The chap delivering Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco to Sacktown is the Cleveland Brown Outside Linebacker called...
Barkevious Mingo.
If that isn't winning Name of the Week, I'll be amazed.

There was discussion the other day about Sports Franchises in Las Vegas, & why they may or may not happen, & I spotted this yesterday - talk of a NHL Franchise in Las Vegas!
Expansion has been a hot topic for a few years now in the NHL. There are a few struggling franchises, the main one being the Florida Panthers who set the NHL lowest attendance record a few weeks ago with 7,311 in attendance in a 19,250 capacity arena. The previous low was 10,063.
NHL Commish Gary Bettman has maintained the position that the league isn't actively looking to expand despite plenty of visits to Vegas, Seattle and Hamilton to meet with local officials. The league realigned its divisions last year to try to cut down on travel leaving 14 teams in the Western conference and 16 in the Eastern conference. Canada landed another team a couple of years ago when the failing Atlanta Thrashers (the local fans were allowed to choose the name) were shipped up to Winnipeg and became the second incarnation of the Jets.
The original Winnipeg Jets were moved to Phoenix in 1996 when the league ruled that players could demand their salary in USD even if they were playing in Canada. The fall of the CAD hit the Canadian franchises hard and when the league called time on their decrepit arena there was no money left despite 100% attendances. The franchise had to be sold and so became the Phoenix Coyotes. They stayed afloat for a while but ended up filing for bankruptcy in 2009 and it all got very messy with the league having to step in and fund the franchise to prevent a mid-season implosion. Five years and a big falling out with the city of Phoenix later, the team began this year as the Arizona Coyotes and Mr Bettman is still singing from the same hymn sheet.
He's a very curious figure, a lawyer by trade but he worked in the head office of the NBA and began his tenure as NHL Commissioner in 1993. League revenues have exploded and the team owners love him but he is almost universally derided by players and fans. Canadians hate him for 'Americanizing' the game much like Mr Hearn is in traditional snooker circles and everyone hates him because he plays hard ball with the players union which as resulted in three separate work stoppages during his tenure. Here is his opening speech at the draft a few months ago in Philadelphia
The seven Canadian franchises bought in ~35% of league revenues last year so another team up there seems highly likely in the medium term and another on the West coast of the US would appear to be a good fit to even out the conferences. Unfortunately for Vegas there exists the major stumbling block that most of the population works evenings so it will always be a struggle for the city to land a major league sports franchise.
The link in all this?

What a great Post, thanks Dan, you are a serious NHL geek presumably?
If you see a decent value NHL Bet, let us know please.
The Jeffrey Pollack hate is quite something, poor old Jeffrey.
If my memory serves correct (a 6/4 shot at best) it was Jeffrey Pollack who introduced the "November Nine" concept. "Good for the game", of course, nothing to do with money.

Basketball. The Cleveland Cavaliers lost again. The Cavaliers are 1-3. This is the 1st time a LeBron James team has started 1-3 since his 2nd season (2004-05). I wonder, not that I watch much basketball, but perhaps the All-Star team is gonig to take some time to bed in?

One respected commentator i read is recommending opposing the Cavs for the first 15 games as the weight of public money makes them articifically short, and then backing them when that money disappears after a poor start, as the team begins to gel.
The
Toronto Raptors
beat the Celtics 110-107.
"Rajon Rondo has a triple-double (11-10-15)."
"20th career triple-double. Since 2008-09, Rondo is tied with LeBron James for most triple-doubles in the NBA"
that is our top assists bet man.
What is a triple-double, i wondered? I had to look it up. Really most stressful to be giving myself a crash course in learning a sport with its own stat eccentricities. Anyway, A triple-double is the accumulation of a double-digit number total in three of the five categories in a game. The most common way to notch a triple-double is through points, rebounds, and assists. So I think last nitght sounds good news for this bet

