Not quite sure how to price up the utility of money / time decay, but Murray is insanely short for Spoty @ 2/1.  Anyone thinking of backing Federer @ roughly 1/2 would be worth considering laying Murray for SPOTY instead?  Assumption is that if Federer wins, SPOTY won't happen, plus you get the freeroll that Murray somehow beats Federer, but doesn't win SPOTY anyway?

Brits love a (gallant) loser.

Mansell won SPOTY when he was runner-up for the Formula 1 Championship, not when he won it.

They are loving him all the way out to 12/1 already.

What? Even with the waterworks?
Have they no heart?

Looks like someone on BF has a heart... shortened up a bit again.  Still think it was a better bet than backing Federer, with the same sentiment ofc.

Hmmmm, 12/1 looks a bet to me. He's 11/2 to win the Olympics. If he wins that, he's got to be a cert.

Not at all. Still think a track and field gold medalist is overwhelming favourite, even if Murray won the Olympics

Not even close to a cert, probably 8/1 still. Far too many other things going on for that to be considered.

Daily Report, as @ 06:00, Monday July 9th

One new long-term bet for Fred yesterday.

The league stage of the T20 cricket ended and neither of our teams (Surrey and Glamorgan) gave us a sweat. I've closed the bets.

There were no holes in one in the golf.

The final of the tennis ended with a convincing win for a rejuvenated Federer. Andy Murray provided tears but Fred hadn't taken the bet. We believe that Murray losing helped our SPOTY bets.

Mark Webber won the Silverstone Grand Prix which was good news for some of Fred's followers.

We now have an interest in "Big Brother". tikay will be thrilled.

What's coming up?

A quieter day as you expect on a Monday.

Snooker has moved to Australia.

The Tour De France continues.

Warrington play the Catalan Dragons in Super League rugby.

England play France in the U19 European football championships.

Australia take part in the speedway World Cup. Fingers crossed.

One for JaffaCake after the discussion on here

Uruguay's olympic squad includes Suarez and Cavani

Uruguay Olympic squad:

Goalkeepers: Martin Campana (Cerro Largo), Leandro Gelpi (Penarol)

Defenders: Sebastian Coates (Liverpool), Diego Polenta (Genoa), Ramon Arias (Defensor Sporting), Alexis Rolin (Nacional), Emiliano Albin (Penarol).

Midfielders: Egidio Arevalo Rios (Palermo), Nicolas Lodeiro (Ajax), Matias Aguirregaray (Palermo), Gaston Ramirez (Bologna), Maximiliano Calzada (Nacional), Diego Rodriguez (Defensor Sporting)

Forwards: Luis Suarez (Liverpool), Edinson Cavani (Napoli), Abel Hernandez (Palermo), Jonathan Urretaviscaya (Vitoria Guimaraes), Tabare Viudez (Nacional)

Stand-by: Alejandro Silva (Fenix), Marcelo Silva (Penarol), Federico Pintos (Defensor Sporting), Martin Rodriguez (Wanderers)

Brazil   2   Coral
Spain   5/2   Blue Square
Uruguay   8 Bodog
Great Britain 8   William Hill
Switzerland 12 Sky bet

I can't be having our team at 8-1, the question is whether Urug/Swiss is worth the punt at 4 times the prices of the the two favourites..............

Urug/Swiss are in the half of the draw that avoids Brazil and Spain until the semis

Dai Greene's profile is rising.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/wales/18771190

This has got to help his SPOTY chances, surely.

Current odds anything from 25/1 to 50/1.

Tonight Warrington v Catalan @ golf Rugby League

This is  a huge match for Warrington. They are 2nd in the league and need to win this to stay there. A couple of months ago we backed Catalan in the reverse fixture and saw them stroll in by 24 points. This will be a different ball game. Warrington rested several players last week and were humbled at Salford. Tonight  I expect Warrington to be ruthless. Catalan had 3 players playing for the exiles and they remained in this country afterwards so Catalan have not trained as a team this week. Warrington have already beaten Catalan this season, in the Challenge Cup, so they will have no fear this evening.

I have checked the weather forecast and it should be dry tonight in Warrington.

At 2-9 there is little to be won with a straight Warrington win but I like the look of Evs on Warrington to win by 13+ points with Blue Sq. The 11/10 with W Hill was better but that has just gone.  Recommend £30.
