World Matchplay Golf starts tomorrow.

Sadly no longer at Wentworth, hasn't been for years, and sadly no longer a world class field. But at least it shouldn't be cold and wet.

Recommend £10e/w N Colsaerts 14-1 Skybet.

Colsaerts  performed well in his only start at this tournament.  It is being held at the same Spanish course as last year where he got to the semi-final, losing at the 19th hole to the eventual winner Poulter. Colsaerts is in good form with 2 top 10 finishes in his last 4 starts. The course favours longer hitters with a bit of gamble to their game which is perfect for him.

Many thanks hector, for a well-argued case.

I was actually hoping we might have some interest in the World Matchplay.

Back in the day, when at Wentworth, & sponsored by "Piccadilly", it was SUCH a great event. I really don't know what it's like these days, but I have fond memories of it.

Arnold Palmer & Gary Player dominated it originally, then Seve won it 4 or 5 times, & Ernie Els - who had a house adjoining the course at the time - won it loads of times, including 3 on the bounce.

We have quite a few Golf Experts here, so would welcome some input from them as to a few lively bets, but unless they get really heavy with us, I'll certainly follow your tip & speculate a tenner each way.

There are quite a few bets i like on this tournament, i like these clashes from different tours. First and foremost - you should find the best price about Rock v Clarke and Rose v Clarke, back Rose and Rock for the maximum and double them to if you can.  They have them around 4/6 kind of area - they should be 1/5 imo.

I don't really like backing outrights on matchplays but i have a soft spot Brandon Grace - never seem him play match play but he has that kind steel eyed concentration and ability to hole crucial putts that can win things like this and he makes a lot of birdies - its a punt though, i'm dabbling at 16/1.

Hi teacake, been away in the wilds of scotland so mainly offline, but good to see the NBA bets are coming good. Bosh going down for the Heat is good news for our lay, tho most of the other good teams have suffered with serious injuries so it seems fair for our lay rather than a massive advantage. Bosh is the third of their 'big three' and affects them a lot less than if Lebron or Wade got hurt, they still have the best and probs third or fourth best players in the league. Interestingly tho, Bosh is their only good big man, Lebron and Wade are both smaller outside players, and teams will really hurt the Heat inside now.

The lay was made with the forethought that (number one seed) Chicago will push the Heat in the East before they meet either San Antonio or OKC in the Finals, both of whom are as good if not better than Miami IMO. Chicago are already out, they lost last year's MVP Derrick Rose to a knee injury in the first game of the playoffs, and with him went any threat they carry. I also hoped the Knicks would push the Heat a bit more in round one, it's a long post season and if u can win 4-0 rather than 4-2 or 4-3, the extra rest, including less travel, is invaluable. The Knicks lost 4-1.

Indiana are the definition of a team, no superstars, with about eight players all of roughly the same standard, big guys and lil guys, the complete opposite of Miami, who have three superstars and seven role players (tho note they're not as bad as last year, adding Shane Battier, v good three point shooter and defender, and rookie Norris Cole makes them deeper this year). Indy won't knock Miami out, but they can test them. They have our mate Roy Hibbert (we had a winning bet on him earlier in the thread) who is 7 fot 3 and not bad, so he will be important now Miami are a bit undersized without Bosh. A lot of basketball is about matchups....Lebron and Wade are two  of the top five guard/forwards in the league, so Indiana's guards, who are competent and probably their best players, will still be overrun, but they have advantages in the big men.

If and when Miami see off Indy, they probs play Boston. Won't hear any suggestion they'll beat Miami, too old, too similar a team too, Boston's stars play similar positions to Miami's, just not as good. A team with some good big men could hurt the Heat tho.

In the West I think I read San Anotonio have won 15 straight by an average of 17....that seems to be some form. Importantly, they match up pretty well to the Heat, seven footer Tim Duncan is still more than good enough to be the focus of attack against the Heat, again using the match up advantages. Tony Parker is a good enough point guard to keep Lebron and Wade busy at the defensive end, and they have Ginobli leading a very deep bench, which is much better than Miami's.

I still think the lay is a good value bet.

PS Agree with redarmi, if Indy are -1 for the next game, I like Miami's side of that. Coz I've been offline and away from ESPN I'm loathe to reccy any bets tho. Can see the Lakers getting a beating again tonight tho Smiley

I'm thinking Martinez for Liverpool or maybe even Rafa back there. The Villa god only knows lol! I'm a Villa fan and would love Curbishley but we will probably end up with McCarthy!

