Why don't u get a job then? Would u honestly advise yourself not to turn pro 3 years ago if you knew what u know now?

I'm not saying JB or anyone will instantly love being pro or have just the upsides etc I'm jut saying he should give it a go if it's something he wants to do.
I seem to remember a Greek policeman quitting his job and moving to Thailand to grind poker with 4 cards. Would be interesting to get his viewpoint on this

I'm not sure everyone on the outside thinks it's the nut life. It certainly seems to be a case of "a hard way to make an easy living" - or whatever the quote is. Playing recreationally is fun, a hobby that earns you some money - brilliant! Playing full-time and relying on it to pay the bills and worrying if you're on a down-swing, etc., doesn't sound like too much fun to me.
There are obviously some who can do it, and do it well. But I'm sure there are many who find the grind...well, a grind.

Agree with what you're saying Boshi. Just think sometimes you need to experience sit for yourself. Maybe John needs to have his shot at being a pro. ESP if he can take a sabbatical.

If he has the luxury of being able to do that, I would say give it a spin to see the coup. However, I'd be highly surprised if he extended the sabbatical
I am doing some guesswork, but I don't envisage that careers like his are the kind that you just float in to.

If I knew what I knew now? Meh, no probably not. But I've been really lucky to have done as well as I have, and I haven't even done THAT well, nor am I rolling in money or even remotely "secure" for the next few years.
If there were 10 parallel universes then I reckon in 2 of them I'd have gone broke in year 1 and had to go back to uni or get a shit job, 2 of them I'd have struggled in year 1, gone broke in year 2, and in the rest I'd be struggling along, probably staked fulltime, or playing small stakes on my own, with a <10k roll.
I've had a 9-5 job for about 4 months during my gap year when saving up - and I honestly don't remember it being that bad. I remember just living for the weekend and evenings, and it was alright. And that was doing something boring and unstimulating with no promotion potential etc. Obviously 4months is nothing, and I'm sure people will say "you've no idea what it's like" but it's the same the other way around. Partime players have no idea what it's like to have poker as a fulltime job sometimes. Highs so high, lows so low etc, emotional swings just horrible to deal with. And most pros would say I have no idea what its like to actually run bad lol!