Jeremy Hill
tikay backed over 75 yards against the Jags on Sunday
result was 155 yards, two touchdowns
following on from the post yesterday
- the man he backs up, Starting RB Giovani Bernard (hip, shoulder) didn’t practice again this week and looks like he’s out for the second straight game
- The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, is calling for a breezy night of football with steady 15-20 mile-per-hour winds out of the northwest gusting at times to 25-30. There’s a 40-percent chance of rain for the game that starts in the low 40s and ends at about 40 degrees.
any wind tends to lower scores and place a premium on the running game
- Hill has 74 carries this season, averaging 4.7 yards a carry
- With AJ Green the excellent receiver in his second game back from injury its not as easy for Bengals opponents to "stack the box" and stop the run, leave themselves exposed to big plays on the outside
the spread has gone up to around 80-85 for this game
http://www.oddschecker.com/american-football/nfl/cleveland-browns-at-cincinnati-bengals/total-rushing-yds-jeremy-hill
this is the first time since Oct. 30, 1988 that the Bengals and Browns play each other when both have five wins and a winning record. Iit is the first time since Dec. 23, 2007 that both teams have five wins when they play each other.
its going to be a tough close game
across the league, Cleveland are T-28th in defense (T-30th rushing, 18th passing), Cincy are 9th in rushing offense
I think and hope Hill will have a 100 yard night

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Basketball_Association_season_assists_leaders
Just for clarity ruling/settlement on the assists bet. The following is the rule for settlement from wiki/nba sources. I am assuming Ladbrokes will be using this to settle the market as they didn't state anything else on their website.
To qualify for the assist title, the player must appear in at least 70 games (out of 82) or have at least 400 assists. This has been the entry criteria since the 1974–75 season.
Therefore at his current rate we will need Rondo to play around a minimum of 32-35 games out of the regular season 82 games schedule to reach 400 assists to qualify for the title. Once this is achieved i would say the place part of the ew bet is as good as won. The really encouraging thing for the bet, which is very surprising, is that his team are currently ranked 3rd in the league in points scored (even though they are predicted to have a really poor season overall). The more points scored by a team obviously the more chance of them being assisted. Rondo will always be the main man to provide assists on this Boston team.
As expected the 'big four in the market/ante post betting' are well clear already in the standings from the link below. This really is a specialist stat category and it is very hard already for someone outside of this group of 4 to realistically win this award (link below for people to refer to which is updated every day if you wish to follow the bet more closely)
http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/assists/sort/avgAssists
Raptors have had a pleasing start at 4-1 and now have a run of 7 home games in a row which they will be a big (1/6 or shorter) favourite for at least 4 of these games against the basement dwellers of the league and a smaller fav in the remaining 3 (maybe close to a flip in 1 or 2 of the other games)
SA spurs have only played 3 games so far which is rather odd given most teams have played 5 games and are sitting at 2-1. They look to be in the toughest division of the lot from early results/form (even tougher than expected) but they are tried and tested with this squad/coach over 10 years.
The Cavs start is worrying (although 3 of their first 4 games have been on the road) and like tighty says it could pay to oppose them short term. This is especially true as their next game is their 4th game in a row on the road at Denver Friday (mile high city) which is the worse possible place scheduling wise to end a 4 game road trip when you are mentally/physically tired from numerous across time zone flights and coming off 3 losses in your first 4 games. This will be their 3rd game in 4 nights on the road and playing at altitude certainly isn't ideal.
Only having 6 assists as a team (Rondo had 15 on his own last night for the Celtics) in their loss last night is the most worrying factor for me and shows they are not getting easy scores on offense and are forcing a lot of shots which are low %. The cavs, bar James, are a team full of quality individual players who have never played on winning teams in their careers. Many consider Love and Irving to be 'selfish' individual stat loving types who play for themselves ahead of the team during earlier seasons in their career. This is the main problem for me right now with the Cavs. I expect teething problems but James will sort this out moving forward and command the other players respect to become more team orientated in their decision making in order to win.
