Daily Report as @ 0830, Monday August 6th

Mostly bits & bobs yesterday, with one exception, watching the Olympics beats betting the Olympics.

Completed action yesterday included the ever popular Gatlin, who we had for the 100m, £10 @ 25/1. He finished 3rd, so a worthwhile - if losing -  tip by Mr Kimber. Bolt is just different class.

In Golf, our 70's TV Cop Duo, Hunter & Mahan, or even Mahan & Foster, bombed out, but we only had a tenner on each. Save the golf run good for this week's PGA, whhere we might have a good bit of action.

In Womens Handball, Norway got turned over by Spain in what amounted to a (nearly) dead rubber. We progress to the next stage safely.

We placed a few more bets on the Irish Greyhound Derby, another £30 in total, not big money but big prices & fun sweats, hopefully.

In Olympic Tennis, we had no interest in the Murray-Federer match, as we had conflicting recommendations. Once again, the contrarian Doobsy scooped. We should have known.

We also stuck £100 on a Shot Put lady named Nadzeya Ostapchuk, more on which shortly.

What's coming up?

The Olympics continue, you know the drill.

On Sky Sports today, Tennis continues elsewhere, for the Rogers Cup. Or it may be the Canadian Masters. Or the Canadian Open. And, depending if the year is odd or even, it may either be in Toronto, or Montreal. Or men, or women. All clear on that?

The two competitions are currently held during the same week in August. Before 2011, they were held during separate weeks in the July–August period. The events alternate from year-to-year between the cities of Montreal and Toronto. In odd-numbered years, the men's tournament is held in Montréal, while the women's tournament is held in Toronto, and vice-versa in even-numbered years.

So there. Anyway, here are a few prices. As it is 2012, it must be Toronto, & Men.

http://www.oddschecker.com/tennis/mens-tour/atp-toronto

Much nearer home, we have Rugby League on Sky Sports tonight, St Helens v Warrington Wolves.

Looks like either of two.....

http://www.oddschecker.com/rugby-league/club-rugby/super-league/st-helens-v-warrington/winner

Live Speedway on Sky Sports, too, Swindon Robins v Poole Pirates.

The 2nd Test, MCC v South Africa, continues into its final day. All 3 results are possible, except we KNOW it cannot be a draw, Tighty said. And the draw is about 1/50......

England are as high as 33/1, & South Africa up to 50/1. A few quick wickets this morning & it could all kick off.....

Last night, we plunged for £100 on Miss Nadzeya Ostapchuk in the Womens Shot Put.

This turned out to be based upon incorrect information. Trying to get an edge, & we out-thunked ourselves....

I'm going to REMOVE the bet from Fred. I'm quite happy to hold the bet off-Thread, but it does not sit well with me to leave it on Fred. It's perfectly proper to remove it, as the Event has yet to commence.

One of those things, & no complaints from me. It is the same thing to me, financially, be it Fred or off Fred, but it just sits better with me not to burden the Thread Account with a mistake. I should add that I already have a decent off-thread interest in the outcome, as it looked too good to miss. At the time.

I shot myself in the put.

Shouldn't the bet stand! As Bobby mentioned after posting the tip the thread has a bet at the right price, doesn't it?

From the outside it looks as though the bet is getting chalked off as it didn't turn into value. This obviously might not be the case but if the price has moved to evens would the bet still of got taken off the thread?

I don't think it should, no, but you may be right. (Except for your last sentence).

Remember, be it ON thread or OFF thread, the result is the same for me personally.

It just set a bad example for the Thread account, to have stuck £100 on without awaiting feedback, & it was a mistake by me.

I'm not THAT fussed either way, I just prefer it this way. I have to be the "judge" on hundreds of bets put up by others, and having just invested £100 without much back-up, I set a bad example.

Also, the event has not started yet, so it seems fine to me to change my mind.

Am happy to go with whatever the Elders & Regulars say, but until & unless they say otherwiswe, the bet is OFF.

As mentioned in several sources, the New Zealanders really did forget to enter Adams in the shot put.  So if you'd asked someone else who also knew this, they'd tell you to bet and bet quick.

I understand that, it is also your thread and I have learnt more about betting than I could ever imagine from this thread so I was in half a mind whether to post or not as I don't want to go bashing it.

Are there not certain posters that you should back without much back-up and having lurked the thread/forums Bobby is probably one of those?
If I had posted the tip exactly how Bobby did and for some reason  Tongue you followed it, I could completely understand why you would then take it off the thread. I think you would of used your better judgement though and not bothered with the bet or as you mentioned wait for others opinions!

Stop confusing me.......

The Events starts TODAY, so I'll take some more input & then make a decision.

The main thing is not to be seen to be frivolous with Fred money.

Glad to hear you enjoy the thread, & I know you are not "thread bashing", so no worries on that score.

And yes, I do back a select a few people "blind", & that definitely includes Bobby.

It's not THAT big a deal either way, I just want to be right by everyone.

1. The bet should clearly stand on Fred's account and you haven't even begun to make a good argument why it shouldn't

2. The cricket is "England v South Africa". MCC have never played home test matches.

Jessica Ennis withdrawing from the 100m hurdles hasn't helped her SPOTY chances.

Had she taken part she'd probably have lost and that would have hurt them more imo.
