Daily Summary, as @ 06.45, Friday May 25th

Frustrating day yesterday.

We only had 2 small bets, the first, on the cricket, won £40 without breaking sweat, but the 2nd lost, & so we gave back £55, giving us a £15 loss on the day.

In my poker "life", I just try to nick £25 or £50 every day, an hour on the Omaha tables or whatever, that's more than enough for me, it soon adds up, & I don't have any great desire to try & improve that.  Same with betting, I'd love to just be able to nick £25 a day, 7 days a week, that'd come to north of £8,000 per year, but it's much harder than it sounds! Guess that's the whole essence of it. I must say, the "thrill" of a bet is wonderful, for me, even £60 @ 4/6 gives me a buzz.

Anyway, we lost £15 yesterday.

In ante-post stuff,  nothing much changed, though our Miami Heat "lay" is presumably sickly.

We have a small wager on "Next Liverpool Manager" (Rijkaard) @ 20/1, he is currently 16/1, but Martinez is in the box seat right now, & his price has been slashed to 1/2.

What's coming up?

Ahead of tomorrow's HUGE Day (Russian Grannies, Boxing, Cricket, Golf, Football.....) not much for today so far, just bits & bobs, though I have a bunch of Cricket (2nd Test) stuff to wade through shortly, & once our local Cricket Corry gets his arse out of bed & gives us a weather update, we can make our decisions.

WOW, who we have in the Oaks @ 10/1, is now generally 5/1 - nice! About time horseplayer had a break, too, so fingers crossed for WOW.

In the PGA, @ Wentworth, we are on 3G, & I daresay hector will give us a proper update this morning, but for now, our man, Colsaerts, is on level Par, 6 behind the leaders, & smack on the projected cut line. Could be better, could be worse......

Interesting to see Dubuisson, mentioned by a few shrewd judges pre-Event @ 100/1 or better, is right in the mix @ 2 under.

Richard Mfkg Sterne is in the mix, too, presumably we can deduce that all his limbs are intact.  One wise & venerable old wrinkly stands to bink £17,000 if he wins. MBN.

Trying to make sense of the plerthora of suggestions for the 2nd Test, which begins at 11am this morning, so far we seem to have this......

Sandy (henrik) goes for Chanderpaul to be top WI batsman, @ 5/2. I'm quite keen on this one, & Sandy is rarely far off with his stat-based stuff. Horsey "likes", red is worried that the price is a tad skinny.

On the same market, Tighty likes - more for perceived value than anything else, & as an alternative to Chanderpaul - keeper Ramdin as a lively outsider, @ 16/1.

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-west-indies/england-v-west-indies-tests/england-v-west-indies-[2nd-test]/top-west-indies-batsman

Jaffa Cake likes Jimmy Anderson as best England Bowler (2nd Test), he's generally 2/1.

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-west-indies/england-v-west-indies-tests/england-v-west-indies-[2nd-test]/top-england-bowler

Jaffa also likes Anderson as top England Bowler in the SERIES, @ 5/1.

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-west-indies/england-v-west-indies-tests/england-west-indies-tests/top-england-bowler

For the last of Jaffa's triumverate, he goes for Anderson to be Trent Bridge Man of the Match, @ 8/1. I think that is a very tough market to try to predict a winner from.

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-west-indies/england-v-west-indies-tests/england-v-west-indies-[2nd-test]/man-of-the-match

Tighty is against Anderson for best Series, UNLESS it is humid, AND 2nd Test, preferring Broad &, I think, Bressers.

It appears our decision on the bowlers rests upon a weather report from our local corry, who has yet to stir from his bed. The Betcave awaits.

Talking of our Mere local cricket corry, he goes for Kemar Roach as top WI Bowler (2nd Test).  Mere very rarely puts a bet up, & has a superb strike rate, so that warrants serious thought. Tighty likes that conditionally, depending on Team, & Weather. Once again, we await Mere perambulations & his Michael Fish style weather reports. Horsey is against Roach, preferring Rampaul or even Shillingford. Mere is not in agreement there, presenting Stats to make his case.

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-west-indies/england-v-west-indies-tests/england-v-west-indies-[2nd-test]/top-west-indies-bowler

So, one way & another, my head is, unlike the Trent Bridge pitch, spinning.

Any more input needs to be on thread before 10am please, to give me time to sort.

For now, I'm almost certain to have a little dabble on Chanderpaul & Roach, & we will maybe have a few more investments pending further pre 10am feedback.

A sure sign that football has vacated centre stage momentarily, a real interest being shown in the 2nd Test. I'm glad, too, because we get a 5 day sweaat, & of course, Test Cricket is THE perfect sport to watch.  I watched some of the Clydesdale20 thing yesterday, I could barely believe my eyes. I have to assume the batsmen were all trainees, not one of them seemed to know what a defensive stroke was. Utterly dreadful, proper Argos-style stuff.

