The one(s) that got away……

We had another of those flip-flop jobbies yesterday.

Man City were put up as a stonking value, bargepoles of the non-touching kind were mentioned, alternative lines of +1 & DNB were mentioned, before, eventually, we settled on laying Real Madrid.

A this juncture, Doobsy putting his kids to bed intervened, the moment was lost - & so would our lay have lost. Result, plenty bob saved. Best swerve excuse ever.  Well done Doobsy's kids.

Interesting night last night. The Man City game was a wow, we allowed all-conquering Arsenal to win @ 17/10 unbacked, &, whisper it quietly, but Blackburn won again. The Blackburn fans will love Kean soon. They will. Fickle ftw.

Oh, & Ronaldo sulked for 90 minutes, before cheering up after his 151st goal in 150 games.

Singapore Grand Prix

F1’s only night race

One of the longest and toughest of the year for cars, drivers and strategists.

The race can last up to two hours and with high temperatures, humidity and constant braking and turning, it is a real marathon.

Pirelli is again bringing the soft and supersoft tyres. ie the tyres that last the least longest. Very important

As the track is at sea level, the air pressure is higher, the air is more dense and this means that the fuel consumption is higher. The stop and start nature of the track further adds to this. So the cars start heavier than at many places with around 155 kilos of fuel on board -10 kg more than the average. This adds to the punishment of the tyres in the early stages of the race.

McLaren has won the last three Grands Prix from pole position, making a total of five wins from 13 races for the team this season. Ferrari were strong in Monza, but that is a high downforce circuit so the carry-over to Singapore cannot be guaranteed. Red Bull has been struggling for qualifying pace lately.

Lotus were strong in Monaco, Hungary and Valencia, which is normally a good indicator for Singapore and were good on the supersofts on Montreal, as were Sauber, with Perez taking a podium. Perez also second last time out, again looking after those tyres and overtaking Ferraris at the end

The chance of a Safety Car at Singapore is very high. There has been at least one Safety Car at every Singapore GP so far with an average of 6 laps spent under Safety Car.

Sadly the safety car market appears priced in

http://www.oddschecker.com/motor-sport/formula-one/singapore-grand-prix/safety-car

We had Raikkonen at Spa, and he finished 3rd with Doobs saving the day as the new McLaren upgrade changed the available information post that bet

This weekend the conditions and track plus choice of tyres gives us opportunities to podium bet on either/or Renault or Sauber, the teams that once again will be performing best at the end when everyone else is grimly hanging on to tyre performance

The podium market throws up one outstanding and mispriced opportunity

http://www.oddschecker.com/motor-sport/formula-one/singapore-grand-prix/podium-finish

Sergio Perez at 8-1, Blue Squirrel (priced as low as 5-1 elsewhere)

£20 recommended

Tough track for tyres and Pirelli make that more intense by bringing the tyres with the shortest life.... Sauber looks after its tyres, and Perez is brilliant at it. He has raw pace too

Perez has 3 podiums this year, 65 points total.

Malaysia Grid 10th, finished 2nd
Canada Grid 15th, finished 3rd
Monza Grid 12th, finished 2nd

Note the places he makes up through tyre performance. Note the Singapore track's heavy use of tyres

8-1 is the wrong price

Sigh, wow, & sigh again.

Sigh because Fred is shite at F1.

Wow at that piece of analysis. (Personally, that 3/10 for a Safety Car looks the bet of the year to me).

Sigh because.....wait for it.....Blue Square restricted me to £10....!

So, we have £10 with Blue Square, Perez to Podium, Singapore Grand Prix.

I gather Rafa Benitez is Southampton bound...

Adkins 3-1 in the first to go market...fwiw

rafa 10-1 with stan james..............

Make that 5/4 now with the same firm....!

Some bugger reading Fred must have lumped £50 on @ 10/1.......

Top F1 analysis tighty managed to get on with the squirrel but only for £6.

It said that the max. was £60 until I logged in and the zero disappeared.

Just had a flick through the Saturday coupon and one price jumped out.

Where can you back an away team at over 2/1 which has the following form so far this season:  WWXWXWW against a team that lost its last home match 0-3?  The answer is in L1 where the bookies continue to underestimate league leaders Tranmere Rovers who racked up another 3-0 win last night.

I have healthy respect for Crawley, and indeed the 3-0 defeat to Pompey is misleading as they had two men sent off, but this price is simply wrong and is surely value.

Haven’t had a chance to look at the other games, but I’m not sure this price will last that long so might be worth getting on if others are in agreement.

Recommendation:  Tranmere to beat Crawley on Saturday at 5/2

Any thoughts on this?

Also, Chompy stuck up Wolves to thrash Posh this Saturday.

Agree, tip top piece of analysis. I shall lose my money happily.

Worse, though, Methuselah Minor was only allowed £6, whilst I was permitted a Tenner. Guess I rate higher on the Ice-Cream Scale-o-Meter.

Australia are almost as unpredictable as us in this T20 malarkey. They will either spank Ireland into oblivion (probably with a Watson/White slugfest) or fall apart and get done over by some old fashioned, spirited, green-shirted oomph.

Is there a market we can exploit to reflect this? Winning margin? Or just backing the Irish?

...and we can spend all day with jocular plurals, but it can only ever be Mendises, just as it's Smiths, Joneses and Williamses.

Mendes indeed!

OK, in case I'm perceived as being a grumpy socks, as the third person singular of the verb to be is "is" and the third person plural is "are", more than one Mendis must be Mendare

The cycling time trial is on the BBC red button & website as well as Eurosport. Starts 1.30. Main contenders get going about 2.30.

Doobs preferred Mendii, as I recall.

I like Mendis Mark 1, 2, or 3.
