Swann used Broad's DRS review on a straight one too

Dubai is correct. Play straight and don't sweep often when DRS is about!

Just for interests sake, here are the Betfair prices on a Sri Lanka win just before and after the fall of each wicket so far today.

The four "columns" are "Person Out", "Total at fall of wicket", "Price before", "Price after":

Pietersen   118   1.7   1.33
Bell   152   1.6   1.28
Prior   233   2.74   1.8
Patel   252   n/a   1.7
Trott   256   1.73   1.23
Swann   259   1.28   1.07

I missed the price just before Patel was out.

Wow - do you keep records as it progresses?

Spreadsheet, presumably?

Sri Lanka were around 2.4-2.5 when the clown got out. And it was arguably the best price of the entire test whilst he was there

Not generally but I was interested in how this one panned out. I may have got a little over enthusiastic when backing Sri Lanka.

Nah Gilo a good lad surely. Tbf Heraths first class record is decent but probably flattered a little by conditions, can't imagine he would do much on a green May English wicket.  He obv better wicket taker than Giles Smiley

Herath had a season at Surrey. The Oval is one of the more condusive English tracks to his bowling, yet he was routinely milked and disappointed against Div 2 batting line ups

This compares to someone like Pragyan Ojha who came in for half a season and basically took the side to promotion last year. Very tough to play

As to the English batting, our technique has not caught up with the reality of playing spin in the sub continent under DRS umpiring

ie the benefit of the doubt previously given to batsmen (especially if they got a good stride in) has been removed by the "Umpires call" routine which basically transfers the benefit of the doubt to the bowler via the umpire

No sweeps, play straight, nothing pre-meditated. Not rocket science

but, that being said, and in before Dubai

With 2 wickets left, England need Monty's drops and Broad's no ball to win.

Mark Butcher made an excellent point about Thirimanne's fielding at short leg. He's sensational there.

Said it before and il say it again, if more than one "umpires call" is on an lbw then it should be not out, as clearly there is significant doubt and should favour batsmen.

TMS.....

The consensus in the TMS journalists' panel is that England need a new batsman to freshen up the side. But who would be the fall guy and who should that new man be? The fact is, in the next hour we could be talking about a fourth straight defeat for the number one side in the world. An oxymoron if ever I saw one.

I agree. It's changed the balance too far the other way. Bell in particular was unlucky today. He got a massive stride in, it was Umpires call on where it pitched and Umpires call on the impact on the stumps and DRS did not allow for any spin on predictive path. It had 8 feet to travel and it wouldn't spin to miss the stumps?

very harsh.