Remnember, further 2nd Test clarifications needed by 10am latest, or I'll do my own decision-making. And you don't want that.

Your local cricket correspondent got his arse out of bed at 5:30am this morning.
I can report bright sunshine with clear skies which will presumably turn into very bright blue before long.
There is a slight breeze and no humidity. It's a perfect day (for those that like that kind of thing).

That is the situation as I went past Trent Bridge at 8am this morning. I might have stopped but I wasn't sure that the TBI was open yet.

All in all, a day for winning the toss, batting for the best part of two days and scoring six hundred.
There appears to be no obvious assistance for swing bowling in the conditions but it is Trent Bridge.

Thanks Vince.

So what impact does that have on the suggested bets, what is better, what is worse?

I'm almost certain to back ChanderPaul (Top WI Batty) & Roach (Top WI Bowly) anyway, but it's the rerst I'm confused about.

Think Anderson is too short in these conditions.

Perfect for batting, no bowler is that much of a favourite over another.

Chanderpaul yes, should be, but 5/2 is unprecedented low. Hence the search for some value

You don't have to have a bet!

The Coup

On the way to Wentworth Tikay had his personalised Satnav on. This was set to exclaim in an excited voice whenever they came within 5 miles of a train station he had not visited. So after several detours on the way it was late morning before they arrived at the course.

" See hear Novice" said Tikay. " You can only lose a golf tournament on the 1st day, you can't win it. Just a nice round, a score in the pack will do just fine today. I thought we would follow 3G on his round and give some gentle encouragement, make him feel at home.

Going to the boot of his car Tikay was getting ready for the golf. It was blazing hot, so with his recent bout of elephantiasis caused by the Nice sun, Tikay donned a dapper Fedora hat. He picked up a walking stick, and completed the ensemble with his by now customary scarf. Novice, as always carried his I-Pad, Blackberry and calculator just in case any new bets came in.

Novice though was very concerned about the enormity of the bet that Tikay had committed them to. Bankroll management had gone out the window. One phrase that Tikay had used really scared him to the core, " If this goes tits up then Blonde will be Gutshot's bitch- that's for sure". Even if Gutshot could find a use for a spreadsheet guru, the thought of working for a bunch of Eastend hoodlums did not appeal in the slightest. Maybe he would try and get a job as a dealer at DTD.

3G played just as Tikay hoped for, a steady round in level par with little in the way of excitement. That would do just nicely. " It's an early start tomorrow so I have booked us into an Inn just down the road. They do excellent food too by all accounts.

Having checked in they found  a table in a quaint dining room. The waiter arrived to take their order.  " I'll have the mixed grill please" said Novice.

" And for you sir?" the waiter addressed Tikay.

" Half a dozen hard boiled eggs and a pineapple please."

"You order dessert after your main course sir" said the waiter.

" Oh no you misunderstood me" replied Tikay " I want them together. 1 plate just lob it all on. And make sure it's fresh pineapple."

For the past 2 weeks Tikay's diet was in extreme mode. In a bid to lose as much weight as possible before Vegas all he consummed was eggs, pineapple and fluids. For the first week it had gone swimmingly, a 6lb loss. This week however he had gained 5lbs and this was due to him having some digestive problems. He had not had to drop the kids off at the pool for over 5 days, and it was starting to worry him.

" OK Novice that's me done. Time for bed now. A chapter or 2 of Bradshaw's train guide and I'll be out like a light."

As they exited the dining room Novice noticed that the time was  6.47pm.

You don't have to have a bet!

I'm deffo going for Roach & Chanderpaul, just small, but I like both bets.

I don't really want to go too silly though, with the month end looming, & our May numbers so delicately poised. It's a bit like Cheltenham Week in a way, we are all hungry for some action, but it so often ends in tears. I'll work though the list shortly, but your point about bowlers is, & the likely bowling conditions, is, I think, well made.

I think the conditions will favour the opening batsmen in the Second test so I recomend

5 pts on Alistar Cook (only if you can get 4 -1 ) at Stan James  (Tikay Im wanting £500 on if you have Stan James account (mine got closed)

and a back up/saver 3 pts on Strauss  9 -2 general

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-west-indies/england-v-west-indies-tests/england-v-west-indies-[2nd-test]/top-england-batsman

Sorry...although Chanderpaul is the best Windies batsman 5-2 is Way too short and definitely not a value bet...Tighty has the right idea with Ramdin

Thanks Fraser, my head was already befuddled with 2nd Test recommends, it's even more so now!

Thanks for the input, though.

I'm attempting to overcome a desire to be too silly on this 2nd Test, it's easy to get carried away, but I'm not too keen on dusting off several hundred quid on it.
