It's hard to justify backing a 21year old to win when they are in their first season on the US tour and have not yet won on it. As he was also 2nd favourite it did seem a bad price, not bad enough to stop me having a bit on him though. I am inclined to think he is a bit of a birdie machine and would do well in matchplay. If he qualifies for next seasons Accenture he could be a lively outsider.

I will be looking to support 3G soon when he gets to a more suitable course, I think he is due another win before the end of the season.

I never realised he was only 21. Looks quite a prospect.

Men's volleyball (indoors)

This is the only sport where I could expect to know more about the game than the average odds complier..

There is a massive divide between those teams that can, and those that have absoutely zero chance.

Group A is the soft group.  Bulgaria are noticeably improved, won every game so far and in Sokolov, have a fantastic go-to man in times of need.  Poland and Italy are other "possibles" and everyone else "any price you like"

Group B is the group of death.  Brazil, USA and Russia ~ no need to look any further.  Brazil as clear leaders in FIVB rankings came in as hot favourites, last night got their arse handed to them by USA.  It was a great game, definitely worth a look if you can get it on video replay.

The USA team were highly effective, the stats support it but as most won't understand the stats, I will turn it into layman's language.

Clayton Stanley plays in the key role opposite setter, was frighteningly effective, an olympic veteran.  The Brazilian block were unable to get anything on him, and Stanley was equally impressive when attacking from the back court as he was from the net.

Lambourne was an impressive Libero, almost unnoticed by the untrained eye.  His backcourt pickups were as you would expect from a world class libero, his service reception was amazing, just about everything landing on the setter's head.  (i.e. points where they should be in trouble returning, were now fine counter-attacking opportunities)

Suxho as setter is obviously pivotal.  His distibution of the ball at the net was good, his ability to organise and execute 3man combination attacks mid-rally is one of the main reasons the Brazillian block was ineffective.  His ability to turn awful first ball into A1 attacking opportunity was lovely to watch - where most setters are content to use a backcourt option as an out or simply a high ball to position 4, our man would think nothing of producing a perfect fast ball through position 2, whilst at full stretch in the opposite direction.

Priddy whilst a short-arse has a jump like Alton Byrd (who remembers him?) and an uncanny ability not to be inconvenienced by the presence of a 3man block.

Anderson and Lee were the other standouts, more-so in attack than defence, but there is absolutely no weakness on court from a starting 6 from ^^.

USA are available at 5/6 for a top 3 finish. BLSQ.  Feels like it should be waaaaaaay shorter.  Wouldn't put anyone off 4/1 on the outright (LADs) either.

Would strongly recommend the place bet to FRED.

I cannot even find this bet now, Simon, Blue Square now seem only to be offering it up for Ladies Volleyball, sorry.

If it is still available anywhere, & the price still reps value, let me know please. Looks like everyone got on except Fred!

Good luck all.

Women's football.
Brazil v Japan.

Each team have played 3 games.
Brazil have received 5 yellow cards, Japan have received none.

I may be falling for racial stereotypes but I don't think the Japanese women are prone to receiving cards.

Brazil are 13/10 to receive most bookings.
http://www.oddschecker.com/olympics/football/womens/brazil-women-v-japan-women/most-bookings

It looks a good bet to me.
Recommend £50.

We missed this in very odd circumstances.

I asked Vince to take over yesterday, whilst I was absent, but having stuck this up himself, & got no comment from anyone, it was a bit awkward for him to plonk it on with my money.

One of those things.

Not sure if you've been watching the athletics but here's a link to a Jessica Ennis interview.

Basically she set a new British record for the 100m hurdles in a time that would have won the Bejiing Olympics four years ago. At one stage she says "we all now this track is fast".

You can bet on the 100m and 200m World records being broken at 4/1 and 5/1 respectively on Betfair.

Worth a nibble for Fred? I've had a few quid on these and a some others. Anyone have any thoughts on other records that could go?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/19112565

Thanks for that Mr Rubbish. There does not seem to be much concensus, so I have not done it (yet?), but I hope it comes in for you.

If I am not too late, I'll look at your Olympics Rowing bet shortly, too, now that the draw bias thing has been resolved.

