Angus Hill, Barry Beasley and Ken Post were the ones I remember Chompy.

I think Mr B Fair does everyone's job now.

Yuh, to a degree, but every non-maiden/2yo race is priced up by someone these days by around half five the day before. Usually 365, sometimes Badblokes, sometimes VC. They are defo all using the same tissue.

lol you've edited that horse you mentioned!

Anyway I have a question about odds compiling - how is it that Passato gets to be fav for the 545 chepstow (and wins) with virtually no flat form?  Do compilers have access to a Big Book of Racing Gossip that says that it is expected to run well?

mine are both still running today what a shocking run i am on ...

anyway to try and answer the question how was passato fav for the 5.45? Firstly the race was very very poor the horse had improved lots for jo davis and presumably plenty saw the jumps rating and then saw the 49 rating and figured the horse has more flat ability than that.

As it transpires the horse was given a great ride and won (just) is the flat mark overly generous? probably not it was about right but the horse has won races over the sticks and most of that field will struggle to win a race of any kind in the future.

Passato hadn't run on the Flat for about four years.

Since then he's improved about three stone over hurdles/fences and is now rated in the mid 130s.

He ran on the Flat off just 49 today.

It's generally agreed that knocking about 35lb off NH ratings gives a Flat equivalent.

In that case he was about 50lb well in today. It's not always that clear-cut though obv.

It was like a one-night stand, exciting to anticipate,  but ended with no result.

Think Beasley is still going as are Michael and Simmons but I doubt they supply more than a handful of firms these days.

What I have stumbled on?

Why are you all talking about a one night stand with Angus Hill?
