren't doing anything wrong, so you can relax about it.  If you are super nervous and twitchy, they may start to wonder...

For wiring, do not wire it to the hotel you are staying (unless you are staying at Rio) - they will not be happy when you bowl up and ask to take the lot out ~ they will almost certainly make you take out markers in the pit for it and then you will get a lot of grief for not showing them any action with it.  Giving the check-in clerk $20 and a smile is more likely to get you an upgrade than wiring money to the cage.  Unless the wire is humongous (and $30k is small fry for this) no-one will even notice (unless you are staying at El Cortez..) and will be "reviewing your play" rather than comping anything up front.

Only have one experience of wiring money to the Rio, and it wasn't good...

In fact, I seem to remember someone else having problems too, and would guess that it's probably easier to wire money to the El Cortez Smiley

What  no one has mentioned is you may get stopped leaving the UK with 30 grand , they may ask you to prove where you got it from. Bank statements etc are a good idea.
p.s this happened to a friend of mine when we were going to vegas a few years ago. Also flying indirect to vegas is not as easy to take large sums of money into the US
