There is also the expectation that a great player will be a great manager rather than a good one and this skews opinion of them.  Take Hoddle for instance.  While this point might be argued, I regard him as a decent manager.  I spend a lot of time talking to the press pack at a few grounds and the general point of view from both the media and a decent section of the fans is he was a failure as a manger.  I really can't see that myself.  I had one hack once tell me that in his opinion Hoddle was as bad of a manager as he was as good of a player.

There are only so many pots to win in management and most of them are shared between a select few clubs on the basis of finance in that football club.

To go to Tighty's point about the effect of new managers, I see such a connection with teaching.  The long suffering teacher who has 'lost' his class finally gives in and asks to do a switch.  The new one comes in, knowing it's a bad class and instantly takes the strict route.  The class knowing this suddenly don't know where the boundaries are and don't know if they have the support of their peer group in mocking the teacher as his respect among the class is unknown at this point.  So everyone behaves and works hard until the first student 'breaks cover' or the teacher 'shows weakness' which may take some time.  I think it's pretty much the same in football clubs as a lot of professional footballers are just boys in the classroom at heart.

That peer pressure is an amazing thing, eh Tommy? Wink

I was listening to 606 at the weekend, and Villa fans seem optimistic with their man Lambert at the helm?  I know it is a small sample size of opinion, but they seem to be more upwardly mobile and buzzing than, say, Sunderland or Stoke who dare I say it are looking a bit stale.  I think the pair of them could easily be sucked into a scrap, especially if QPR/Reading pick up a bit of form.

Yes all doesn't seem well at City does it.  I'd imagine best to back Ajax than lay City as a draw is no good to the home side, so they'll be really leaving gaps at the end if it is still a draw with 10 mins left.

Tis true, tis true.

Back on point, I know that 7/1 for Ajax looks like some shiny treasure but I think it's actually too short.  Historically when good teams get themselves into the state Man City have in group stages like this and need a run of results, they generally get that first one.  I may well be proved wrong but I just can't see Ajax winning that game.

Final one (sorry, throwing a lot out there today)

Ajax 7-1 tonight at Man C.

Discuss.

I suggested, and backed, this yesterday morning but it got lost in the tennis betting palaver

Manchester City v Ajax

Ajax outplayed City in the game in Amsterdam and despite City taking an unlikely lead they ran out 3-1 winners. (small brag, I was driving home listening to the game and pulled over to back Ajax after City had scored  Smiley  )
City's CL record is poor at best and although their 3 wins have all come at home they are in a spot of bother at the moment with issues between manager and players and were lucky not to lose on Saturday.

Perhaps worth £20 at 15/2 at Paddy Power or similar on betfair ?

Bumped, see above Post by David.

I had not forgotten it David, I'm just struggling to keep up at the moment.

I think that if Ajax played City 8 times they would win at least once - however I just don't see it happening tonight. So that must make me an ice cream man, spotting a value bet but not backing it. There must be a footee bet tonight somewhere, look at all the games !

Gary Wiltshire tip No 2. Never bet on premiership matches. Look for the value in Scottish div 2 and 3, and the bottom 2 English leagues.

Just a reminder, B365 free in-play bet to same stake as pre-match wager on any of tonight's or tomorrow's Champions League games (max 50 notes). Mmm, cake...

I just choked on my afternoon chocolate digestive. I was reading the nit bets thread and found his highness Mr Tightend in it trying for a spin up. With his wonderfull well reasoned tips on here I thought he was a shrewdie, but it turns out he is an ice cream.

Typhoon13 has spent months trying to turn me to the dark side.

It would be his fault, except it is out of my comfort zone

I am an ice-cream stuck outside the freezer cabinet, looking in, on that thread.

Going back a little way in the thread as I'm just catching up.

In horse racing does the win always go by the horses nose?

I just wondered because in this photo a slightly different stride would've put that left paw far enough forward to get the win.
