Hi Tony

Have 20 quid each way on what a friend in the betting without long run and kauto star market at around 10/1. Course, trip and ground all fine and ran 4th in this last year. Can run 5th as long as Kauto and long run are 2 that finish in front of it and still be a winning bet.

You might get 1/4 1,2,3 if you shop around

I think this thread is definitive proof you can't eat value.

Believe me I've tried.

Can I suggest a bit of e/w filth today?  Oscar Whisky and Thousand Stars @ 5/1 and 9/1 with 365.  Say £20 e/w on each?

ON

£20 EW on both. (Bet365)

Sadly, I only got 9/2 on Oscar Whisky, but I did get the 9/1 on Thousand Stars.

This is not after timing (I was at Chelters so only just seen it).. and I backed Oscar Whisky ew, so I can't say anything.

but, do you think Ladbrokes went 1/2 the odds a place on this race because they were so sure OW wouldn't stay and wanted to lay him for a place and this was the best way to do it?

It was such a strange offer.. I've never seen any bookie offer it before.

That Al Ferof bet must be one of the best you have had all year Keith. Took the perfect storm to stop it getting a return.

Was roughly breaking even until today.

Did my absolutes on the County Hurdle and the Triumph Hurdle though.

Gold Cup not good either.

So, all in all. Terrible!

You don't often get bookmakers giving away money like that!

My ante post bets looked so good on Monday.

Had massive value in about 5 races, returned zero.

Whats the scores on the doors now?

I missed the Daily Update both yesterday AND today, due to time pressure. (I'm up @ Walsall, working) but I'll get us up to date tomorrow morning, as I have the morning off.

I think we have had a good week, & moved nicely into profit, but I need to tally up.

MereSpreadsheet sent me a monsta good fully up to date Spreadsheet of every Bet on the Thread today, it's awesome, but I need to find out how to open it first.

PS - Just remembered, we prolly finished Chelters with a nice winner - that "Cloudy Lane" ran I think, & Chomps would never let us down, would he?

It was such a strange offer.. I've never seen any bookie offer it before.

It was a weird offer but I think it was just designed to get people putting their bets on early and therefore all the mug money goes to them too.  It is fair to say that this is the one week a year that the sharps become mugs to a degree.  Everyone has a bet on every race and we all know that is no way to win but justify as it being our Xmas etc.  Getting those sharp punters on the phone at 830-930 in the morning means you might get all the placepots, jackpots, lucky15's etc.  I am also a great believer in what I call the "square sharps".  These are the people that like a bet and are fairly educated.  They know about bad e/w races, they try to always take best price, they may understand that betting underdogs, under totals or selling in spreadbetting is generally more likely to be profitable (or less unprofitable anyway) than faves, overs and buying but ultimately that isn't enough these days and they still like a bet a bit too much and this week they won't have been able to sleep on Monday night and, somewhat inevitably, have many more bets this week than they should. Offers like this get those punters in and I think they are potentially very profitable for the firms.

tbh that describes the vast majority of so-called 'sharps'! (not suggesting that this is you or Camel btw!)

Agree the internet has made everyone sharper to a degree.  15 or so years ago I spent a few years working in shops for Ladbrokes when I was a student.  I worked in their most profitable shop (Wardour Street under the WAG club in Chinatown fwiw).  In three years there I think I can remember seeing two puters that had even half a clue.  You never saw bad each way money and it was rare to see sharp money at all.  Now everyone is at it.  It is kinda like what I was saying about Tony Bloom in the other thread.  He was doing stuff ten years ago that I only fully understood the importance of six or seven years later and I was massively ahead of the game.  It is only in the 2006 world cup that Ladbrokes priced England 7/1 to beat Croatia 1-0 when the home price was 1/2 and goals were 2 with under favourite at 4/5.  No bookie would come up with that price now.
