A loss of £20 yesterday, Djinni unplaced at Newbury

In cricket, Glamorgan chased down 185 to beat Middlesex at the small out-ground in Old Deer Park, helped by a century from captain Jim Allenby

Glamorgan move back into a top 4, qualifying for the quarter-finals, position with 5 group games to go

Tonight is a very big night for our various T20 bets

in the South Group leaders Essex play 2nd placed Surrey at Chelmsford. Should be a very high scoring game.

in the North our two teams meet, with Worcestershire hosting Yorkshire. Worcestershire then play 2nd placed Lancashire on Sunday

A reminder that we're on Worcs at 40-1 e/w, the bunny of the 18 county field in the ante-post market.

This article refers to some of the challenges ahead  http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/28143721

In the MLB Baltimore beat the Rangers 5-1 last night, and the Yankees broke their slide by winning 7-4 too

if you look at the AL East standings, drum-roll, there is a new leader. At 12-1

elsewhere the Junior Wimbledon winner two years ago Eugenie Bouchard reached her first grand slam final in only her 6th slam. Se now plays Kvitova, a powerful grass court player who will be favourite to lift the title. Wide open these women's slams at the moment

Ahead of the MCC v ROW game tomorrow, possibly the most talented cricket selfie you'll see

Tyson Gay lost on his return to action after a drugs ban as he came second to Justin Gatlin in the 100m at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne.

Gatlin, the 2004 Olympic champion, won in 9.80 seconds from fellow American Gay, 31, who ran 9.93secs on his comeback from a 12-month suspension.

A third American, Mike Rodgers, came third in 9.98secs, meaning the 100m podium in Switzerland was filled by men who have served drugs bans.

no doubt someone will put them up for overseas sports personality of the year soon

today, Federer and Dimitrov in the mens semis

Brazil v Colombia and France v Germany in the World Cup quarters

That is the famous leader of a non racist comedy party, Nigel Farage.  He doesn't like that photo allegedly.

Why do Middlesex play at home - in Surrey?

Whatever happened to Uxbridge, which used to be a Middlesex out-ground? Uxbridge even has a Brunel Uni.

they still play at Uxbridge. right by the A40. which is apt, as the pitch is an absolute road

Interesting you mention the A40, a most interesting road, very unusual, & with a rich history, perhaps in my Top 5 Favourite UK Trunk Roads. London to Fishguard, of all places.

Here, have a read.....

Can someone explain to me why Wilko will win SPOTY for the 2nd time just because he is retiring?  I just don't get it at all?Huh?

I think you are completely missing the point, or at least, my point.

It's not that I think he will win, or is necessarily more deserving than others.

It's because, when you look at this market....

http://www.oddschecker.com/awards/sports-personality-of-the-year/winner

....especially after taking out (imo) MardyArse who I believe is wayyyyy too short, & thus distorting the prices, it is really tough to see who CAN win it. There IS value somewhere in those prices. There has to be, logically. But who?

Lets phrase it in a different way.

Forget Wilko, fine.

So, tell me where or who the value is.

I've read that list more times than enough, & I can't see where it is.

It's a thin year, an abnormally thin year, & won't take much winning.

I much respected the view of bobby, as to why it is hard for a golfer to win it. However, in a soft SPOTY, & if Europe were to steamroller USA, would Paul McGinley not be a consideration? (He's not even quoted).

Interesting debate, even though it revolved around SPOTY, which I last watched the year Princess Anne won it. Must have been at least 10 years ago, maybe 12.

I certainly agree it is a weak renewal.  But the thing that flummoxes me is this.  You likened it to a poor sellers race in Yarmouth the other day.  My question is would we spend a day and a half discussing a Yarmouth sellers?  If not why have we done it with SPOTY when there is Wimbledon, World Cup and F1 upcoming!  Smiley

That's a good question actually, but there was a very good reason, as it happens......

The previous day, Fred was very quiet indeed, the quietest it has been for some time, & so, despite my utter loathing of SPOTY, & all these TV Nonsense things, (I call them "Chompys") I thought I would maybe sow a seed or two, to prompt a little debate.

So I put a daft left-field mention of SPOTY & Wilko up, & lo & behold, 10 pages of debate & discussion ensued.

There are occasions, I can think of one or two, where a little lubrication is helpful.
