Very unlucky with the Wigan bet. Just on that issue, I HATE the way BBC do their post match interviews.
Right, so both Chelsea goals are offside and Martinez is fuming. So what do BBC do? First, they show him the 2 goals on the monitor and then start the interview and ask him if he's furious. They are deliberately goading him into attacking the officials which they know is going to get him in trouble with the FA. Why? So they can get a 'Martinez blasts officials' headline. And they do this all the time. Everytime there is a controversial decision they harp on about it, trying to get the manager (who is obviously in an emotionally charged state) to comment on it. It's entrapment and they should gtfo.

70 today for Cabrera so +4 for the tourney.

Kaymer +5 through 11.

Mcdowell +3 through 10.

Sandy

Thanks Sandy.

Permission to heckle them both through the back nine is granted, presumably?

Leaving aside the BBC stuff, the bet was a decent shout, & we were a shade unlucky in some ways to not at least get the DNB. (Gamblers excuses, ftw).

Think we ended £40 down on the afternoon.

Jenny is on fire! I would not have done the double at any price, but, had I been in time, would have done both as singles.

Well done eso, too.

I hope it is okay to post this link on here but I thought it was quite interesting and can link into this thread, and its certainly something I would like to see discussed further.

http://www.pokerplayer.co.uk/sports-betting/news/57/bets_the_bookies_hate.html

I have read every post on this thread and I am sure I have learned lots, however at the outset one of the first bets posted was a lucky 15 bet each way.   Strange bet to take on if your opposed to doubles?

In the past I have spewed money on lucky 15's and lucky 31's but now the maximum bet I have is a treble, some times I will do them each way if its horses.

In football bets I would mostly bet singles, doubles around 30% of the time and trebles around 10% of the time.

Daily Summary

Eso gave us a nice Walsall bet earlier in the week, Jenny chipped in with a double (I only backed one, but both won) & apart from a DNB, that was it yesterday. Several of the losers were already accounted for in "unsettled", which we write off when placed, so overall, the day did not end up looking as bad as feared, & we are £110 down, with £100 in-running but paid & accounted for.

Most if not all of the Masters bets went south, but they remain unsettled as there remains one day of play, & you never know.....Of those, Westwood is the only realistic chance.

"In-running" excepted, we have no bets for today, as yet. The only football of note today is 2 PL matches, Man U v QPR, & Arsenal v Man C.

Judge put up a National fancy yesterday, but he very sensibly Posted later to say we had missed the price, & it was no longer value. Top man, very honest.

I have to consider geordieneil's Newcastle (to finish top 4) suggestion. I'm generally not keen when "fans" suggest their own Team (clearly, there are negatives & positives to that), but I'm taking a fancy at the latest price of 9/1, & will likely punt that today, unless strong counter arguments are posted.

Think thats us for today.

If I have forgotten anything, speak up, or forever hold your peace.....

Did you not start the thread with the intention of having bets discussed by a select panel of experts or is that not possible with time constraints etc. I love to see tips with an excellent thought process and believe in quality rather than quantity. I pictured you picking your bets off with the precision of a sniper and now the image I have is you stood behind one of these

But then again I like the Westwood tip purely on the caddy wearing the 53 bib Smiley

Morning Herbie-Werbie.....

Absolutely, though to be clear on this, I did not start the thread, Camel did.

But yes, that was the original idea, though in practice, it has widened considerably since then.

Sometimes there is not enough time to await feedback, & we must remember, the elders have better things to do than comment on every tip.

The thread has become an invaluable learning tool, & though my name is in the thread title, & I stuck up £2k (£1k originally) to have some fun, it is really addressed towards most of us.

I absolutely love the thread, if I'm honest, although it is very time consuming, & because it is distinctly time-precious, I don't have as much time to write stuff on my Diary. Always a silver llining, some might say.

I do find it quite difficult to say "no" to a tip, & have to word my replies with great care, so as not to offend. That's the difficult part, but it's all good really.

Yes I can understand that you might think you are going to offend someone by not going with their tip. I have no interest in gambling but noticed someone wanting to back Southhampton V Pompey. Manager Adkins and star striker Billy Sharp were both at Scunthorpe and I had to put how passionate both men are about winning local derbies and despite Sharp bagging 2 the match ended in a draw. Feel a bit guilty Sad

I don't know if you know the Billy Sharp story but he is an amazing guy (despite going to Doncaster via Sheffield utd)

Well yes, though the bet was "over x goals". It came in, but I missed it, as I had been offline, or whatever.

And yes, I knew the Billy Sharp story. I wish you'd Posted that on my Diary, as I have a view on it, though not one I expect would find favour with too many. Probably best not to discuss it here, really, & hijack the thread. Wink

Correct, sort of, Jenny.

The Lucky 15 was almost the first bet ever on the Thread, & I only did it because it met with the thread rules, & in the spirit of a fun thread.

I stated my very strong oposition to doing accas in all normal scenarios, & the debate went back & forth for 3 or 4 pages. "Ed Gascoigne" Posted a most eloquent argument in favour of Lucky 15's.

My personal position remains vehemently opposed to them though, even though I may do them now & then on this thead if they meet the thread criteria.

If I were betting on my own account, no, I would not ordinarily do doubles or accas, & I'm a little too old (& narrow minded, perhaps!) to change a view I have strongly held for over 45 years. On my "own" acount, I last did a double or yankee (or similar) in about 1967 or 1968.

Don't forget, I work for a bookmaker, & I see the numbers every single day. Nothing can convince me that accas & the like are good value for anyone but bookies, on the whole, & over time. Every Saturday, I see the big favourites in "xxx,000 lines", & it only takes one to go down & the bookie has had a good day. One goes down almost every time.

I worked for a bookie in my late teens, too (Saturdays only) in the days of the ITV Seven. It was my job to settle all the accas, yankees, ITV Seven's, & the like. What an eye-opener, & education, that was.

If you fancy sticking up doubles for the thread, please continue so to do, I don't mind at all, but only in most exceptional circumstances will I punt them as doubles. I will, however, punt them as singles.  Personally, I much prefer lots of little wins than a few big binks. I also want the bankroll to survive, so we can continue with the fun.

Opinion, it's all good, eh?

Don't lie, why wouldn't you do the double at "any price?"

Thats a little strong, Sir, if you don't mind me saying.

As I explained in my previous Post, I don't do doubles ordinarily, & this thread apart, despite punting most of my life, I have not done doubles or accas since the late sixties.

It is of course just a generalism, "I would not do a double at any price", common sense applies, if ridiculously good odds were available, & repped excellent value, I would consider them. I'd hardly call it a "lie" though, it is a "turn of phrase".

In plain English, it was intended simply to convey that I do not like accas & doubles, & do not do them.*

* Tems & Conditions apply. E&OE, too. Wink

PS - I have no issue with you or others doing them, good luck to you all (genuinely), but they are just not my thing.

Hope this doesn't count as a 'hijack' after you restrained yourself from commenting there Tikay, but thank God for 'There was praise too for the match referee, Darren Deadman, who refrained from booking Sharp for his T-shirt celebration, as he should have done under the rules of the game.'

And so this post isn't just about that, what do people think about Arsenal Man C today? My first thought was goals, but I havent really looked into it.
