I haven't looked at the spreadsheet, but if tighty was literally right and the Euros will make or break the fund, that surely is too much exposure to one 'event' ?

Oh, and hope you are back to full health soon Ian.

I don't believe Tighty was entirely correct, if he did indeed say that.

Don't forget Vince Kidd, in "The Voice". Nailed on. Or, arguably, should be.

Anyway, feel free to take a butchers - it's here.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc#gid=8

We have precisely £195 invested in Euro12, out of a total of £900. Hardly "make or break the fund", imho.

Not guilty, M'Lord.

I've just opened this thread for the first time in weeks.

I don't understand any of it. It's like reading the service manual for an Airbus A380. In fact I could probably make more sense of the service manual for an Airbus A380.

From what I can gather, there are lots of bets. These include settled bets, unsettled bets and losing bets.

I suspect that somewhere, there is also a 'winning bets' section, but I'm unsure of it's location.

A lot of the discussion seems to revolve around someone called Max, who apparently needs to have had his bet size reduced.

One particularly busy and emotional area of the thread is littered with tech-speak and is very jargon heavy. It would be useful for laymen like myself if this type of discussion could be given it's own separate section. Perhaps under the heading 'Hindsight'.

Cliffs plz.

I meant the likely volume of Euro 2012 bets in June would make or break a positive return this month or not.

16 teams, 4 groups, very popular sport. Volumes will be high on the thread.

Ahh, Mr Galloway twisted your very fine words, did he?

Your clarification is appreciated, & perfectly clary.

Your self-veto is un-vetoed.

Then the veto-brush has to come out to maximise exposure to it?

a\ lot of negativity around on the thread?

firstly tikay is doing a super job balancing the suggestions with the bets especially as the thread has become more and more popular over the months

secondly as i have stated before the sample sizes are still to small to come to any firm conclusions as to what sports should be kept or ditched

all in my opinion of course

(come on vow)

Never doubted.   My post re stop betting on losing sports is hardly negative, more a concern as I don't see why you'd want to continue to bet on something that is a loser.  Yes the sample size is small, but as Tikay said, it will never be a decent size.  Plenty of people have also said that betting on horses is -ev long term.  The other biggest loser (Basketball?) has also been commented that even the bigger players in the betting world only have a small edge - what chance to we have?  On the flip side, most people suggest that they do ok on football, and then lose it on other sports bets.

I don't mind what Tikay or anyone bets on, I love the thread and find it fascinating, but I don't have to agree with everything that's posted and certainly don't mean it to come across as being negative.  Think of us sitting at a table over a beer with me smiling and you saying that this time next year we'll be millionaires once we've bet on enough horses.

It's what we do, it's who we are.

Spread betting firms seem to have settled on around 74 goals.
Seeing as they tend to inflate the totals due to people's natural inclination to "buy", I'd say that you should be looking at less than 74 as realistic.

There are 31 games.

In 2008, 77 goals were scored in 31 games.
In 2004, 77 goals were scored in 31 games.
In 2000, 85 goals were scored in 31 games.

Caveat: I know nothing about football.

one thing to note there Vince is that football has changed a lot since those totals
