I did try to warn you - if you are going to bet on saints apparently Saint Cajetan is the one you want on your side.

England knocked over the last three Indian wickets for 27 and knocked off 58 to go 1-1 in the series
So this sinks the 4-0 and 3-0 series win bets (admin/Mere Novice/Spreadsheet)
In this Match the two English spinners produced 125.2-29-329-19
The two Indian spinners 116.1-13-428-9
I'd say that was a comprehensive stuffing and one that very few people saw coming (with apologies to Geoff Boycott, Dubai and Doobs)
In his post match interivews Dhoni explained this by saying that Panesar bowls 10kph faster than his spinners and on a ragging surface the faster spin was much more difficult to play. He asked his spinners to bowl as fast, but they failed to get the same purchase from the pitch
With the series now moving to Kolkata, I think we can expect it to be played on a road, with India expecting not to give any help to Panesar and Swann and hoping Ojha's guile on a flat one comes to the fore
After two matches the thread has won a net £10 on this series (first test, less top batters less 4-0 and 3-0)
It has running Pujara at 7-1, with a 200 run lead over Sehwag. So all is not lost
It has 3-1 India at 14-1
It has Anderson, who will have to go some to overtake Panesar
It has Bell, who will have to go some to overtake Pietersen and Cook
So, Hector62, no pressure then.......
Didn't Swann bowl better than the Induan spinners too?
Given a flatter wicket and an England side showing better form in India than you expected, this looks like a draw to me. I could bump up the stats that show draws in India are relatively common. Am backing the draw at 7/4+, maybe shorter

Most of the bets placed so far seem more like hopeful punts rather than value spots

No pressure at all Mr Tightend. Simply lay Hadrain at 1-12 on Betfair, close out for a tidy profit and pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. Not sure that is too much fun though. The fixed odds people have Hadrain at 1-12 to 1-33.

Yup, we mistakenly laid our faith in the hands of the Jesuit Order. That's what sets that damn Billy Walters fella apart, he has contacts on both sides.

Swann did yes, it helps when there is huge pressure from the other end, which of course Panesar provided
I couldn't disagree with a draw. India have to prepare a flat one, I am sure of it
As to England showing better form...Cook has been sensational, KP was a sensational innings, Panesar had perfect conditions and Swann/Prior have been good
The other six? Not so, out of form or unsuitable conditions
Of course India have 3 or more batsmen out of nick too, so it evens out

After the reminder from Keith earlier, thought I would post this.
Been waiting for this mare to be stepped up to 3m for quite some time. The race that sticks in the mind was over 2.4 at Southwell with the race at her mercy, was chopped off two out. She then regrouped and made ground hand over fist to almost catch a very well thought of horse of Jonjo's, Its a Gimme. She then beat another well thought of horse at Leicester staying on strongly again, giving all the signs of being a thorough stayer. Last year didn't quite go according to plan, but still finished with a respectable 3rd to Simonsig at Aintree, before looking OTT at Punchestown. This year started at Wetherby over, to my mind a trip too short now, however she traveled like the winner for much of the race, but looked like she needed it, and one of today's opposition, Alasi beat her.
She has excellent form right handed 2/4 and operates well on the ground, and to me looks an excellent each way bet to nothing now she looks to step up in trip.
Recommend £10 ew Baby Shine 2.05 Kempton

There is, I think, one positive for Fred from that 2nd Test.
We were pretty committed to India, in many ways, & pre the Series starting, we were all over India, & this was reinforced by the result of the 1st Test, a comprehensive India win, although Dubs wisely saw it as a coin-flip, & Doobs, as ever, did his own shrewd thing & went with England at over 5/1 for the 2nd Test.
Fred was really really keen to get with India for the 2nd Test, & so nearly did - BUT, we learned the "value" lesson, & held off, the "value" was not right, thus saving ourselves a good few bob.
To me, this epitomises what us Ice-Creams have learned from Fred's Wisers & Elders - never mind recent form, or what you THINK the result is likely to be - if it is in the price, & the price is right, forget it.
And THAT, in turn, crosses over to so many "tips" which are put up on here, mostly, but not exclusively, football. It might look a good thing, but if it is in the price, we don't want to know.
Pre my 10 or 12 year punting sabbatical, I would have lumped on India at any price, because I thought they would win, totally ignoring the price, or "value".
Each time this happens now, as in the 2nd Test, I think of how much we have saved, or not lost, by learning this lesson.
It is undoubtedly the difference between a small profit & a big loss.

I like to leave greening out decisions to Mr T, it is almost more fun than giving a winning tip. I can tell that there is an overwhelming urge within him that so desperately wants to green out that gets counterbalanced by his fear of abuse from the scary elders.
I think the love of greening out is an age thing because I definitely have it as well. I think being brought up gambling when there was no possibility of doing it and having many bets that we would have just loved to do it has influenced us.
As regards the Mr Pujara bet it feels like there is no excitement left in it, almost as if we have had all winning fun out of it and all we have left is a potential huge amount of losing depression. For that mind I think we should consider it, enjoy the ditherage, and maybe have a small bet on him to top score in the next test for interest. Well that is my 2 pennyworth from Mr Cornetto.

Doobs
"However, Dhoni stood by his demand for exactly the kind of pitch this Test was played on. "I think this was a very good wicket," he said. "Tests in the subcontinent should be played on such wickets. The toss wasn't that vital. It started turning from the first day."
Dhoni insisted he would love to get such pitches more often, regardless of the result here. "Of course I will want a similar wicket," he said. "That's what our speciality is. What's the point of playing on a flat track and winning the toss and batting for three or four days over the Test? You want to face challenges in test cricket. These are the kinds of wickets that push you. Definitely all the wickets should be like this."
However, Dhoni's reasoning for such pitches calls for a much better show from the players in Kolkata. "The best thing about these conditions is, no side is guaranteed a win," Dhoni said. "You have to play well to win." If India do get another turner, they will "have to play well to win." "

We need a pitch correspondent to inspect the wicket, as it does feel key here. I wouldn't want to back the draw if they played on a wicket like the last one.

Precisely, at the current time any "match bets" on Kolkota are almost blind.
tikay, we should take the profit on Pujara I think....
