fascinating watching the betfair price now

will drift again as plenty have laid off despite my best efforts i managed £20 on which isn't worth messing around with

the 5-1 currently on betfair is very very fair if the forecast are to be believed

Wow, it was worth the fun dig about combinatronics just to get that write-up Simon, brilliant stuff, thanks.

What is the thing with you & Volleyball, how come you know so much, did you play it seriously (don't actually see you as the overly athletic type personally....) or just as enjoy it as a spectator?

I played the game a lot in Africa back in the eighties, the Lebanese seemed to own everyone in Voilleyball back then, though this was just fun stuff on the beach, but from that experience, I got to know many Lebanese, so it was a great eye-opener for me.

I liken it to poker, in a way - no matter how bad you are, it is still playable, & enjoyable.

Yes I played it seriously as a teenager, I was the starting setter for a National League 1st division side as well as with the England U21 squad.  Training was every day that wasn't a match day (as it is with every other sport) and I found it much more enjoyable than the other mainstream sports that I was also good at, but had to eschew in order to pursue volleyball.

Whilst my weight has obviously fluctuated a lot in recent times (generally upwards) there seems to be some sort of latent conditioning from that traning that still exists.  Cricket was my later-day passion, and only last year my knees decided that they had had enough of that too.  A good example would be Mr KOL who brought me breakfast recently in the Canyon Ranch, as he paid, I quote: "FML, how good do I run?  I challenge the fattest bloke here to a swimming race, start before he is ready and lose by half a length."

Just to let you know Tikay (and anyone else who might follow thread bets in), the 1st round of the Irish Derby concluded last night, with Tyrur Big Mike confirmed as the (equal) fastest qualifier. The other dogs to set fast times were all sub 14s pre-tournament. Second round is this Thursday and Saturday, Big Mike runs Thursday and has a nice draw. Big Mike has went even faster in the past so hopefully you get a small sweat for your 5er.

Robbiesgoneagain also qualified, second from his race, albeit in a time almost a full second slower than Big Mike. He runs Saturday, and has a good chance of qualifying for the 3rd round.

Coral go 16/1 for Tyrur Big Mike, but WH have went 33/1, I've went back in and I'm suggesting that TfT does too. Maybe another £5.

William Hill are best price about almost all the dogs in the Irish Derby field, which I find surprising - how common is it for a firm to do that? In some instances the differences are quite substantial.

It is with WH that I go to to advise another bet in the Irish Derby.  I realise I've offered up a number of bets recently so appreciate you may want to leave this one but thought I'd throw it up here anyway.  Having watched the majority of the heats there is one dog that sticks out for me at the prices, Sawpit Sensation.  Hills are 40/1, with other firms as short as 20/1.

Sawpit Sensation is a slow starting dog who comes from off the pace, the first round performance was exceptional and came from 6th to go past some good dogs before the home straight. The time was a very reasonable, 29:69, with the fastest of the round being 29:51.

Other key pointers:

Has won 16 of 28 races, quite a record for a dog that comes from off the pace.
Only finished outside of the top 3 on 3 occasions.
Holds the Perry Barr 480 track record, sharing it with the 2011 Derby winner Taylor's Sky.
The slightly longer Irish Derby run will suit.
On form, turned over Steel City Cup favourite Boher Paddy last month.

Really like this one. It feels ridiculous me suggesting such small stakes when you are chucking the same amounts on random things (Laudrup) so I will go crazy and suggest £10EW on Sawpit Sensation in the Irish Greyhound Derby @ 40/1 with WH.  And if you missed it, I suggested topping up on Tyrur Big Mike too, again with WH.

really good write up scotty thanks

i very rarely punt on greyhounds but have followed you in small on the two suggested today

couple of questions

i see hills are 1-4 odds first 6 places in this , is this standard terms at this stage?

when do the next rounds and final take place and can i watch it anywere?

thanks

Longer rounded competitions like the main Derbies usually pay EW top 6 for the first couple of rounds iirc.  It'll then likely drop to top 4 at the 3rd round stage.  Smaller competitions, usually 3 rounders like the Wimbledon Puppy Derby that I gave Tikay a couple for, tend to be top 4 at the outset and then differ after the first round.

2nd Round: 9th and 11th August
3rd Round: 18th August
QF: 25th August
SF: 1st September
Final: 8th September

I'm not entirely sure if there is anywhere to watch Shelbourne online, I normally watch the next day on the IGB website.  If I find someplace showing the races live I'll be sure to let you know.

Scotty......

Am temporarily otherwise engaged, so briefly for now, full details later.

I have actioned both those bets, exactly as recommended, except that I doubled the bet size on Sawpit.

Full details and confirmation later, but we are on.

Thanks!

I would agree. Azarenka and Mirnyi a tough combo

Go on Laura Robson though, who love them to win for her at 18yo
