I think the first is a London club, maybe Leyton Orient? Pure guess.

The last is Roker Park. In that picture it looks like a proper football stadium eh?

The first is not a London club, no.

The last? Yup, nailed it, the wonderful Roker Park. Just looking at that packed open end sends shivers down my spine. It was chosen as a World Cup ground for '66, & they roofed it over I think.

The Roker Roar, ooohhhh

In the last picture is that the Spion Kop in the back left?

Morning MM.

If you are referring to Anfield, no.

In my world, "The Kop" is always Anfield, but I thought I'd better check before replying, & it turns out there are loads of "Spion Kops" in UK football grounds, 13 at least, plus a dozen more "Kops".

See "Kops" listed here.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spion_Kop_(stadia)

Anyway, the ground in question - VERY famous & iconic  - I'd be astonished if you have never been there. Every geriatric football fan must have been there in their time.

I didn't realise there were numerous "Spion Kop"s.

I was referring to the one at Owlerton from which I once viewed an entire match sitting on my dad's shoulders c1958.

He´s basically just a classic mug, he thinks the outsider is always value (wrongly) and that the favourite is most likely to win (usually rightly).

Me neither, amazing what we can learn from a punting thread.

I never knew there was one at Owlerton, either.

You sat on your Dad's shoulders in 1958? You'd have been, what, then, 20?

I can see why Karabiner was confused, at first glance the kop at Roker Park looks similar to Wednesday's kop until it was roofed.

I always think kop's look better before they were roofed but Wednesday's when roofed and extended held 25,000 (before seating obviously) and looked wonderful.

New Spurs stadium will have a Kop, at least according to the most recent design I saw.

We've not had one before, to the best of my knowledge.

Probably miles off but is the second picture Norwich's old ground? And the third Villa Park?

Two for the price of one, very good.

The second was the old Norwich City ground, built, I believe, in a quarry, and the other one is indeed Villa Park.

The Nest (canaries get it?).

Fascinating ground one corner of the pitch was actually falling into the quarry. It was condemned in the mid 30's, so must have been quite a treachourous place given health and safety was hardly what it is today.

Carrow Road was built in the off season in 12 weeks on the grounds of the Colmans mustard factory.

Morning Mr T.

I am going to write something I never thought I would. Yesterday Aaron wrote a recommendation and I think you should give it the utmost consideration. It was for a lower division football match and he was advocating the outsider of the 2, something that is very dear to my heart.

As we all know Aaron is in profit on Fred, something he proudly pointed out to us, and that is not easy to do. A few months ago I would see a post from him saying that a 4-6 shot was a great bet. He would get castigated by the masses and a couple of days later be back proposing a different team but at the same kind of price. Well maybe he has learned from Fred and I think you should give him a fair crack.

My areas of expertise do not include lower division football so I cannot say if this is a good bet. But as the legendary 3G said during the Ryder Cup, " Sometimes you just have to go with what is in your pants ". And frankly Mr T, Aaron is what is in your pants.

Ha!

Very good Post hector, good timing, too, as today Aaron has been announced as an "Advent Calendar" chap. I want the Advent thing to finish before I comment on the various nominess, so as not to spoil "the moment" so I will leave it at that for now, but I will comment once the Advent thing has concluded.

The bet Aaron proposed earlier this week - yes, I liked it, & he was very sensible with the stakes too, think he just said £20, or similar, so we will probably get on.

I also agree, he has learned a great deal here, (half the idea, surely?) & it shows in his recommendations.

He gets roundly mocked by many, but yes, he has made a very good profit & ROI on Fred, more than most, though for balance he has only had 4 selections accepted, so our old friend "sample size" rears it's head.

I shall be getting on shortly.

I hope you are well, & enjoyed a celebratory cake, coffee, & dance yesterday after the Sixes bet got home.

PS - I trust you have seen the PM I sent you earlier this morning.

Read this yesterday, but been so busy, that I got to reply.

I think I have improved with my bets & thankfully that is not because of me, but mostly because of you guys. A big thanks to the regulars in this thread.

Talking about the advent calendar? Has Doobs got a bigger profit than me? If not GTFO! Smiley Smiley

Regarding the Dynaste punt, is it intended to "green out"?

I honestly don't know, hence my question to the bet owner, BigAdz, this morning.

Guess we should be guided by him really. In fact, we will be, it will be his shout.

Quite something to have 380/1 about a 25/1 shot though, and hopefully we shall have some fun following this.

You can back it at 200/1 on betfair right now and lay off at 400/1, so I wouldn't go spending that profit yet.

The two bookies offering the 25/1 are erring on the conservative side.

I would be happier with the 50/1 Big Buck's that Horsetrader(?) was talking about.  There has been a few "out for the seasons" come back recently.  Unfortunately it has gone already amd best price on betfair is 33/1.  I am no vet, so don't be reading this as gospel on Big Buck's condition.

Hi Aaron,

Doobs has more profit than anyone, but don't confuse that with Advent Calendar selections, they are not even remotely connected.

Lol @ "The Nest", very good.

Love all this trivia stuff, Tighty will be mad he missed it.

Incred they built Carrow Road in 12 weeks.

So, we now have 4 of the 5 Mystery Stadiums, just the first one remains unsolved.