Quite how any bookie can give odds on the GB Womens team puruit in the cycling is beyond me.

Buy as much money as you can.

Surprised they are not "no offers"

1/14 with skybet for a no offers shot is quite incredible. Even the 1/50 is massive as far as i'm concerned.

The rest should about 500/1 at least.

I'd make them odds on to break the world record !!

Mike Tyson ,as i recall was 1/66, was 1/50 against Buster Douglas in a sport where a lucky shot can win. There are no lucky shots here.

Bit skinny for Fred, but still, sell the house, the garage, the car, the granny flat and anything that moves. Bookies offering odds here don't have a clue.

god knows why i keep doing this but here goes

this isnt so much my opinion more of a glaring rick imo

ryan mcgowan bet365 goalscoring

reasoning :-

played the second half of last season as an attacking right back

has played three pre season games two of which as a number 10 behind a lone striker, hearts only have one senior fit striker

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/hearts-boss-john-mcglynn-thinks-1166902 suggests the manager seems quite set on him playing there for at least a few games.

suggest a £10 outlay £3.5 first scorer 33-1

£3.5 anytime 14-1

£3 two or more goals 125-1

hearts vs st johnstone

Thanks.

Could only get £3 with Bet365 for the first 2 bets, & nothing at all for the third bet, so I went to PP for that.

£3 @ 33/1, Ryan McGowan first scorer, Bet365

£3 @ 14/1, Ryan McGowan, Anytime Scorer, Bet365

£3 @ 125/1, Ryan McGowan, to score 2 or more, PaddyPower.

ON

Ryan McGowan @ 14/1
£3.00 Single 04/08/2012 12:59:33 3.00 0.00

Ryan McGowan @ 33/1

R McGowan @ 125/1

Went to Wembley tonight for the GB women's game. they played really well, solid centre halves, skillful centre forward, some nice touches in midfield and a leftback that keeps scoring. But they have some real glaring weaknessess, the rightback is pretty bad on the ball, the midfield as a whole is positionally naive and not solid enough, far too many times one pass led to the defence being outnumbered. The left winger has no defensive awareness and the centre forward looks old and short of pace, tho good on the ball.

I think there's probs gonna be a gamble on GB by patriotic punters now, I'm not sure where the value is, laying them or backing another team. Brazil will have drifted, but they didn't look that great. Got the feeling tho Martha had an offday and if she lights it up she can be like Messi for Barca. Not seen enough of the USA, anyone been watching their games?
Wish I'd turned this into a recommend, really didn't fancy GB despite their won all games to nil start....out now, and deservedly so. Missed the boat there

Brazil play China at 16:45 today in the basketball.

http://www.london2012.com/basketball/event/men/match=bkm400b11/index.html

Every other day. Everything going to plan for the basketball bet. Brazil won the first two games then were so ul to lose by one point to Russia in the third, were 2 up with 6 seconds left and some Russki launched a three while falling over that went in. The way I worked out the draw tho that's actually good, as I made it the third placed team would not meet USA til the final, the second placed team would meet them in the semis. Brazil should beat China today and finish third, therefore meeting the second place team in the other group, which is obv our biggy for the medal bet. If they win that they get two shots at teams that aren't USA to win a medal

In 1991, the Soviet Union fell apart. As a result, the traditional Soviet sports infrastructure also disappeared in last 2 decades. Twenty years later, in 2012, the current Russian Olympic athletes are the 1st post-Soviet generation who have suffered from this breakdown. This is good news for our medal table bet.

The Australians have no such excuse, which is most amusing

Looking ahead the same problem exists in Russian football. Besides Dzagoev & Kokorin there is hardly any talent in one of the world's biggest countries. That’s why Russia had to play with by far the oldest team (29.4 years average) in this summer's Euros.

Not the most appetising prospect for the country about to host a World Cup in six years time. Currently Oil money, which has supported Chelsea for so long, is attracting lots of foreign stars into Russian domestic football at huge wages and making some of those teams prospects in the Champions league.

However, a short of Russia for the 2018 World Cup looks good.

You may not be able to get a price on this yet though
