A small profit or loss in neither here nor there for most of us, we have had stonking value, & as long as we get somewhere close to break even, that's fine, we've had our fun for free.

I find this very interesting.

This shows the real shrewdies with real info are not supporting the board or the thread would surely be showing a lot bigger profit.

PLease don't think i am criticising. I think this is a great thread but you have to ask questions to try and better yourselves.

Cricket bets. I mean there's no excuse for Derbyshire being rolled over for 95 having won the toss and batted.

Worcestershire won the toss and batted but only made 340 on a decent pitch on a sunny day, so that's acceptable. We might get something out of that game yet IF Somerset bat well enough today to set up declarations for tomorrow

Anyway, with the Eng 3-0 bet live, and no doubt some bets on the third test match to come from people, I'm self-vetoing for a while. Let your cricket portfolio have a spell in intensive care.

As a general thought, the thread is massively popular and the number of bets implemented has doubled in two months. Not sure if it can be achieved but a more targetted approach/less scatter gun might be good

I suspect the Euros, good or bad, will make or break the fund in june

Not wrong, EXACTLY that. Heads can't be buried in sand.

I'm not sure your line is correct about the shrewd guys though. First up, they kindly share a few tips with us, but they'd be fools not to get on first @ better prices.

Stake size matters too - I tend to decide that, & I don't really have a system, just gut feel. Then again, we lost about 12 straight bets at the back end of tfhe month, & if I'd bet the recommended amounts every time, we'd have lost a lot more.

I miss a few winners sometimes, inevitably, but mostly that is balanced out by missed losers. Note, by the bye, that if I had accepted Scotty's Greyhound Derby selections, we'd have cleared a fortune! My bad that, but I kept missing the price.

You are a very honest man Rich, love all that.

I don't think you should self-veto though. Your cricket analysis is a thing of beauty, and that SA RU bet was wonderful stuff.

You are refused permission to self-veto.

Like an eclipse, this only happens VERY rarely, but......

Vince has moved all the unsettled bets into the June Account, sao that means today we have the rare chance to see all of them togeher, not cluttered up amongst other stuff.

They are here.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc#gid=8

As you can see, the cost is £900.

Wonder what their value is, & what return we will get?

You never know, if they returned a decent profit, it might mean that May was very profitable. Too early to jump to any conclusions.

Incidentally, we staked an amazing £6,000 in May, wow!

tikay, my thoughts are that in general the thread is dealing with what i would call middle of the road punters.

I get fed some good info but no way would i dare print it on a board and surely thats the same from full time professionals.

So from that perspective i think you have done exceedingly well to be in profit, thats why i asked the first question because you seem to be policing it handsomely.

If this thread was playing a poker tournament then this is what has happened. We started the tournament and got dealt some good hands which held- the Darts betting.,We flopped some sets with small pocket pairs and got paid- Wigan banzais. We hit flush over flush- the Golf world match play bets. We were the chip Daddy and decided to take a flip ( because we could afford it) with JJ versus AK and lost. We are still in the tournament and ahead of the pack but we have to pick our spots with more care.

Should the maximum bet size be reduced because of the lower bank roll?

Lovely analogy!

Reduce max bet size? No, not yet. We rarely bet the max anyway, I more often that not reduce Max recommends.

We only had FOUR maximums in May, two wins, two losses, & a profit overall from them.  If anything, in the right spots, I may increase them in special circumstances.

Yes, I get fed some stuff privately, too, I expect we all do. We can't expect everyone to share everything.

I'm policing it well? Hope so, yes. Others are too, I expect, people can & do cherry-pick.

Sample size maybe small for horses and basketball but surely it's small for every type at the moment?    If you don't run good in them, why bet on them?     How good do you have to run in order to turn them into profit?   Is the ratio of winning bets to losing bets (rather than p&l based) stat more encouraging?

I'm not knocking but as a mug punter that never seems to win on the horses (for example), I'm pretty sure I'm better off not betting on them at all rather than going for a decent sample size before I can say I'm a loser at them.

Morning Graham.

Fair to say, the sample size of EVERYTHING is too small to judge, imo. It always will be though.

"not running good" is not reason to avoid though.

The reason I mention Basketball a lot is because I'm not sure we are betting it correctly, as to "how". And I don't know how we can ever get out of that hole with 10/11 shots. I did Jeff's one last night purely because it seemed a "good" price, in truth. Maybe we should bet fewer, but bigger, in NBA, but I don't know enough about it even to have gut feel, unlike football or horses, where I know a little, perhaps.

NEW ADVENTURE..... WITH THE GILLS !!

View Profile
« Reply #7588 on: June 01, 2012, 09:11:30 AM »

I have always found that in my profit and loss analysis on betFair my Football bet profits have been my biggest earner along with other Sports betting such as Motor sport , Tennis and Rugby, but my Horse racing has always been my biggest Leakage, so i have been reducing my Horse betting drastically over the last Year or Two which has made a big difference........

So my Racing Activities are now just doing the odd bet mainly in the Place Market and also doing the Meeting Placepots instead. And i am now dabbling more on the Sports Markets and Special bets.

As i said in a earlier post , the Football season is over and the sooner it starts again the better , and i hope i can share some good positive information, despite my bad debut bet on Cheltenham in the playoff !!

However i am sure there will some good Euro betting opportunities !

I am home for a Week convalescing as i have just come out of hospital yesterday , after having a Operation on some Kidney Stones, Unfortunately i have to go back again in a couple of weeks to go Thru the procedure again as they were unable to complete the job due to certain complications, but i was looked after well and just have to brush myself down and keep smiling and hopefully they will complete the procedure in next visit. I Hope  !!  Fingers Crossed !!

I am sure the Thread will provide me with some good tips as i will be spending more time on the Internet , to pass some of the time away from the Telly.

Might have a dabble on the Tennis today as it is on Channel ITV 4 and mess around with the Horses (My Leakage) and do a couple of Placepots this afternoon, so any good suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

As i am feeling a little low due to ill health, a forum community such as this is such a good tonic and goes a long way in making you feel brighter and better and aid recovery.

Regards Xpressman.
