What's Coming Up?

The Olympics continue, & they are getting more interesting by the day.

Phelps, in whom we have an interest, has collected a few medals already, so we have a squeak with him. Today's Headline Event is the Cycling, which starts & ends at Hampton Court, so I am imprisoned at home again today. I gather Wiggins is unbackable.

Glorious Goodwood continues.  Note "Glorious". I wonder how many times the media have used that expression down the years? Frankel is today's star attraction, even more unbackable than Wiggins.

There is ECB40 cricket on TV today, a format which Fred readers don't seem to like, or notice, we've barely heard mention of it. Maybe it is the dumbarse names. Today we have Surrey Lions v the Nottinghamshire Outlaws

Outlaws, Nottingham, Robin Hood etc. Get it? Oh yeah, you did.

I mean ffs, who on God's earth thought people might say "oooh, Nottinghamshire Outlaws, what a cracking idea to call them that, think I'll go watch it"? I would imagine it amuses most under the age of 5 though.

In proper cricket meanwhile - whites, 5 days, red ball, defensive strokes allowed, encouraged even - the 2nd Test starts tomorrow. We had a bunch of fun in the first Test, maybe we can do that again before we return to the questionable fayre of Outlaws, Lions, Gladiators & all that bish bash bosh tosh.

We start a new month's account today, so it'd be neat if we could get off to a solid start, psychologically it always seems uphill when we begin with a few losers.

We shall see.

Nottingham used to have an American Football team called the Nottingham Hoods. I thought that was a rather good play on words.

If you want to start the month in profit then we had better pray for Uruguay to beat Team GB tonight.

Well you see that IS clever, requiring just a modicum of thought. No apostrophe in front of "Hoods" though? Shameful.

Ooh, forgot that.

Are we allowed to be unpatriotic in pursuit of our financial well-being?

I know nothing of the game tonight, but it has draw all over it I would think. That any good?

So, what happened in July?

Fred closed 63 bets with a total of £2,369 wagered for a profit of £88 and an aggregate ROI of 3.71%.

Fred bet on 12 different sports with golf (19 bets) and cricket (10 bets) being most popular.
Cricket returned a profit of £232.50 whilst golf made a loss of £203.50. These were our biggest winners and losers for the month.

30 different people provided the tips for the bets which Fred placed.

Overall, we have the following statistics since we started in February:

Fred has closed 510 bets with a total of £22,988.14 wagered for a profit of £4.25!!! and an aggregate ROI of 0.02%.

I don't think that our eponymous hero will be able to retire based on his punting profits just yet.

Fred has bet on 25 different sports with football (164 bets) still dwarfing all over sports in terms of activity. Next busiest are golf (67 bets), horses (47) and cricket (45 bets).

The statistics for our most and least profitable sports (based on aggregate profit/loss) are:

Sport   Profit   Amt Bet   ROI   No.
Football   707.14   7,656.76   9.24   164
Dogs   425.00   550.00   77.27   14
Baseball   404.50   639.00   63.30   14

...
Cricket   -219.66   2,098.86   -10.47   45
Formula1   -290.00   290.00   -100.00   8
Basketball   -631.56   1,218.00   -51.85   22

The complete list is here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc#gid=4

80 different people have provided the tips for the bets which Fred placed.
I think that it's very positive that we have so many people contributing but there is always room for more.

We have punted with 17 different bookies/exchanges.
We have made £648.86 profit with Bluesquare whilst losing £548.09 with BetVictor.
The complete list is here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc#gid=7

So, in summary, the thread isn't costing tikay any money directly but we can do better.
On the other hand you can't put a price on fun (in much the same way as you can't eat value).

I'll take requests for other statistics apart from listing individuals' tipping records.

Chris Froome in the TT. 16/1 EW on Skybet. Seems worth a punt.

Stewards Inquiry

Fred Member Singheeee is duly summoned to appear before the Fred Elders to explain his conduct.

He gave us a Baseball Bet last night which lost.

This is unacceptable.

I did tell you I wouldn't be keeping off the tips if no bribes were forthcoming...

A draw would get GB through but would probably see Uruguay out unless UAE beat Senegal.
Even a win for Uruguay is unlikely to be enough to top the group (which is what Fred is on) unless Senegal fail to beat UAE.
However, there is some opinion that finishing second in the group would be advantageous so perhaps Senegal will settle for a draw which would guarantee them 2nd place.

Presumable because "hood" is an abbreviation of (neighbour)hood.

In this context, it is an abbreviation for Hoodlums, surely?
