Oh god, the first year of the GUKPT where play could not start until after 4pm for some reason, and you had to be in your seat before the first hand.
From memory in year 2, which I think was 2007, late reg began.
It wasn't all bad.
When I first started playing there was a cap of £25 maximum entry fee to buy in to a tournament. I remember the Vic's first ever 5k event was £5000+25 (plus a free player'as buffet!)

GUKPTs were 1000+60 or 1000+70 for a long time when I was playing them. Now it is more than double that and do they still take an extra 2% to pay to the leaderboard for those that play most of them?
You probably still get a better ROI than in all the turbo bounty hunters on Stars, and they seem more popular than ever.

Vegas seemed as busy as ever at our casino ,southpoint
Mainly due to a bmx event a horse show a kids gymnastics event and veterans bowling
But elsewhere was notably quieter
Bellagio poker room was 50% in use
Southpoint poker was busy as they have a clock up 100 hrs live play on cash in January n February to get in a $300 k free roll tourney
It was quieter in the silverton on a Thursday evening ,great steak in twin creeks steakhouse though
Circa downtown was spectacular but also quiet Wednesday daytime
Mask wearing is strictly enforced everywhere
What shocked me the most was Maccaran airport in the process of now being renamed Harry Reid airport ,it was almost deserted ,on our return flight which was 2050 but we arrived at 1630 to check in and almost all desks were closed ,with no queue whatsoever at security,
once through security all the food outlets ,bar ,Carl Reid burger ,Starbucks ,Hudson newsagents , Pandora were all closed to the left of security covering gates E1-E5 ,Pandora even looked as if the Shelves had been stripped ,
There were a few outlets open to the right hand side of security but whilst there only two flights left .one to Mexico one to Denver
The barman explained that pilots and aircrew were all phoning in with covid and flights were struggling to fly
The barman also charged $75 for 3 pints Stella n 2 large gin n tonics $80 really inc tip

Just got back , stayed 23 jan - 10th feb
Vegas was very busy long lists for cash games , stayed at Bellagio most nights only about 3 or 4 empty tables , very busy
Venetian cash was very popular ,due to promotion running daily , tournaments were VERY busy .
Very strict on mask wearing , just my luck as soon as I get home they have dropped mask mandate.
there are still a lot of restaurants , buffets and shops that are closed or open part time.
bellagio buffet closes at 3pm
Wynn buffet only open weekends , ect
still had a great time , can't wait to go back when its all fully open again

I did buy some and have managed to wrestle some dates - but fair warning that it is getting harder and harder to get PE and nearly impossible in UC it seems, so definitely play around with dates before buying 200k miles!
Depending on regular cost of economy, availability seems reasonable this summer for reward seats unless you have zero flexibility.

Got my dates/flights through from Redtooth for my latest trip to Vegas with them, leaving Heathrow on May 18th (won it in September 2019, was supposed to go in May 2020!) and unfortunately my mate and I have got a four hour stopover at LAX on the way. Annoying as was supposed to be a direct flight as usual but apparently the one from Gatwick on May 19th was cancelled. Always flown direct before - has anyone done the LAX stopover? Is there anything to do nearby or will it just be a case of sitting in the hotel bar for four hours?

Have been through LAX a long time ago, am sure there was more to it than Vegas. It isn't far from the sea, so would be pretty tempted to go for a paddle and beer by the sea. Might be gambling with taxis though. LA weather in May can be pretty foggy off the sea, so it might not be how you dreamed it.

Honestly, every time I've gone through LAX, the queues to get through security have been horrendous and at least an hour/hour and a half. By the time you get through those, unless you are on a through ticket, you'll have to check back in again, and if you're on a through ticket, you might not be able to leave the airport.