Mandaean looks a  decent price in tomorrows dante.  This horse was the best of these last year.  Knocking godolphin is a bit of a national sport, but Al Zarooni seems to have a better idea than Bin suroor.  Currently 7/2 with totesport.

Brandt Snedeker has turned up in Spain for the matchplay minus his clubs and a change of clothes after both failed to get off the plane he was on, He has had to play the pro am today with a set of borrowed clubs and some freshly bought undercrackers.

He is hoping to get the clubs before his game against Bjorn 2morrow but if he doesnt then he will have to play with the set he now has. Obv its a blow to him and most firms have seen the news but Coral are still 13/10 Bjorn to beat Snedeker in their match 2morrow. Both players have been a bit injury riddled recently but the 13/10 Bjorn is actually an ok price in the match anyway. The price will go, so its not like we can wait to find out if they turn up and get on at the 13/10.

I suggest £100 on Bjorn to beat Snedeker at 13/10 with Corals, if the clubs do turn up then you are on Bjorn at what is an ok price anyway, if they don't turn up then Bjorn is fav, in fact he is already with some firms.

CASARES, Spain (AP) -- Deprived of his clubs and sleep following an emergency landing en route to Spain, Brandt Snedeker's first appearance in Spain isn't exactly going as planned.

The 26th-ranked American's journey from Miami to Madrid ahead of the World Match Play Championship in Spain was interrupted on Monday when his plane was forced to land after a passenger suffered a heart attack.

When he eventually arrived in Malaga on a connecting flight, he discovered his clubs and suitcase had been lost along the way, forcing him to use a makeshift set for Wednesday's pro-am.

"It's been weird," Snedeker told The Associated Press in an interview at the Finca Cortesin course. "It's been a long couple of days, but it's worth it to get here."

Snedeker -- the only American in the tournament's 24-man field -- is hoping to have his clubs delivered in time for the first of his two matches at the round-robin stage, against Denmark's Thomas Bjorn on Thursday. A good night's sleep will come in handy as he starts his bid to become the first U.S. player to win the event since Mark O'Meara in 1998.

"We had to make the emergency landing in the middle of the ocean out in the Azores and spent three or four hours on the runway dealing with that situation," said Snedeker, who missed the cut at THE PLAYERS Championship last week. "So I'm a bit tired. I'm trying my best not to nap before tonight, that will be the main thing."

Snedeker's other opponent in the group stage is South African rookie Branden Grace, who has already won three events on the European Tour this year.

Snedeker took advantage of Kyle Stanley's final-round meltdown to win the Farmers Insurance Open in a playoff in January, but his only top-10 finish since came at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship the following month.

That bodes well for the $3.5 million event this week in Estepona, which will be played using the same match-play format. A successful few days by Snedeker will give U.S. team captain Davis Love III a nudge ahead of the Ryder Cup against Europe in September.

"I love match play," said Snedeker, of Nashville, Tenn. "The one-on-one situations, when you can dictate the match by how you play, there is a lot of strategy involved.

"I love having one man to beat instead of 130-140 other guys. There's a lot more pressure on every putt, which I kind of like."

Snedeker missed out on selection for the 2010 Ryder Cup and is currently just outside the top eight on the U.S points list that will guarantee qualification for the match in Medinah.

He believes he's in good shape to make the team for the first time.

"There's a long way to go before that, but that's a main goal of mine this year," he said. "There's a lot of golf left, but winning this week would be a step in the right direction.

"I'm trying to get back into form after missing the cut at THE PLAYERS last week, but I'm not too far off. I have been playing some good golf and my short game's in good shape."

The laid-back Snedeker should feel right at home in the sun and relaxed environment of the southern Spanish coast.

"I love coming over to Europe, the culture and the lifestyle. It really is my cup of tea here. I just always play bad, for some reason," said Snedeker, who has missed the cut in all three of his appearances at the British Open. "I'm going to really need those clubs to arrive."

Pacers are -1 for the next game which suggests the bookies have adjusted correctly now so definitely no play there.  If anything I prefer the Heat at that number.

Good stuff, thanks. Like the way you are not swayed, the price is wrong, so "no bet".
