I'm going to sound like a wimp but the thread has developed a bit of a nasty edge the last few days. I assume comments are aimed at all people who have ever posted a result in a match preview (and I certainly have).
I feel like I don't have the confidence to post any more (unless I have a Watford nugget) but will continue to read with interest. Good luck all!

hey honest truth mate you are high on my list of knowledgeable footy posters. Seriously, please don't be personally offended by anything I have said. I have a few darts thrown at Watford in some markets solely because what you saw was potentially something that the market hadn't( if they could just stop getting players sent off we will get a run for our money)
It's sometimes a good thing to throw a few stones to get the pool to ripple tho and I will be guilty of things that others see as a weakness too, in fact I know my NFL mindset has changed in the last few weeks after getting some good advice even tho I took it the wrong way at the time.
I'm still smarting from being called Bobbyjo by Neil C tho, I mean that thing was right big old slow plodder that took ages to get going, err maybe he has a point.

Today hasn't been totally wasted.
I just found out Buffy the Vampire Slayer is Brent's 17th favourite tv programme.

"Some Posters get their bets acepted blindly".
Correct.
If the Elders can be arsed to give us a steer, we ought to listen. Well I will, anyway, others can do as they feel.
Remember to start with the assumption that I decide which bets go on, or not, & that we must take the stance that my knowledge of all these Sports is nil. So I have to start somewhere.
Dubai was used as an example. Yes, I accept his bets "blind", EXCEPT when he urges me to bet above Maximum, which I generally refuse to do. Dubai has not worked since he packed in his job at Tesco's, he just sits at home all day, but somehow he gets by, mainly by punting & pokering. I buy his poker action, & I back his bets. We'd be mad to ignore it, that's the dream for most of us!
There are several others to whom this applies.
At the other end of the scale, there are guys (Tonji, Tal & ACE2M already mentioned as to bicycle racing ) who have taken us into Sports we have never followed, we've learnt a bunch, & had a lot of fun with them, at zero cost. Those lads (probably) know bugger all about "value", but they have a deep insight into certain sports, certainly enough to give us an edge now & then.
And then there are the hector's of this world. I bet his stuff blind, he makes us money, the bet sizes are sensible, & he gets us into obscure markets where there is, or may be, great value. On top of that, the adds fun to the thread with his little stories, his instant cake-mix, his 3G & Dr Noh stuff. Without that, it would not be the fun thread it is. I like a little fun in life, so that won't change.
Then there is singheee, who pops up from time to time. He may have just run good, but we did OK. Does he undersatand "value"? I doubt that, but he has a deep understanding of Baseball.
Tighty's cricket bets are incredibly insightful. Previously, he never used the value equations, he just stuck up thoroughly well-reasoned & researched bets. Now, as a result of Fred, he does the value maths first, & includes that in every recommend.
So yes, some punters get their bets blind. It will always be so, as long as they don't cost us money.
It's quite a tricky balancing act.
Let's also remember that we have not lost any money in 8 months, so a knee-jerk is not needed, but I do think a correction is, we, or I, have strayed a bit off-course the last few weeks, & this is a great reality check.

agree with camel on the aftertiming
"my mate backed it" "i laid it but didnt think to put it on thread" "they were to short really"
if for whatever reason you cant post BEFORE the event then i dont understand the need to post after it
whether it was you, the milkman or his brother who backed it

Fred has definitely gone off track & I feel as if I am slightly to blame, but not sure to why Ace (and others) wanted to get one over on me, just because I didn't agree with predictions/bet. It is very disappointing.
I am sure we will get back on topic and back to winning ways! Obviously Fred will make up for October, in November

Mate, you are one of the best punters in the thread & I follow some of your selections and I am not disappointed in them if they are losers, we all know the risks.
Hope you keep posting fwiw.

The aims of this thread as I see it:
1. Making money
2. Having a bit of banter
3. Learning stuff
4. Debating the merits of a particular bet
What isn't about:
1. Making selections which you think will win regardless of price.
2. Aftertiming
3. Bickering
I think in recent days/weeks the thread has moved from one camp towards the other.
Smack on.
The aftertiming & bickering only arose in the last week or so, I've no idea why, aftertiming has NEVER been encouraged or even allowed on here, suddenly it is all over the place. I blame Jason Herbert. (He made a one-word Post on Fred yesterday & it insta-kicked off! He's a natural).
We debate, we have different views, we have Post-Mortems, all these are encouraged.
Once a bet is accepted, that's it, there is no point or use for poking folks in the eye.

hahahaha it was brilliant, me and my Sister used to go to our Dads house at weekends when I was a kid and he would have it videoed for us every week from friday night on sky one. Saturday morning was a fantastic time in my week.

Now, has anyone tried the new banana opening technique?

The thread has a place for everyone and you are not to blame. In many ways having someone like yourself is good because it allows many of the key concepts to be explained which is good for everyone. What is important though is that it is done politiely and in good spirits. The sniping is a bit boring and unneccesary.
On another note I am likely stuck in the office for the next 24 hours plus as we are about to be hit by a hurricane so any punting opps will be warmly received......alternatively I will probably just end up posting loads to pass the time. On the plus side it appears to be me and 15 women under the age of 35 so every cloud...

And then on Sunday morning we went round the posher parts of Ascot with 2 buckets and sponges offering to wash people's cars to pay for what what we'd lost the morning before.

Cake mix be damned. I bought the 75% cocoa chocolate, the bananas are already ripened and I just have to toast the cardamom pods and I will be ready to bake. Did you know that most humans open bananas the wrong way? Someone looked at how monkeys open them and found that they open them from the end that is not attached to the bunch. Try it, you will find it so much easier.
I remember watching a documentary that included something about this, and they said that monkeys and primates usually open bananas not by either end, but instead they open it from the middle, puncturing the skin and peeling it lengthways to expose the flesh of the fruit. It's a quicker and more economical way of opening a banana apparently.

"Members/Subscribers Only" thread?
It would not work. A tells B, B then tells C, there is no point.
It also causes resentment amongst the wider Membership. We had more complaints about the Boldie tipping thing for that reason than almost anything else. It's a Forum, people feel resentment when they are excluded. I don't want that.
A "Members/Subscribers Only" thread away from blonde is fine, of course, anyone can do that, set it up & run it.
Going back to the aftertiming thing, whilst it is in my mind......a chap PM'd me yesterday, he has read the thread since Day One, & loves it. He said he had only just realised that in the Daily Summary, we NEVER name the authors of losing bets. (Chompy excepted, obv). This is simple common-sense, & psychology. Why would we deliberatelly embarsass folks? Nobody puts a bad bet up deliberately, & I don't deliberately back losers. It just happens, it's punting, it involves tasking risks.
