Quiz question back for tikay

A station that served the Baseball ground, "Ramsline Halt" or the Baseball ground halt (which was the end of a piece of track that ran to an area of ground behind the home end) holds a record for a British station

What record is that?

Only 4 trains ever stopped there in it's entire (short) history. For which I acknowledge Wiki, as I never knew that.

What I do know is that it is still there, to this day, (or was last time I used that line, the old East Midlands Trains) & the trains trundle past it.

I'll shut up, too. Wink

Can't get 2, 3, 6, 8.

Alan Hinton I believe was famous for his white boots.

The first & only (at the time) player to wear white boots.

Now they wear all bloody daft colours.

and in 1992 or 3 I arrived at the ground on one of the 4 trains ever to stop there. We won 2-1, and Peter Shilton was in goal for Derby.

Which was not the answer!

As you can see from your old picture, the tall stand in which the away fans were housed was most unusual, a triple decker with a roof built at an angle to the pitch.

Result of the Stewards Inquiry

MereJudge has ruled......

A Dead-Heat. The bet is jointly owned by Tighty & Doobs, & the Spready results amended accordingly.

A further ruling was also made.

I have been advised that it was my sundry clicking that accidentally exposed the Tipster ROI Column this morning to the wider world. Instructions as to how to use Excel (Advanced version) have now been received. I am now an expert in Excel AND Paint.

It's not "Excel". That would be like calling all vacuum cleaners "Hoovers" or ...

Does anyone else really miss the old grounds - seemed to have so much more character and unique in their own way.  I'm sure they were health and safety nightmares, but I fondly remember trips to the Manor Ground, Elm Park, Filbert Street, The Dell, The Baseball Ground, Fellows Park and Roker Park.

Whenever I go away now (rarely) or watch on TV all the grounds seem the same to me.  I feel like the same bloke built Pride Park, The Walkers Stadium, The Cardiff City stadium as well as every Polish venue for Euro 2012 Sad

Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but I kind of like Watford still having a dilapidated stand on one side which people can't go in because it is 90% likely to catch fire for some random reason during the 90 minutes.  I really hope West Ham and Liverpool don't push ahead with their attempts to leave Upton Park and Anfield.

Some of the stands in those photos are amazing.  I love the Southampton one that has seating going up like a triangle Smiley  Space efficient they are not, but each ground bursts with individuality.  A different era.

Mr T. I am going to suggest we invest some Pujara pounds on the forthcoming T20 series against India, it starts on the 20th and is only 2 games. I want to back England to have the most 6's but I can only find a price for the 1st game. If anyone has a site that is pricing up the 6's market over the 2 games could they point it out please.

A few spurs fans are wondering what will happen when we get the new stadium. WHL has been our home for so long and, although we are only moving up the road, it will be somewhere else.

Good news is we will have no trouble filling it, so the Bolton/Wigan problem won't be there.

(don't get me started)

A lot of the new mid 90s grounds (Walkers, Pride Park, Riverside, St Marys) were designed by the same artchitect and built by Birse/McAlpine to a common template.

Cost and speed of construction, the key reasons

I love all the old grounds, researching the history of stands, compiling photo collections

I've kept it pretty well hidden that its a passion of mine, I know, but I'm out now

The grounds we have these days can NEVER replace the old ones.  I realise that the older you get nothing will replace the experiences of your youth but I just dont see how it can ever be as exciting (and on occasions frightening) for the kids of today to get themselves on the train and travel to the Walker Stadium, the New Den, The Riverside, Stadium of Light and Reebok as it was for me to go to Filbert Street, The Den, Ayresome Park, Roker park and Burnden Park.  It has always been an ambition of mine to get to all 92 league grounds but now I have lost the passion for it I once had.  I missed a couple of opportunities to go to the old Baseball Ground and really regretted it but I cant get any enthusiasm up to go to Pride Park because I have been to all the others that look exactly the same.  Even the old grounds aren't what they used to be.  For a number of years I used to go to Ewood every year to watch the Boro and for evening games especially in the cold it just was a wonderful ground to go to.  When I started going again recently to watch my nephew it had lost almost all of that atmosphere.  Maybe it is just our changing society but I cant help thinking I preferred decaying terraces, bovril and maybe even the slight menace and hint of violence at some grounds.  I grew up on the terraces and I can't imagine any kids or teenagers these days saying they grew up and learnt a lot about themselves at the Reebok or even in the Kop or Streford Ends of today.

Anyway enough nostalgia but always a good opportunity to wheel out one of the best youtubes ever:

Can't find anything yet, hector, but maybe they will get some more markets up tomorrow if those Pujara £££'s are burning a hole in our pocket.

Incidentally, only B-B-B "cricket" could call 2 matches a "series". Tsk.

Talking of things which lack class - & this, obviously includes Australians - did you know that there is a whole B-B-B League in Aussie called "Big Bash"?

It gets worse. It is sponsored by Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I mean, really. If that ever arrives in Lords, we will surely know that civilisation has ended.

Best regards,

Disgusted

Tunbridge Wels.
